look at the blue line in the end. is that a volcanic tremor???

[edit on 7-6-2010 by Austria]

NO it is not. if a hamonic tremor does accur at the park then all of the stations would be picking it up .

whoo wooo , YS has a new webcam heres the link....

No. YMR is and always has been a noisy station. If you don't see anything at all at YMC it's just surface noise. As other people have said, if you don't see it on any other station it's not significant. When you see lines jumbled up so far apart like that and disorganized it is almost always noise. Seismic activity doesn't look like that.

Yes, but a shock that lasts as long as is very uncommon to you? Maybe something happened with the magma in the chamber.

Oh, a tremor in the whole park would be felt, as I could just forget?

What quakewatcher says is absolutely right.

One thing you should always do is look down at the bottom left of the chart to see what the microvolt setting is.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/173ba1d8aec6.png[/atsimg]

125 mV is a very sensitive setting and this recorder will show everything including bison farts.

Some of the recorders are set as high as 1600 or more. I have seen one at 3000 at one time.

So most of the park is looking VERY noisy right now. Just wind? Looks like a very strong signal on some stations to be wind....but I have been wrong a time or two (or three
) before!!

Weather report sounds like wind:

Tonight:
Breezy. Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain showers and isolated thunderstorms in the evening...then chance of rain showers after midnight. Lows 36 to 42. Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts to around 40 mph until early morning. Chance of precipitation 40 percent.

(Says it's calm at the moment but I've noticed the automated current conditions for that location are often old.)

There had been some discussion previously about the connection between solar storms and earthquake activity. Well, I came across this today.

news.yahoo.com...-container

I wonder if we will see increased seismic activity as a result of these solar storms.

I wonder if this will shake things up some - rather shallow and weak but we shall see

Wakey wakey, we got shakey. Mini swarm developing under or around the lakey.

And wouldn't you know it, it's a New Moon. And we're only nine days away from the summer solstice. What a wobbly planet we live on. We're spinning around and around like on the tea cup ride at an amusement park. The magma sloshing around in our stomaches as if we've had too much cotton candy and soda pop.

Are these all under 1.0?

I am seeing only three on the downloads I get back on the 5th and 6th.

Whadya know! Must be lucky! :-)

Me glads we are boys and girls, too!

Thought I would just drop a line and say hello to the YS crew!
Had a bad appendix taken out recently and missed ATS, but still lurk around!
Thanks for the thread ATS!
And thanks for everyones contributions!

I'm assuming they are very small, 1 or under. There will be no posting of quakes because it's the weekend. In the end it may be a tiny flurry, but for now it's on going.

Glad to see that you've lived to see another day dodadoom. Every surgery can be potentially deadly.

Thank you Robin!!!
Indeed, a former student of my mother's beauty school went in for shoulder surgery last weekend also, and she died of a blood clot that day!!!

It was abcessed and indeed could have killed me I guess.
I guess you just never know!
Glad to be on this side of the dirt anyway!
Thanks again! :-)

Thanks for letting us know, Robin.

There's good viewing at YLA
quake.utah.edu...

and YLT
quake.utah.edu...

as well as the ever-buggy LKWY:
quake.utah.edu...

My guess is the baby swarm is located somewhere between YLA and YLT, a little closer to YLT ("Little West Thumb") maybe a little bit West of the lake swarm in this graphic:

volcanoes.usgs.gov...

(or maybe right at it, and it's just a difference in the equipment making them look stronger at YLT.)

At any rate, it's definitely in the lake!

LKWY looks fine to me on the SHZ channel. Try this one for buggy.LKWY.US.00.BHZ.2010.163

The large green disturbance (blue in the GIF below) with distinct P and S is the Nicobar 7.5

I think B944 had a headache yesterday as it seems to be on a different planet B944.PB..EHZ.2010.163 but 208 looks OK B208.PB..EHZ.2010.163

Putting the 4 together you get this

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/c5b3dfc32984.gif[/atsimg]

I would agree with your prognosis. It does seem to be closer to YLT and pretty much equidistant from the others.

Curious that the 7.5 does not show on B944, or maybe not in view of it's bad head.

As always, Robin was correct. Good to 'see' you Robin! Also Dododoom, nice to see you guys again. It does indeed have the *feel* of another swarm, I guess time will tell how big.

One point of interest is that it's under the lake...

Hey guys....what the HECK is this? Now, I know that it is at lakeway and we all know how unreliable that station is.....but this looks like some local quakes followed by...something. What do you think? Ice breaking up?

I don't see anything at YLT or YLA, so either it's a glitch, it's a surface level noise or event near the station, or it's extremely local. I tend to think it's something on the surface. Motorboat?

The scale on that is 500 microvolts, while YLT and YLA are set much higher.

Nothing on LHZ LKWY.US.00.LHZ.2010.165 but it shows almost identical on BHZ LKWY.US.00.BHZ.2010.165

Nothing unusual at Grant Village H17A.TA..BHZ.2010.165 but I note that the plot gets noisier around the same time, and the same goes for B944 B944.PB..EHZ.2010.165

Edit: Just took a look at the EHZ channels for YLA and YLT
YLA.WY..EHZ.2010.165
YLT.WY..EHZ.2010.165
Very strange!
