It kinds of makes you want to call in anonymous tips on cops houses, doesn't it? Only internal pressure will get the police forces to realize that they are civilians, and subject to the same laws that everyone else is subject to.

You take care of your Florida trash and we'll deal with ours

LOL...I am surprised the guy wrote you back at all! He is kind of funny really. Has personality. His comments could be interpreted as calling the cops in question "trash", keep that in mind.

The only time I have ever sent an angry email to the police was when Tennessee police pulled over a family car in error and shot the dog. The news played the audio of the incident, the family kept saying calmly "the dog is just a puppy, not dangerous...he won't hurt you" as they were handcuffed on the pavement. I was furious!

Never got a response, but the the Govenor of Tennessee ended up calling a press conference, where he posed with his dog, and apologized for the incident. I guess I was not the only person that sent angry complaints over that incident.

It is the nature of our social system in the US that we have given a few the power to rule over the many and they of course as human nature dictates abuse that power. We should make all law enforcement citizen operated and police ourselves as we did in the past but the citizens of this nation have become lazy and complacent chattel who desire to have others handle such things for us while we watch our favorite TV shows and video games or just get some sleep so we are ready to go to our machine jobs the next day.

We used to have a night watch of citizens and they answered to the block captains who were the respected elders or appointed by the community.

Now we have professional police forces enforcing a government agenda for control of the population and not citizens involved in their community policing themselves and this is the result.

Those given undue power over others will always abuse that power. Since the earliest civilizations it has been that way and we just never learn and we let the same creep of erosion of our freedom happen again and again.

I like to walk my neighborhood or ride my bike at night. I carry a scanner and listen to what is going on. The people in my area know me and know that I do this and so do the local police. It is rare in my neighborhood for someone to vandalize or sell drugs on the corner but right across the main road in the next neighborhood it happens quite often. It is simply that those who are looking for a place to commit crime need the cover of a lack of awareness of the people in that area in order to operate safely. I take that away with my actions and it has an effect. I guess I am a one man neighborhood watch in this case.

That is what it takes but people will not give of their time to achieve this and this is the result. I guess I am a Utopian dreamer but I think this is the way it should be.

1) Even if they really thought a 12yr old was a prostitue why cover her mouth?

Because prostitutes usually have multiple sexually transmitted diseases (STD's), and females are known to spit on people when they get angry, believe it or not. Makes it harder to bite someone too.

That's a good question. The only answer that comes to mind is that the police force is hiring a bunch of scared little boys who treat every suspect like a serial killer.

Or, she probably resisted arrest.

To "beat" someone is a very vague explanation, probably even an exaggeration. She is probably a very fragile girl, who gets hurt easily.

Cops raping women on the streets?
when did this happen?

Some years back, a Florida Highway Patrolman pulled over a woman on the interstate -- then he raped her and strangled her with her panty hose.

Not really. What I'd like to see is a public posting of the names and addresses of the cops that were involved in this crime.

Back when I was a policeman, people respected and trusted us. There was a reason for that! Mainly due to the fact that we DIDN'T pull stunts like this! Back in the 80's and 90's arresting children was virtually unheard of. The closet I have ever come to arresting a kid was dropping a couple of intoxicated teens off in front of their houses. Even then, they weren't legally "under arrest."

Too many police officers are on an ego trip these days. You're there to do a job, not to try and make the news every day. The "shoot first - ask questions later" method that these officers appeared to have used is not what police work is all about. I truly hope that you do not see all law enforcement officers in a negative light as a result of this incident.

Sure we'd come across girls working the streets a lot, but generally as long as no one called in a complaint we didn't really mess with them.

Towards the end of my law enforcement career we really started getting a lot of those brand new gun-ho type officers. Back in 98 we stopped a car with three occupants. Driver agreed to let us search the vehicle, and admitted that he had a dime sized bag of marijuana. Needless to say the new guy was very upset with me when I didn't arrest the guy for possession.

My point is that a lot of the less experienced guys these days are too eager to kick down doors and aim guns at people.

In this case we have a twelve year old girls. Granted, the girl and her father should have explained things instead of physically resisting. Then again, if three men that came out of a blue van tried to abduct my daughter I would have probably done a little more than "resist" them. Hint: I carry a S&W 40.

I think it's better not to do it.

First, this is an oldish case.

Second, if the e-mail is for the webmaster, he may not even represent the police, so I think the case should not be discussed with him.

But I think that the way things are going in the US, it starts looking more and more like it was here in Portugal when we were under a dictatorship, and people went to the police so they could get a job where they could be immune to any problems with neighbours and acquaintances.

I don't know what can be done to prevent this turning even worse, but I know that something must be done, if it's not then someone will take the power and will use it if they see that things have reached a point where the police (this type of police, not the honest ones) can be used to do what they want.

Well, this is her at 17, so I can imagine that at 12 she would still have been fairly athletic.

Dymond's Photos

Is it really that hard for kids to speak English? Far out, what a shocker....

Exactly. You mean to tell me that a grown man can't just bear hug a 12 year old and carry her away into a van. or that 2 or 3 can't and they have to punch her !!?????

What kind of nerdy wimps are we putting in the force? O yea we aren't they are just abusive people who know they won't get punished.

I hope somebody injures them so bad that they wished they were dead.

News like this one flags me that our country could be headed to martial law, (if not already), where no citizen will have the right to fight back whatsoever. The trend could be made worse if America turns from an already Socialist nation to a more Communist one.

I have lived in Houston most of my life. I have not kept up with this story but I did read about it some time ago. What I can say, without hesitation, is that the reporting publication is the most unreliable fishwrap I have ever read. It is worse than any other publication I have had a chance to examine. The staff is composed of mostly unexperienced, sensation seekers and I question it's accuracy. Of course, I hope the little girl is doing well if these events did, in fact, happen.

I offer this opinion to provide a little local insight into the story.

Please CONSIDER THE SOURCE !

Cheers from the "THIRD COAST"

Merry Christmas

mark my words, if these kind of things keep happening and growing in frequency the police will soon start dying

in large numbers
riots WILL take place

and if you think we have tough economic times now, just wait to see what happens when "we the people" get sick of all the b.s. and fight back

rodney king sparked a firestorm of hell in many places

and he wasnt a 12 year old girl

very soon the police are going to screw the wrong person, and by doing so are signing the death certificates of MANY other fellow members of law enforcement

right now i honestly cant think of anyone i know who has respect for cops, and that even goes for cops and 911 operators

when they dont have respect all they have is power and money, and thats fine and dandy for a while, but history shows without the respect, the money and power will be taken away

Happens here in Pennsylvania more than we wish to think about, a cop just got sentenced for raping a mentally challenged girl in Marysville,PA last month. And a cop in York,PA was arrested for driving to Maryland and handcuffing a lady and raping her in his vehicle. So yeah here in PA it happens alot. That's just two of the many that happened this year.

Someone with a brain. Imagine THAT on ATS!!!??? Yeah. Like he said, one news outlet does not the truth make. Quit being sheep and all dog piling on the Galveston PD. I'm sure they have their hands full since the hurricane. As for the "E-Mails" to the Galveston PD. Notice that they both have the same reply? Try using your heads for something other than hat racks.

It is a well know local fact that folks from Louisiana do not like Texans. It is no surprise a person from your state seems to have no concern for a 12 year old Texan girl.

As for the hurricane, Yes we are doing fine accept for the police officers beating up little girls.

Thats just sad, you can't just go around labeling people as prostitutes without even watching them solicit funds... they really ought to do their homework before they barge in, end up looking like a bunch of fools...
