A crumbling economy, more than 2 million constituents who have lost their jobs this year, and congressional demands of CEOs to work for free did not convince lawmakers to freeze their own pay.

Instead, they will get a $4,700 pay increase, amounting to an additional $2.5 million that taxpayers will spend on congressional salaries, and watchdog groups are not happy about it.

If it was up to me, this do-nothing (except give our money away) Congress would all be fired, some of them jailed.

“As lawmakers make a big show of forcing auto executives to accept just $1 a year in salary, they are quietly raiding the vault for their own personal gain,” said Daniel O’Connell, chairman of The Senior Citizens League (TSCL), a non-partisan group.

We the Congress are entitled to and merit raises whenever we so desire. We work hard to empty the pockets of hardworking Americans and to transfer that money into the pockets of corrupt politicians and businessmen. You the people have no say so in the process. We have limited you to the right of complaining and nagging. And given the time and with the help of our beloved Patriot act we passed with such honor, that right to will be slowly stripped of you as well. We own you period.

how very forward thinking of them to make thier pay raises automatic so they dont have to spend so much time voting on it each year, so they can focus on the more important things like bailing out their rich cronies and stripping more of our rights away.

It's maddening isn't it? These bozos are out there encouraging everyone to spend less, sacrifice more, take less and give more, and here they are taking more of our hard earned money to increase their salaries!

And for what? What have they done to deserve this?

As I said, if anything, most of them probably need to be thrown in jail, at the very least removed from office.

How many people are homeless right now, it shows who's interest they really have at heart.

if anything i hope this shows people that, "left wing" or "right wing" is both part of the same filthy bird taking a huge dump on the people.

i don't have the tables in front of me... but congress is entitled to the regular COLA (cost-of-living-adjustment)
now, is the OP statement, that all members of the House & Senate get an increase of $4,700.--- does that ammount equal the 5.6% COLA for 2008?

If it's more than the allowable COLA then the money can then be seen as an unwarrented raise...
otherwise... the complaints are falling on my deaf ears.... as i will tune you out.

Funny, I didn't get any cost of living adjustment this year.

They have gone way above arrogance now. They don't even care what we think about them anymore. What a slap in our faces.

This hurts! Insult to injury comes to mind. But then again, when the economy was falling to pieces and they needed to help out does anyone remember what they did? ................Went on vacation.

I need a new job. Vote JKd Up for Congress! I guarantee I'll do nothing and not care about the regular citizens... But at least I'm HONEST about it!

1. Congresspersons, Senators and the President should all make the average American salary of the previous year.

2. Each State should be responsible for their own representative's travel costs and residency.

3. Every member of the above should be required to do their own taxes and must be audited every year.

4. Each member of the above should be on Medicare and pay for their own health insurance above and beyond that.

How can anyone expect them to deal with average American issues when they grant themselves a standard of living so high above the burdens of the average American?

Despite their claims to be better and more ethical than Republicans they are even worse than the right. Well see just how their brain dead zombie voters are going to deflect this and justify their actions.

I sort of agree with you but it was liberals that were screaming the loudest about Republican corruption and "do-nothing-ness". Libs were voted into power on the promise of "change" and an end to bull*#%$ like this. It just goes to prove that they really are no better than the right but are in fact even worse. I saw right through all of their lies, deflection, and deceit right from the beginning.

Just imagine what one group can get away with when they have convinced the majority of the country that it is the other side causing all of the problems.
