the fact is no parent likes any outsider to tell their child that what therir parent said is a lie.

its the parents right to bring a child up how they deam fit, as long as the child is happy and cared for proberly.
if the parent wishes to have santa in their house then no teacher of other figure should tell the child the opersite.

its almost like bringing your child up with a certain religion or beliefs and someone telling the child what they believe in is wrong.

also that teacher isnt a very professional or good one if they can not control the children, because the situation obviously got out of control and the teacher could not bring order to the class, so they should not be teaching.
unfortuantly controling and bringing order to the class is part of the job

Their feelings will hurt only if they are being taught to feel sorry for themselves. And your concern for them is just that: you want them to feel like that. You insist that this is how they should feel, and you insist that this is how they must feel whenever the truth hits them. You don't even allow the possibility that they won't feel like that.

You better reconsider such attitude.

Your posts are very insightful. I wonder how many times I've anticipated my child's response. I can recall a few occassions where I was VERY surprised. The results were often more mature than many adults (myself included) I know.

You really gotta laugh at this... I mean, all funny stuff aside. If we boil this down to simple truths this is halarious...

The parents are upset at the teacher... For tellign them the TRUTH.

How could you really be upset in a situation like this? "Sorry son/daughter... I wanted to lie to you for another 10 years."

come on for crying out loud, when dealing with 7 year olds it isnt just a simple matter of the truth- what next, shall he show them a video of someone dying from the final stages of lung cancer to enlighten them about the truth surrounding death

From what I've read (not really sure) but knowledge of death is a passage right to youth in older Gremany. It's alright to know about death. I think that the United States is hindered by the fact they fear death. But this is another subject for another thread...

Here's what I see... If the teacher said Santa was real, the non religious would jump and yell... Cos the teacher said what they did... Well, 23 pages of ATS travel... I think one of the hardest things is that teachers cannot say anythng anymore. Do I think it was right to do... I'm not sure. But should the teacher have lied just to keep Christian people happy?

Santa is nothing more than the basis for recent economics. His image is darn near owned by Coke... He doesn't stand for giving anymore. Ever see him with a samll bag of gifts?

They're 'traditionalists', not really defined by any religion. To me, a Christian who perpetuates the lie disturbs me a whole lot more than someone who is a non-believer. They should know better:

"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." - John 8:32

The whole book of Proverbs is about giving wise and correct instruction to your childen. A believer shouldn't be doing things for the mere sake of tradition, but rather under evaluation towards purpose first then making a conscious decision.

If a person has to moral grounding as to whether or not it's a good idea to adhere to truth, well, that's their right to choose.

yeah, in the interests of "truth" watch their little eyes light up with the joy of knowledge as they witness the video of someone with lung cancer vomiting blood.....

struggling to see your logic there, the Christians arent the big santa promotoers, that is the secularists, either way it is an embedded tradition in our western culture, and at best he should probably have said squat either way

Intellectualise it all you want but you dont piss on the Christmas parade of a bunch of 7 year olds

Alright... If someone with lung cancer coughs p blood, and they do, then the kids might not smoke...

If the kids saw what happes when they run out to get a ball in the street, they may not...

I've run too many rescue (ambulance) calls to not see action/reaction.

It's not about "lighting up" their eyes... Strip the glistening vaneer off the world. It's not that great.

My father told me once to not touch a woodstove when it was hot... I did... it was the last time I did so. But I also earned the respect of my father for telling me the truth.

As far as my logic... hell, I don't get it some time
No, what I mean is that the teacher was done when the topic was brought up for discussion in the class. At that point, the teacher had the opprotunity to be blamed...

or alternatively they could be psychologically disturbed and end up doing something rather insane

What a brutal school you would run, here kiddies, this is a kid which has been decapitated after running onto the street, yes, that is his squished head and that is his body, no issues there you are all coping with this brutal death sequence admirably- where does your brutal little destroyer of childhoods end? Are you going to show them porN

I would suggest not doing any of the above, as anyone trying to do this to my kid would possibly receive a terrible beating

Telling your kids that Santa & the Easter Bunny are real is lieing to them, and I look at it as a breach of trust. Why can't they just have it as a game of make believe? Kids can get pretty exicted over make believe stuff.

I felt really let down when I discovered the scam, and this was why I decided that I would not lie to my kids.

Good call. When I told my child about all the common myths, my daughter asked, "Can we at least pretend the toothfairy exists?" when she lost a tooth. I said "sure" and so we continued the routine. One time I forgot, she comes up to me the next day and said, "*psst* Hey, you forgot to do the tooth fairy thing last night". We had a good laugh and fixed it the next night. She didn't feel 'let down' or unloved by anyone, mythological fairy included.

I don't look at Santa Claus as a lie at all. I see nothing wrong with letting children believe in something magical, especially in a world where there is very little left to believe in.

Besides that parents should beable to decide ,in this type of traditions, what they'r childrens must belive or not!

Funny how so many people supports the teacher's actitude, but then we see this some people in other places saying that Chrismas is not what it used to be, and it's just a "comercial event"....weird indeed!
Not surprise at all!

I trust you let them make up their own mind about which religion to follow as well?
