I'm also right outside Oak Ridge, and Y-12, etc. But do you really think they would bother to try a strike here? It's pretty far inland for an aerial strike, and the probability of disrupting things at the facilities is minimal.

A family friend worked at the a couple of the letter-number facilities doing clean up of closed sections, and she said many of the levels are DEEP underground, and built into the hills. I think they could probably conitnue doing whatever it is they're doing regardless of a surface level detonation.

I just don't see the point of a strike here. It's not a major population area, and the chances of actually striking any of the research facilities is very small.

I'm hours from any viable target. Unless the wind carries a lot of crap here or whoever fires their missile misses by a couple hundred miles I'm pretty safe.

There isnt anything here anybody wants, needs, hates or is particularly interested in. That's one of the reasons I moved here.

I dont know if Reykjavík is still on the list but during the cold war the Russians had one nuke reserved for us. Today, however, the US army base is closed, there is no cold war, we have no army and we rank number 1 as the worlds most peaceful nations.

But we are still in NATO for some obscure reasons
and I wonder if the Russians ever reset those cold war targets.

Is there a official target list accessible on the web somewhere?

i am close to two but i also am 15 min from my fallout shelter.

i have a old gold mine that i lined up as a shelter 30 years ago. and if things start looking bad i will make a trip there to do a last minute stocking of extra supplies.

plus i will check in with the rest of the mine rescue team to see if they are ready.

by the way the maps on www.ki4u.com...
are way out of date.
some of the military targets are no longer military and some sites are not even on the list like area 51 the runways there will carry heavy bomber. and it is a secure site.
there are many airfields now that will take bomber that are not listed because they are newer then these maps.

it also may be missleading in that there are two types of target
military and infrastructure.

depending on many scenarios most of the attacks may be on military only target.
or they could leave out the military target if they feel that they would be too late in hitting then and our missiles and planes are already on there way.

Little known fact for the people in US. During the cold war Russia had a nuke targeted at every city with population of over 10,000 people, I don't think anyone was outside the strike zone then

I live smack dab in the middle of Baltimore,MD a major hit target because it is a major shipping port and Washington DC well you know why. I am pretty much screwed for chances of survival.

I am pretty close to DC, how is that for a target?

In fact I call it the world's biggest bullseye.

My husband and I have even tried to figure out how long till nuclear fallout and could we get away in time and how far would we have to drive and where would we go?

Basically in the event of a nuclear hit, we would have to leave that second.I mean if we are in the shower we wouldn't have time to put clothes on, and head north.

Howdy neighbor!

Actually I am in the big megaopolis myself.

(baltimore, dc and annapolis)
Annapolis isn't a big target except for the navel school. Unless someone has something against antique furniture.

I live a dozn kilometers away from the largest radar base in continental Europe, the Cinq-Mars-La-Pile radar base, which is actually a huge grassy plain . yep, everything is underground. The French air authorities control everything from there and have absolute surveillance over everything flying 500km or something around the country.

If I'm not killed by the shockwave, I'll be lucky enough to be in the front seat for the mushroom

I wonder how far from the target you would have to be to survive the initial blast/shockwave and see the mushroom?

I guess it would depend on if it was an air blast or surface blast and what size bomb it was.

Silicon Valley U.S.A.. Most of the high tech companies in the world are based here, including NASA, and Livermore labs. We are probably target #1.

I'm hoping to get a place up front of the line at the pearly gates.

i used to live in maryland i moved a few years ago but maryland would absolutly be a high priority target. for one its one of the major port areas for the east coast, its extremly close to dc, many politicians and other elites own homes in the state, Maryland is a life sciences hub with over 350 biotechnology firms, making it the third-largest such cluster in the nation, they have johns hopkins hospital and medical school there. Lockheed Martins head quarters is in maryland as well as the following sites with info provided by both wiki and there own homepages. this info was all part of my rational from moving away from all my friend and family to live in a small town in central ny near the mountains.

Andrews Air Force Base - Camp Springs
The 4,320-acre base hosts more than 20,000 active duty military people, civilian employees and family members. Andrews' current mission is that of emergency reaction and contingency response capabilities critical to national security, and support for Air and Space Expeditionary Forces.

Aberdeen Proving Ground - northeast of Baltimore
A proving ground is a military installation or reservation where weapons or other military technology are experimented or tested, or where military tactics are tested.

Fort Detrick - Frederick
"Welcome to Fort Detrick
We are a premier quad-services installation committed to excellence. As an Army Medical Installation we are home to the United States Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC), the National Cancer Institute (NCI-Frederick) and 37 mission partners. The primary missions include biomedical research and development, medical materiel management and global telecommunications. We are also home to a National Interagency Confederation for Biological Research and National Interagency Biodefense Campus. The United States Army Garrison (USAG) provides base operations support for Fort Detrick."
(bio and chem weapons r&d and storage)

Fort Meade - Argonne Hills
National Security Agency headquarters, one of many federal users of Ft. Meade land

Naval Air Station Patuxent River - Lexington Park
Naval Air Station Patuxent River (IATA: NHK, ICAO: KNHK, FAA LID: NHK), also known as NAS Pax River, is a United States Naval Air Station located in St. Mary's County on Chesapeake Bay near the mouth of the Patuxent River. It is home to the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School and serves a center for test and evaluation and systems acquisition relating to Naval Aviation. Commissioned on 1 April 1943 on land largely acquired through eminent domain, the air station grew rapidly in response to World War II.

National Naval Medical Center - Bethesda
The National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, United States, also known as the Bethesda Naval Hospital, is considered the flagship of the United States Navy's system of medical centers. A federal institution, it conducts medical and dental research as well as provides health care for American leaders, including the president and his family.

United States Naval Academy - Annapolis
The United States Naval Academy is an undergraduate college in Annapolis, Maryland, United States, that educates and commissions officers of the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The Academy often is referred to simply as "Annapolis." It is also called "The Academy," "The Boat School," or "Canoe U." Sports media refer to the Academy as Navy; this usage is officially endorsed. The U.S. Naval Academy was established October 10, 1845.

Wow
I knew I was screwed from any potential nuclear attack but I did not even think of half of those locations. I will be disintegrated. Very quickly it seems.Well I guess that's the way to go though; don't want to survive a nuclear war anyway as that would be sheer agony for anyone left. A slow and extremely painful death at that.No where on the world to hide from the nuclear fall out that would engulf the world.

i know maryland is a huge target, i couldent stay there any more to much goverment. i lived in baltimore and the crime i could deal with but to many cops, feds, and the security grid there is fricken crazy. i live in a small town now near no likly targets for attack near the mountains. the wild life is plentiful, the fishing is great, many places to go to ground and a miniscule amount of cops, military, and feds if any within a hour drive. much better .

the prevailing winds will cause the fallout from both the
Charleston, SC Naval Base.......and particularly the;
Savannah River Nuclear Facilities
where bombs & warheads are fabricated.

Some months back there was a pretty big deal with M.E. 'students' getting stopped near the naval base @ Charleston, with *explosives in their vehicle...
i suggested in that ATS thread that the 'would-be terrorists' might have actually been scouts for a later operation aimed at the SavannahRiverProject, rather than the nearby ParrisIsland Marine Station or the Charleston Naval Base.

in any case...SC is flush with Nuke warhead plants, Navy Bases, AF bases, Army bases, Marine bases, and they're all along an imaginary corridor being 40mi wide & 160mi long... making an imaginary n.s. Slash (|) across the state

Well, i believe that if any nuclear missles go off the entire northern hemisphere would be a ground zero
. All you would have is a choice between dying fast in the middle of the blast or dying slowly from the radiation.

I think that the best option for anyone that lives in USA would be to get some land in Paraguay
Or somewhere in South America. For those in Europe i would say Africa but that place is so full of diesease most probably wouldn't last anyway. As for Australia , i am sure they would be safe from first wave but most likely China will be there soon after

Therefore i think it wouldn't really matter where you are , all that matters is to stop it before it happens , but at the rate of things happen these days i believe we might be a little too late
