You’re perpetuating a logical fallacy by using Ted Bundy; i.e. all fish have scales therefore all things with scales are fish. And as I said before, there have been people who say that god told them to kill or have killed in the name of religion, does this justify banning religion?

Originally posted by apaulo No, I said exactly what I meant.

Erm you said the Meese commission, it’s the same thing. And it is a fact that it was roundly criticized from all quarters.

You haven’t responded to anything else I said btw.

@ Who_ME?

Prove anything you have just said.

"In their appeal, government lawyers claimed there was uncontradicted expert evidence that visual or written pornography "fuels the sexual fantasies of pedophiles" and leads to abuse of children".
"The study was prepared by Queen's University professors Bill Marshall and Sharon Hodkinson, who were hired by Revenue Canada to assess the psychological health of Canada Customs staff who spend their days reviewing the most deviant forms of hardcore pornography, including child pornography".

"Internet contacts increase pedophilia, Spanish experts say
Detentions of pedophiles have gone up rapidly in Spain, where experts attribute the increase of such crimes to the opportunities the internet offers to child molesters or pornography consumers.
The web not only provides an outlet for people with deep-rooted pedophiliac tendencies, but can also create a sexual attraction to children, expert Guillermo Canovas says."

Mike A. Why is it you seem to need "proof" when it's so apparently obvious by so much we see, read and watch being reported in the news? What would it take for you to realize the reality of something? To have it actually happen to 'your' child, wife, girlfriend or a loved one?????

From your first link…

Indeed, the study found that, despite the barrage of obscenity they endured in their jobs, the Customs employees held healthy attitudes towards women and enjoyed normal sexual relations.

And…

Canada Customs cautions that the project was merely an internal study of a health and safety issue, not a foray into the contentious discussion of child pornography and the limits of free expression.

"This is a not a contribution to the debate over whether or not pornography is or is not harmful to society",

The second link is clearly about the use of the internet by paedophiles to groom and make contacts not the assertions you made.

Anyway, as I said to Apaulo, the kind of evidence I’m looking for is a peer reviewed academic study, not a media article.

As for why I need proof, it’s probably because what you and Apaulo have said isn’t obvious. It may be in your eyes but other people require something more substantial to base their opinions on than media hysteria and the ramblings of random pundits.

Just as a reminder…

...this is the RANT forum.

I can state any

gripe,

complaint,

or issue I want.

If you don’t like it, that is just fine with me. You can call names; say I need help whatever you want. It won’t change my mind, and I’m probably not going to change your mind either. BUT that isn’t my agenda. IF it was, I’d be posting on the DEBATE forum.

I have absolutely no desire to debate. NONE.

I do desire, however, to state my “rant”.

PORN IS EVIL and it is for NARCCISSISTIC, self-loving, egocentric individuals that causes them to become even MORE disconnected with the humanity and dignity of men and women.

If you are addicted to porn, however, you can be set free. Many years ago I was a sex and porn addict, but Jesus Christ set me free. 13 years now. (Uh oh, I said the "J" word... somebody is going to get bent out of shape now.) Thing is, porn is a lot like smoking. You don't think it's a problem, and you don't think it controls you... until you try to quit. BUT, most people don't want to quit. They enjoy being spiritually dead, and they love porn cause it makes them feel alive.
Porn warped my attitude in general toward women and it was pivotal in corrupting my first marriage into a twisted and perverse relationship of self-destruction. It started slowly, but eventually it eroded away all genuine dignity, respect, and humanity between us until there was nothing but selfishness.

I can see it already... this is going to bring some attacks.

(((((Sorry to get off the OP there, maybe we can get back to the QUESTIONS ...)))))

Would you want it to be illegal?

Do you think it does any harm?

Re: your last post Apollo, about being addicted to porn and becoming free from it's strangle hold on your life, I applaud your honesty and bravery in coming forth, acknowledging your weaknesses and claiming your victory. Hoorah for you, you are a very brave man who deserves a huge amount of credit for your triumphs over such a pervasive addiction. Having the Almighty influence of God in your life has allowed you to not only stand up and face this addiction, but also to rejoice in our Lord Jesus, for by his stripes, we are healed. You claimed Him as your Savior and He has set you free.
Amen, (so be it)

One other addition here about your post Apollo, is this famour quote by Horace Mann, who was considered the Father of American Education, which speaks of truth and how it can set you free:

Any man who seeks greatness, let him forget greatness and ask for truth. He will find both. - Horace Mann, 1796-1859,

Thanks for the compliment, Murangelo. You're right about it not being easy to share. I really am ashamed of that part of my life and I don't like to acknowledge it, but I felt it was necessary to add it.

BTW, I loved the quote. Thanks for sharing it with us...

I jut learned I am an Evil, Narcissistic, self-loving( REALLY SELF-LOVING) ego centric person. On the other hand, I give to charity, I volunteer to help other, My child is a great kid who helps other even if it is not cool, I am well liked, have a great job and am not addicted to anything? Hmm doesnt seem like your description of people who watch porn.
Hmmmm Seems like YOU dont like YOU or who YOU were and do not understand MOST people who enjoy porn are not like YOU. Your weakness is just that your weakness. Not all people who drink are alcoholics.

You can take my porn from my cold dead sticky hand

As soon as any of you bring religion or God into this discussion is the moment I totally disregard everything you've ever said previously.

A delusional belief in a deity is as false as the images you view watching porn.

I tend to notice people blame everything else but themselves for their problems. Alcohol, porn, drugs, gambling, eating, etc get the blame when it is us who are at fault. I have many problems and do try to solve them, but I do not blame other things for my faults. It is me and me alone who can change. It is me who must find out the answers and take care of myself. I can sit down and blame everything else, but the problems I have will not go away. I would just blame something else for the problems.

I do applaud the OP for getting the help that was best for them. I just go about it a different way, and do not blame a person or object for my failings.

What I don't get is why everyone associates porn viewers with crazed sex addicts who can't get a real date and are sex offenders?

Oh I get it now! You have no self control so you want to demonise porn because other people can enjoy it without any problems while you have to cling onto a magical crutch. Makes perfect sense now.

Oh and don’t moan about that because if you’re going to call me an evil, self loving, narcissistic, egocentric individual because I think porn is ok then you should be prepared for people to sling mud back.

I don't think porn itself should be banned, I think it should be harder to access.
I think nudity however should be banned from public TV completely.

Self-control for 13 years now, by the power of Jesus Christ.

…don’t moan about that because if you’re going to call me an evil…

I said

“PORN IS EVIL…”
nothing about YOU or anyone else.
BUT you know what? I used to be a NARCCISSISTIC, self-loving, egocentric individual. It wasn’t so extreme that I could’ve been diagnosed with a mental problem, but I was just HONEST with myself. (((I saw MY own character flaw.))) It didn’t mean I was a bad person. It didn’t mean I was EVIL. By everyone’s standards and opinion, I was a fine person… okay, maybe a few thought I was a jerk, but overall, I was a decent guy.

I didn’t like being controlled though.

The old saying, “Women rule, men drool.” Was nothing but the truth for me, and at one time I didn’t mind.

Thing is, the time came when I heard…
“But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast [it] from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not [that] thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast [it] from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not [that] thy whole body should be cast into hell. - Mat 5:28”

…that was when I decided I wanted to change, but I couldn’t do it myself. I really did try, but then I was just set free.

I really didn’t mean to step on anyone’s toes. I can be a verbal klutz sometimes, but I have nothing against those who enjoy porn. If it were child porn, well, that would be a different story; they are victims...

Oh ok so you just called me a “self loving, narcissistic, egocentric individual”. And if you’re really going to play the “but I didn’t say your name so don’t take it personally” game then fair enough…

(Deep breath) People who say they were addicted to porn because it is just inherently evil but claim they were then saved via the intervention of a great invisible beardy bloke in the sky really only have no self control and must justify there failure by making up nonsense including but not limited to demonising porn as an inherent evil that will corrupt anyone who comes into contact with it even though there is no actual evidence for that. Phew!

But to get more on topic the point is your problems with porn are your own, largely unique to you and a select few individuals; they sprout from YOUR failings and no one else’s (nothing wrong with that we all have them!).

However to blame these failings on anything else without evidence that it is the actual cause is a copout. If you are successful in convincing others that this is the case then all you end up doing is restricting other people’s rights. Worse still you delude yourself into believing that your behaviour was out of your control when in fact it wasn’t, and that harms you. That is what you are doing in this thread; it’s not porn that causes people to treat women badly or abuse people or act like a jerk, its people!

As for the jesusy stuff, whatever get’s you through your day. It’s another copout but at least it takes you in a positive direction.

I don’t think you understand, Mike. When I say I was set free, I really mean FREE.

Porn is a click away and the reason I do not check it out is because the desire is gone. My choice isn’t motivated by fear that God will send me to hell… that’s religion. What I have is real power that has literally washed the desire away. I just don’t want to look at it. I am free to make that choice, where as before I was an addict.

That isn’t a cop-out. That’s just the simple truth.

Porn made illegal? But what would I do?!?! You mean all porn, including your own, like a b/f or g/f giving you pictures/videos of themselves. Gah, what a horrible idea. Porn with any consenting adult does no harm too any consenting adult, the person who is supposed too have it. Sorry, but I like my stuff too much to ban it.
