LONDON — A father who repeatedly raped his two daughters for nearly 30 years told the children the abuse would never stop.

They finally broke the silence this year, but only after he had fathered nine of their children.

After nearly three decades of abuse, the 56-year-old father was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison with the possibility of parole in about 20 years after pleading guilty last month to rape and assault. During years of incestuous abuse, the man fathered nine children from his two daughters.

"In nearly 40 years of dealing with criminal cases ... (this) is the worst I have come across," judge Alan Goldsack said in his ruling at Sheffield Crown Court in northern England.

The case carries echoes of the case of Josef Fritzl — an Austrian man who confessed to imprisoning his daughter in a cellar for 24 years and fathering her seven children.

I was debating whether or not to post this article. I didnt want to ruin anyone elses night before thanksgiving coming up. This story made me sick to my stomach.

but I felt that news like this should still be shared.

What sickens me is the fact that he was sentenced to life WITH the possibility of parole. He fathered 9 children from his incestuous rapes of his two daughters. Why on earth is he given the possibility of parole?


However I doubt he will last long in prison. Rapists and child molesters are treated the worst. And he did both, to the extreme.

Just sick.

It's the time scale that boggles my mind. This wasn't all done underground in a celler - apparently there was all sorts of contact with neighbours in the towns where they lived, schools and social services.

Well, this will probably be an explosive topic like the last due to emotions running wild, but I'm confused as to how this could go on for SO LONG without the daughters doing anything. Was the father watching them 24/7? Did the daughters just believe it was impossible to escape? It baffles me. I mean, I could understand maybe a month or a year, but 30 years? And why now, of all times? It really makes you think there's more to it than meets the eye...

Sadly in the UK almost any crime however vile has the possibility of parole attached to the sentence. I think you have to kill a minimum of two people in order to get a proper life sentence. That's our Labour government for you "Tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime" - Utter bullsh#t!

This sucks. The daughters were probably sort of brainwashed into believing that their father loved them, and he probably drilled into their head that they could never attract any other men.
No matter what the case, he deserves castration, and life institutionalized. The daughters are also probably messed up, and should not be allowed to raise their incest children. Or any other children for that matter. No offense to the poor ladies, but incest and abuse often begets more incest and abuse.

I have to agree with why did the daughters let this go for so long, nine children as a result and no one noticed anything unusual about that?

Did these people live out in the wilderness and never go to town for anything? No neighbors noticed anything?

They must have lived in seclusion and behind some very tall trees and bushes for absolutely no one to notice 9 kids appearing and two daughters with no husbands.

I wonder what else goes on in that neighborhood!!!!

Does the News article fit in to any kind of conspiracy or alien related topic? Why would you bring something like that to ATS? Wouldn't there be better forums for it??

What are you gripping about. I have seen other subjects posted in the alternative news section of ATS that has nothing to do with the usual ATS subject matter. For example, one thread was about some 17 year old Iraqi girl who was stoned to death and a video posted too.

Besides, how many sections are there that deal with different topics here at ATS?

As a victim of abuse myself, and a darned good mother of three, I must say that's one of the most ignorant posts I've ever read.

This is right up there with the UK story of the deadbeat parents murdering that innocent child. To say I am appalled, disgusted, and angry, is a gross understatement.

Stuff like this makes me ashamed to be human.

This is why we need to be openly talking about sex with kids in a very discreet way so that they know who to go to at an early stage.

Geez after 30 years of abuse it's amazing that they had the courage. That's very mental man.

This is not "news." I saw a one hour special on this many months ago, on one of the news networks like MSNBC. It told all the detail of the case, and how the woman finally came forward after all those years. Very disturbing, and surely left a bad taste in my mouth.

With this horrible story, thats all you could add to the conversation about it?


As to the victims being mothers. 30 years is a lot of rape. I was a victim of abuse myself and I can understand a difference between my 3 years of sexual abuse and a lifetime of it.

But if they are deemed fit mothers, let them keep the children.

Yea lol, I thought that was clearly a given. Obviously the guy wasn't arrested and convicted and sentenced in one day.

though he deserves it.

i already know im going to take heat for this but

no offense this is nothing personal, for all i know you're the worlds best mother, or some other formerly abused person is


but statistics show people who have been abused are more likely to get caught in the cycle

people bought up in that type of environment whether we like it or not are handicapped for a lack of a better/kinder word/statement

studys show kids who are hit are more likely to end up hitting, etc, etc

for the most part we're all products of our environment

now please dont get me wrong thats not 100 percent of the people, not every kid abused is going to abuse, but maybe its time we stop the politically correct thing and just regulate things a little smarter, some people just shouldnt be allowed to have children, thats why we have child services and stuff like that, and honestly, if those daughters were bought up in such a bad environment for that long, the chances for the guys kids/grandkids arent very good


now we can play the dice, we can allow these people to raise these kids and risk the gamble that the new parents arent going to continue the cycle

or we can just play it safe and completely avoid the situation and not have to worry about this same news article popping up in the paper about this same family in another 30 years from now

in my opinion we're too concerned to being politically correct to get rid of the dangers we face







now i know im going to be attacked probably, and everyones going to think i mean all abused people are unfit, that is not how i wish to sound but i feel ive shown my point


on a ending note, its sad these horrors take place, and i think we should all be willing to do almost whatever it takes to ensure this type of things doesnt happen in the future, and if all we have to do is tell certain people they cant have kids because of the risk, well hey, guess those people just have to get puppies or something

Good post. Kailassa, you may well be the exception that proves the rule, I'm afraid.

Also: 20 years? Is that it? Am I the only person in Britain who thinks we've become a nation of limp-wristers? What would Queen Victoria have said about all this?
