It's confirmed: Matter is merely vacuum fluctuations

Matter is built on flaky foundations. Physicists have now confirmed that the apparently substantial stuff is actually no more than fluctuations in the quantum vacuum. The researchers simulated the frantic activity that goes on inside protons and neutrons. These particles provide almost all the mass of ordinary matter.

So if the LHC confirms that the Higgs exists, it will mean all reality is virtual.

Hard concept to wrap your mind around... Actually what would that mean for us? Interesting...

Who said you couldn't get something out of nothing?

Science is just trying to keep people from realising matter is made from energy, so their last resort is saying matter is made from... vibrating nothing. Woo. Way to go Einstein... wannabes.

I remember seeing something on tv when i was a child way back when and there was this scientist saying that there is a 99.9% probability that we are a simulation running in some alien computer somewhere, he used chaos theory maths to come to the conclusion, dunno why but it has always stuck with me!

I actually somehow or another came to this conclusion when I was 17. Yet it was after massive '___' and ecstasy useage, but I was sober at the time. It's like I knew this, but couldn't fully accept it because, of course, anyone who heard of that would think I was crazy. This is the first I've ever said anything.

Anyways, I still, 9 years later am not fully convinced, so will just keep to my "who knows?" philosophy when speaking about the grand scheme of the universe.

So obviously you didn't read the article before giving your opinion. I'll put it in simple words:

99 percent of mass comes from the energy from the movements and interactions of quarks and gluons.

So mass does come from energy. They merely explain where the energy comes from.

E = mc2. Who knew, Einstein was right...

sounds like some of you in here should read about

en.wikipedia.org...

He pretty much came up with the whole reality may not be reality idea

What you're saying is mass comes from energy which comes from tiny bits of mass interacting with each other...
Personally I think all this modern physics is sand in the eyes, an academic quagmire designed and funded to keep people away from the mass = energy reality of our universe, and the realization that it is a living system.

No, I can't prove it, I just don't buy what scientists claim and can't prove yet either. And I have never bought the "the math is too complex, you wouldn't understand it" smokescreen being thrown up either. Thats for gullible left brain slaves to be caught up in, spend half their lives solving equations and getting disconnected from reality to then think they know something which they don't.

I read the article, I just didn't take it very seriously, sorry.

Sorry, my brain shut down after the number: 10,000 Trillion! Excuse me! Damn. Who wants to be the mathmetician to pull these calculations off? hehe

This is something that truly ties closely in with spirituality. Just wanted to throw that out there in this 'science' thread.

Very cool and interesting stuff.

sounds alot like quantum gravity braids to me heres a link to neonhaze's thread on that nothing really new coming out of it imo

www.abovetopsecret.com...

The link to your source talks about the higgs feild and many other unsubstantiated physics it should be lent no more credence than any other theory until mass is figured out. Everyone needs to sit back relax and wait for the fellows at cern to crack the mass enigma. Do not count on ever finding a theory that describes everything the fabled TOE. Its an impossibility.... we only explain as much as we can observe and since we our bound inside the universe we cannot observe its entirety so we are forever barred from the TOE. All of theoreticle physics should be taken with a grain or maybe a whole damn spoon full of salt here are examples of other fantastic ideas that still need to be substantiated.
