You are required to register because that is the law of the United States of America.

But of course you don't want to. You think you have no obligations to this country, you are ENTITLED. You expect to be given everything, and not to ever have to sacrifice a thing for your country.

People like you make me sick to my stomach. You coddled, opusillanimous little puddle of putrid puke!

Well a little more to the point then I would have put it, but I agree. People in this country think everything should be handed to them on a silver platter. Well I'm sorry I am the one to tell you folks this but these 'rights' you think the country owes you were fought and won with the blood of common day people. They stood up for themselves and earned the right to free speech and the the right to bare arms. What have you done to earn these rights? You were born here so you should automatically be given these rights?

I think at the age of 18 EVERY MAN and WOMAN should preform some form of public service. Whether it be joining the military, working at a hospital or homeless shelter, or some other form of aide service. Instead of hiding behind a piece of paper get out there and help yourself and your fellow man. Just so I don't have anyone saying practice what you preach. I graduate high school a semester early, spent four years in the army, spent the last two years in college where I am part of the National Honor Society, and regularly participate in food drives, highway clean ups, and other community events.

"ask not what your country can do for you, but you can do for your country"

The gov. is corrupt because we have been lazy and let it become that way.

True very true, I applaud everything you wrote.

Too many people (especially in my generation) have no concept of the sacrifices that were made to create and build this nation of ours. Too many people have no concept of hard work and dedication. Too many people of no concept of duty or simply doing the right thing.

Where do you people live? Selective service has been around for a long time. This is not a conspiracy.

The Selective Service Act of 1917 (40 Stat. 76) was passed by the Congress of the United States on May 18, 1917 creating the Selective Service System.

Don't think there is a real need for alarm. If it is against your beliefs or whatever there are a plethora of ways to not be drafted if it came to be.

-VOICE OF REASON...

you received this as a letter in the mail???

where do you live and can you scan it so we can spread the word about this draft (lets call it what it is)

-Voice of someone who has no idea what they are talking about...

This really is no big deal...Like the quote from Doom says, this policy has been in effect for almost 100 years. No draft since the 60's

Besides, WW3 probably wont be fought by men...It will be fought by large mushroom clouds over major cities.

P.S. I got a razor for my 18th birthday too from Gillette...It was a Mach 3...Very nice of them!

I'm so jealous I didn't get a razor, but then I didn't get a SS card either. That might be cause I was already enlisted though.

You Beat me to it Medic!... I've never seen so much crying & complaining in a thread. Ok you're scared to go to war and get shot at and possibly have to kill someone... Not a problem, everyone isn't a warrior. Join the Coast Guard and be a rescue diver or go patrol the waters looking for stranded boaters or the CIA's Drugs coming in from colombia. OR you can keep playing socom or gears of war on xbox 360 and feel like a warrior in the comfort of your parents basement. Freedom Ain't Free

obligatory "A few good men" quote

Col. Jessep:

"Son, we live in a world that has walls and those walls need to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and curse the Marines; you have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives and that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use then as the backbone of a life trying to defend something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you," and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest that you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to. They don't know.
They would like you to believe they do, but they don't.

Same thing with that jury duty crap. I never respond to it, and I never will. I am not supporting a system that gives me parking tickets for parking in front of my house.

True they may never find out. Good luck getting a passport, registering a firearm, getting a job that has anything to do with any form of the gov., a security clearance (applied for a non-fed programming job and it required a security clearance even though it had nothing to do with the gov.) , I even think there is something about the SS card when you fill out your taxes every year. I could be wrong on that last part though.

Basically just fill it out. Chances of you actually being called to duty are slim to none. They will call the Inactive reserves, then the reserves, then the national guard before they call the 'general public' to arms. Probably not in that order but there are at least three groups of people that already have military training that can be activated before they call up people with out any military training.

You really don't understand and must not have read previous replies...in the past they fought Britian to get the rights because Britian was ruling them and taxing them unjustly...Iraq and Afghanistan or Iran soon are not ruling or taxing me or even not taking my rights away....the people taking my rights away is the US government...think I've made my point.

It's sort of funny to me, who has seen other countries military services in action, to see how coddled and whiney Americans are. No wonders we have such a terrible reputation with other countries.

When I was in the Army in Korea (1985 or so I believe), ALL Korean males had to SERVE two years in the military. They had no choice. The lucky ones (with rich parents) were able to get on as a KATUSA, but the served in an army that is nowhere NEAR our level of professionalism. Nothing like going to take a piss on the ridge above the firing range, while the were still firing!

Just sign up, or move to a country where you feel that you don't have to give any sacrifices to get everything you want, including freedom. I'm sure there are a lot of countries like that.

I wouldn't put too much faith into what that website has to say. IF the draft ever comes up, and someone tries to pull the stunt this guy is saying, you won't get drafted; but will probably get a nice prison term to deal with.

Are you really that ignorant you are comparing the USA to Korea!! Come on that is why so many people come here, to avoid having no choice about things like going to the army and to have other freedoms as well of course(I believe we already have a big and strong army and there is no need for this)...in my home country once I would have turned 18 I would have had to go straight to the military which is just one of the many reasons my parents brought me to America. That is also not why we have the terrible reputation. We have a bad rep with other countries because we get involved in spots we don't have to because we have no beef there. But we go there anyway...America has to stop playing World Police and then other countries might be more friendly towards us. And tell me Korea was a just war as well please...give me some more laughs...

Ignorant? Nope, I think he was just telling you that other countries have mandatory military service. I think the US is one of the few that doesn't and has a completely "volunteer force".

So take a chill pill with the "ignorant" remarks.

And you mean it wasn't? I'm sure that the South Korean civilians that were rounded up and shot by the North Korean Army might have something to say.

And which country did you originally come from????

Actually, I was in the DEP when I turned 18, and I still had to register for the Selective Service. If/when you get out of the military, you could still be drafted, that's why you still have to sign up for the draft...

Yes, you must register for the "draft".
That is because you are not considered to be a sovereign entity.
You are property. Your owners are those elite who rule the world.
Get used to it.

It is a bit of reality really. If you ever want a driver's license you must register for the draft. It is not actually a draft entirely yet, it is more or less a fail safe for the Military in the event something major occurs where they must quickly fill the ranks of the Marines and Army for on going Operations. I recieved my Selective Services letter 8 days before my 18th birthday and I safe guard both wallet cards I recieved in the mail.

As others have said this has been around for years. It is nothing new or a conspiracy that the draft is coming back. Sadly you must accept this, there is no running to Canada or Mexico anymore because the Government has made agreements with both countries should a draft be implented all US military aged males shall be returned to the United States to face trial.

Now this website here: www.militaryspot.com...
is the best site offering information about all of this. Read it carefully it explains pretty much everything draft wise you need to know. So stop complaining, they're going to go after the 20 year olds first anyways...

I signed the selective service but that doesn't mean I believe in it. If there is a draft, I have no intentions of fighting for this government ( which that's all it is anyways ). If any of you think that in today's age, you're fighting for the protection of your country, then you are delusional.

Now if there was irrefutable proof that our country's current enemy wanted the ultimate destruction of our family and had the means to do it and was going through with it, then I'd have no problem fighting.

That's all changed now with the problems with the Middle East. I'm 100% against it and will not fight just to see the rich become richer the poor become poorer.

women aren't drafted because the bill states able bodied 'male persons' in order for them to draft women.. there would have to be an amendment
