Linguistics play a very important role in society and is used to sell everything from ideas to products, as well as socially by way of morphing two words into one, such as "Brangelina" (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie) or "Tomkat" (Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes), for example.

Overall, I can completely understand how this pairing could create a subconscious connection which may prove to be very detrimental to the Obama campaign.

Just my two cents.

There is something to it, perhaps it somehow lessens the fear of an enemy?

I don't understand at all how a negatively associated name becomes a positive in name recognition, the mind does reverse alot of things perceptually, it could appeal to a need to remove a fear like I said...

I don't know and can only guess, name recogniton is a huge aspect of politics though for sure and Osama Bin Laden was easilly the most heard name inAmerica for a long time and fear makes a deep impression, I know that much

But don't for a second think that it's not somehow a factor, don't kid yourselves that a nobody rises so fast with that name... it's a factor it's just not easy to understand how it works

and it's obviously a positive for Obama and The op wasn't looking to bash him

quite a coincidence ObamaBiden (not) somehow we are all being laughed at here and I have no idea for sure

Advanced psychological games are dangerous in the wrong hands

I never feard a guy who worked for the CIA and was posted to act like a leader of a Terrorist group.

In fact thats the greatest way to take over the world:
1. Establish aquiantances around the globe
2. Pretend to be at war with eachother and prosper as Nations.
3. Eliminate the Aquiantances.
4. Start from 1.

Funny thing is I was explaining this to my friend earlier today. Not necessarily will people automatically think of Bin-Laden, but they will associate the name as an 'arabic' name and possibly might turn them off to the ticket. That is of course if the lived in a hole under a rock and just showed up to the voting booth with no idea who they're voting for prior to getting there!

and you know what as absolutely retarded as this is

It's also completely absolutely wierd at the same time

Osama Bin Laden Obama Biden

It is... too damn coincidental somehow, I can't pin it, but i's strange and his middle name is Hussein too...

There is something absolutely Off about his whole election and this whole thing is kind of creepy imho

I'm sorry but somehow I just seriously feel like a very real mind game is being played with us and ...

I feel like we are being led somehow and people talk of sigil magic which I would describe as complicated psychology...

But something is very wrong

I'm no dummy, and I know this all seems meaningless and my rational mind says ignore nonsense like this...

But my intuition is going off like a shotgun...

I'm being played, I did alot of strange things growing up to make money, from street hustling to working as a Tarot reader, been in sales my whole life and not low end junk... I grew up in NYC, I've known con men my whole life

and

something is utterly bs, this is a flag..of something I don't know what exactly...

But if I was buying a car, at this point i'd be walking off the lot

Not from this name thing lol... it's all just too damn much, this is all scripted, it's all bs, I'm being delphied, this is a sales trap of some sort

This whole election is bs, I call bs

we need to put aside our differneces and NOT address race or party or anything else and really examine what it is that's going on...

again this is all a joke, I'm being conned somehow i know it, theories don't need to be argued or innane things dismissed...

too much weird, too much going on, too much control...

something big is going on and this whole election is a sham... we are being played with

My thoughts?

Between the people who choose to remain ignorant, and the ones who truly are, a great majority of the Americans wont look beyond the name morphing and will completely pass over the real issues of Obama choosing this man as a running mate.

I’m not going to spoon feed you the numerous reasons why this man is a colossal threat to a country already under siege.
If you care you’ll vet him out and come to your own collusions.
ha ha
Hey, maybe you'll even find out Obama and Biden are related!

...you say tomato, I say tomato...

call it whatever you want, but when i browsed the headlines yesterday, i read osama bin laden. Upon closer inspection, i was obama biden...
Subconsiously, my mind had made the connection, so it's not really a surprise to me that this is brought up here.

Just thought i'd throw that in.

I don't believe I'm answering this thrash thread... :shk:

But if someone is stupid enough to seriously relate Obama/Biden to Osama bin Laden, then they probably weren't going to vote for Obama anyway, if you know what I mean.
No big loss. I'm certain no one here is that stupid. Right?

It reminds me of the lady in W.Virgina who said she'd "had enough Hussein"!
What a moron! What a stupid excuse to cover one's bigotry! Yeah, I'm sure it's the NAME you're uncomfortable with, lady!

But hey, if a person doesn't possess the mental faculties that would allow them to consciously discern the difference between a candidate for the US presidency and the supposed architect of the 9/11 attacks, then they should go ahead and vote for McCain. They probably voted for Dubya anyway.

I quite like the morph Joebama!

I posted this on Justin Oldman's thread

Clinton? Obama? or Edwards? Who Will It Be? www.abovetopsecret.com...
then saw this one:

Sooner or later some damned fool right winger of a nut job (my respect for them grows less and less each day) is going to try and merge Obama/Biden into Osama Bin laden and there are idiots out there who will fall for it.

Any thoughts?

Yeah. If people honestly get confused by that then there's no hope for this country. Unless you call used outdated newtonian textbooks and out of touch reality tv shows the new hope.

I agree, at least with respect to any express association.

But you have to admit, at a subliminal level, it does potentially create a small problem. You can't ignore how the brain perceives language.

I swear this election couldn't get any stranger.

If Ted Kennedy can do it and get away with it in his referances to the man, I believe that lots of people with the inebriated mindset thats represented on the main streets of America will do much the same thing. I realy get a weak feeling in the pit of my stomach at the intelligence some of the 'Man in the streets' interviews I have listened to in the last 10 years or so. The OP's original premiss is not that far fetched!!

Interesting, though some might not believe it, the human mind picks up on images subconsciously, the similarity between the names might be enough for some to, in a strange way link the two. Ted Kennedy messed up Obama's name once, things like that do happen.

Kinda odd coincidence, at the very least. I don't think people will actually think they are voting for OBL though.

I am willing to bet this will cause at least one person to vote against and one to vote for. In the big picture it will most likely not make a huge difference. I honestly do believe there are some people who refuse to think for them self who will let this affect their choice.

If it were a real threat it would seem that VP candidate would be someone else. This was bound to have been considered.

I think it is also kinda odd how the Obama crowd is immediately calling people racists and/or ignorant here when they is no doubting the fact the the two phrases look and sound similar. Note I say similar, not exact.

If you don't see that some people somehow might "link" Obama/Biden to the name Osama Bin Laden subconsciously, then you don't get how the human brain "reads" words. We tend to look only at the Beginning and End of words and phrases to discern the meaning, we tend to "tune out" the middle portions. In that respect, there are striking similarities between the two phrases. That's all I'm saying.

So who in America is going to vote for Obama based on someone thinking they are voting for OBL? I don't get that one.

Amzing that you can see the subliminal. Most folks in America including many here cannot see it, even when its more obvious than the clouds in the sky. The fact that OBAMA sounds like OSAMA, the muslim connection of his father, middle name is HUSSEIN (Saddam Hussein -Iraq). Now this which you see with your spirit eyes.

You cannot reach these people anymore...they are damned and unrecoverable because they hate the truth and love the lie. (The ones that say nonsense, poke fun at you with the tinfoil hat jokes, the ones that tell you to take your meds and joke about black helicopters) There is no sense in trying to convince these people of the truth any longer. Let destiny take its course.

does this mean that when people see Michael Johnson they'll think Michael Jackson and thus grab their children and run?

See - antiobama smear campaigns like this are showing the true colors of those who support them

These people think that we, as American Citizens, are that DUMB. No doubt there is a small percentage of people that are truly that mind numbingly stupid.

We see them on the news in the forms of people saying "i've had enough Hussein!!!!"

I really do wish someone would have slapped her across the face for making Americans look bad.

I just hate stupid people....

They should just have to wear a sign that says I'm Stupid

maybe the ATS crew could make us a new smiley that is a wooden plank that reads "here's your sign"

that'd be great

Why not just say it like it is? You're white and you don't want people to vote for Obama cos he's black and he has a muslim name.

You're stereotyping people who don't want to vote for Sen. Obama, Lannock, and given your obvious set of beliefs, you probably should know better than stooping to such an ignorant level.

Do you KNOW that the poster you're referring to is white? I know plenty of white people who aren't voting for Sen. Obama for many reasons, but they're not racists or bigots.

Try to think things through a little more. All you've done here is tried to fight fire with fire. Doesn't work. And you're giving Obama supporters a bad name by associating your petty accusations with them.
