Thanks... I live in Northamptonshire..... An awful lot of through traffic and areas containing the high end homes down to the areas you just don't want to go in. My dad also works in London, so I manage to pick up alot of opinions from different classes and groups of people.

And no, to be honest I don't think we would choose to split up from America, as a country we may not love them.... But we do need the economically at least. However as I said we can be backstabbers in the UK and if the fight were against Europe...chance are their main enemy would be America.

We may well then split from America to save ourself from a threat mere minutes away. We'll help other people to an extent, but in the end it's Britain for the British. (In the stance of people living in Britain or British territory like the Falklands...Not the racist form. )

England is in a terrible position, which is why in times of old it HAD to have such a great army. Unfortuenately we now go by skill instead of numbers, when infact we should keep the skill as high as it is whilst making the numbers higher too.

But actually succesfully invading England, well now that will be a difficult thing indeed.

In a time of need I truly believe almost half of the population would form a resistance, with more joining as time went on... We have more patriotic people than it appears."

Can I just remind everyone that when some people refer to 'England' they actually mean the United kingdom. Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish soldiers are fighting in Iraq and dying for United Kingdom or Great Britain.
...This patriotism you're talking about is a bit hard to come by when England forgets that The United Kingdom is the sum of all its parts and not just England!!

I'm sorry if I gave that opinion but I DO mean England, I believe in brackets somewhere earlier in this thread I said why.

England is the largest country of the UK and contains its capital and leader, with control of the UK a majority of the population is controlled and the remaining countries are cut off by land. It makes sense to me to be the most likely country to be invaded.

Though what I say still rings true for all of the UK. I am not one to make the mistake easily, I am constantly correcting people who call the UK England. And I apologise if I make the mistake myself.

EDIT: Here is what I posted earlier...

(I say England invaded as it is the biggest and controlling country and so
the most likely main target)

Once again, sorry If it appeared I was forgetting Sctoland, Wales, and Northern Island. After all I have family from all of those places anyway...

Yes, we really are a mixed bunch, though I suppose thats what comes from slaughtering eachother hundreds of years ago

I was also thinking...weather could be an issue. Corny for a modern day army it may sound but is it really? Any invasion by parachutes would end terribly, the men would be killed in the air and the moment they hit the ground, therefor it would have to be a D-Day style invasion to hit with force.

The sea is not always very calm so that leads to issue, but then once you get past the seaside towns...(If you get that far before being stopped) You have lots of farmland which is often terribly wet and bog like and would stop most vehicles in their tracks. It would also be near impossibly to move across by foot at any speed. You would be sitting targets.

Lets not also forget that an awful lot of beaches in Britain have large stone walls or even cliffs at the end of the severely narrowing the amount of beaches realistically available.

Should have read more closely. I stand humbled and corrected!

However England is not the controlling country as Scotland and Wales have devolved powers in a United Kingdom government.

The Prime Minister is Scottish.

Anyway i'm getting off the main point - we'd pretty much be screwed from the start. We've been steadily pi**ing off the Ruskies for the last few years and i'm sure by taking out the UK from the start that would send a strong message to the USA.

True, but he lives and operates mainly in London. It is also considered across the world as the capital of great Britain, though perhaps it shouldn't.

Each country should have a specific captial and government that works together for the world to see.

Glasgow, Dublin and Belfast are not really thought of when the UK is mentioned.

But we would all repel any invasion spectacularly and it could possibly relieve tension between Ireland and England.

Nor should Glasgow be as Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland.

I'm just being pedantic now!!

It would certainly revive British patriotism and put an end to devolution! The SNP must be shi**ing themselves now!

At least that's one plus point from any potential conflict!

Russian and UK relations have been in decline even before the Litvenenko murder - The Ruskies were pretty piss**d of about finding British spy devices in a rock in Moscow a few years back

If there was a war between Russia and the US, we (UK) would be obliged to join the US in the fight as we are NATO allies as are most of the EU countries.

A war between the US and Iran on the other hand would be a totally different thing. The British people have no will for a fight with Iran.

A China/US war, i wouldnt like to say if the UK would join in.

As for the EU treaty on defence issues, I am sure that there is a 'get-out' clause somewhere in it that if a nation is attacked it could re-divert the EU portion of its armed forces to defend the homeland. Even if there was'nt, an EU defence force would be nothing without UK involvement anyway, so we (UK) could pretty well do what we like with our armed forces.

Exactly, the EU is all nice in theory... (Kind of) But in reality if a country feels threatened and it doesn't receive the best help it can from the EU it will say "To hell with this" And do whatever it wants with its army. After all if the country fails there is no army anyway.
