Russia targeted the pipeline, but they didnt hit it. This was yesterday. If they had indeed destroyed the pipeline yesterday our posts would be a little different right now.

Informal protest.

It looks more like Russia targeted something near the pipeline. Motives don't add up for a direct attack, and pipelines aren't easy to miss.

Essentially, Russia has no reason to want the pipeline gone, that would drag NATO into the fight, which would crush their capability of suppressing Georgia from launching further attacks.

On top of that, if Russia had indeed targeted the pipeline, likelihood is, the pipeline would be in tiny bits.

The likely motive for Russia would be to defend the pipeline to ensure NATO doesn't get dragged into a war with Russia.
Hence, they might have been taking out a potential threat to the pipeline, near the pipeline.

Bush's War in Georgia; Will it be the Flyswatter or the Blunderbuss?

August 11, 2008

"I saw bodies lying on the streets, around ruined buildings and in cars. It’s impossible to count them now. There's hardly a single building left undamaged." Lyudmila Ostayeva, resident of Tskhinvali, South Ossetia

Washington's bloody fingerprints are all over the invasion of South Ossetia. Georgia President Mikhail Saakashvili would never dream of launching a massive military attack unless he got explicit orders from his bosses at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. After all, Saakashvili owes his entire political career to American power-brokers and US intelligence agencies. If he disobeyed them, he'd be gone in a fortnight. Besides an operation like this takes months of planning and logistical support; especially if it's perfectly timed to coincide with the beginning of the Olympic games. (another petty neocon touch) That means Pentagon planners must have been working hand in hand with Georgian generals for months in advance. Nothing was left to chance.

Another tell-tale sign of US complicity is the way President Bush has avoided ordering Georgian troops to withdraw from a province that has been under the protection of international peacekeepers. Remember how quickly Bush ordered Sharon to withdraw from his rampage in Jenin? Apparently it's different when the aggression serves US interests.

Saakashvili has been working closely with the Bush administration ever since he replaced Eduard Shevardnadze as president in 2003. That's when US-backed NGOs and western intelligence agencies toppled the Shevardnadze regime in the so-called color-coded "Rose Revolution". Since then, Saakashvili has done everything that's been asked of him; he's built up the military and internal security apparatus, he's allowed US advisers to train and arm Georgian troops, he's applied for membership in NATO, and he's been a general nuisance to his Russian neighbors. Now, he has sent his army into battle ostensibly on Washington's orders. At least, that is how the Kremlin sees it.Read Full Article

Bush is just Bush...he can't wait to send troops all over the world to mess with everybody else. He is trying to play the Bully around the world, first Iraq, by the looks of things Iran and now Russia? For crying out loud, who does he think he is? God?

No offense to my American fellows here but THE BUSH FAMILY is the reason why the whole world dislike Americans. Bush thinks he can get away with a lot of things and due to other countries not stepping up due to not being able to get support to fight him, he can do whatever the hell he wants.

NATO, UN and other organizations should vote in favor of disallowing the US from taking part in bully decisions, it is just embarrassing having to make excuses for poor leadership for the one and only Bush.

I can't believe he has gotten this far, and to think that he got voted for his second term...it is just incomprehensible to me.

I may have gone off topic here but it is a subject I am totally against.
My Apologies!

You mean all those protests, countries warning against it, foreign intelligence agencies warning Iraq has no WMD's and no affiliation to Al-Qaeda... these weren't counted as warnings?

Anyhow... we've gotten WAY off course here.

And yeah, the American people will love Bush for getting the world peeved at the states... until of course, they end up on the end of the barrel themselves.

It's always easy to support a war you don't have to fight yourself.

I was reading a political blog post on CNN.com this morning while at work, regarding the announcement of VP candidates via email and text messaging, and a poster named Olga posted a simple message:

"You are a stupid country."

It really hit home. Some posters attacked her for spelling "stupid" wrong, but they were too stupid to realize that she wasn't from the US. She was probably from Russia...maybe from Georgia.

People are watching us from all over the world, and people don't forget what we do. I worry about our future.

Yes, this from a woman from a country dumb enough to choose and stick with communism for 60 years.

Russia couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a big symbol on it and a laser guided bullet.
All this talk of how russia is so powerful is a joke.

I cannot for the life of me understand Goergia's stupidity. If my understanding is right, Russia did not start this one (contrary to what the US media is reporting). Georgia gambled and thought the bear would not bite. The doomsday clock has just made one more tick. This may not calm down as easily as some would think. I think I'll hide under the bed with the earlier posts.

That is kinda funny. Bush and Putin are real good friends...saw them on 8/8/8 havin a good old time together in China.

With all this 888, this Norad drill for 8-11 (911) etc....they are brewing up something most definately.

I suggest everyone write congress and the president and tell them to do something more creative than the usual false flag operation.

Many people appear to be accepting the argument that Georgia provoked all this.

But

1) They went into part of their own territory to deal with separatist militias that have been fighting the government for years.

2) There are claims that Russian 'peacekeepers'(!) deliberately provoked a Georgian response on a local scale, which ignited the current crisis

3) Such a move by the 'peacekeepers' fits rather snugly with the widely-held belief that Russian forces have been massing in and around this area for months

4) Russia has the most to gain from conflict: reassertion of their regional power and an opportunity to slap the US in the face as a result of its planned missile defense system deployment.

Do you really think Georgia would deliberately provoke Russia into intervening? There would be no surer way of guaranteeing that Georgia would lose South Ossetia - which has now happened.

Georgia is a sovereign state with a democratically elected government. Thats the difference. Iraq was run by a dictator, not a democratically elected leader.

This is about oil again, the Georgians attacked first with the support of NATO, the US and Israel.. Russia has accused Georgia of killing more than 2,000 people, mostly civilians, in the separatist province of South Ossetia, which they have have an agreement to defend. Bush and the State Department are blowing hot air, poking the Russian bear with a very long stick. Russia has some very advanced military technology, and because of their natural resources (primarily oil) is becoming more than financially stable (certainly in comparison with the US, which 'loses' over one trillion dollars a year

www.whereisthemoney.org...

This money doesn't even begin to explain the horrendous financial disaster the US has become (banks closing their doors, tent cities outside of major cities for the previously middle class). Bush, Cheney and the rest of the chickenhawks are doing their normal chest-thumping/saber rattling routine. I used to laugh at it, but it's an old joke. Do you seriously believe the US is capable of taking on Russia? I've got some seafront property in New Mexico I'd like to sell you.

They didn't 'have' South Ossitia to begin with, it was separate from Georgia. The US is obligated to support allies in armed conflicts, Russia is as well. Russia if obligated to support Iran, as is China. The US is a dictatorship (from the 'Patriot Acts' (1 and 2) to the Military Commissions Act. Every politician who approved these swore an oath to support the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. Every one of them are traitorous, treasonous criminal. Crushing childrens testicles in front of their parents is acceptable, according to former Justice Department's John Yoo?

www.informationclearinghouse.info...
John Yoo publicly argued there is no law that could prevent the President from ordering the torture of a child of a suspect in custody – including by crushing that child’s testicles. This part of the exchange during the debate with Doug Cassel, reveals the logic of Yoo’s theories, adopted by the Administration as bedrock principles, in the real world.

Cassel: If the President deems that he’s got to torture somebody, including by crushing the testicles of the person’s child, there is no law that can stop him?
Yoo: No treaty.
Cassel: Also no law by Congress. That is what you wrote in the August 2002 memo.
Yoo: I think it depends on why the President thinks he needs to do that.

Sure sound to me a lot like what you would expect from a terrorist dictator. I'm not singling Bush out here, he's an incompetent puppet with Cheney being the puppeteer, and Cheney takes his marching orders from other criminals.

The way I see it, Russia is still a little ticked off at the U.S. for "losing" the cold war. Bush needs to shove his head up his butt where it belongs. Russian also has China on it's side, the U.S. owes China around a trillion dollars which technically makes the U.S. China's bitch. You can thank the Clintons for making us that way, it was Bill who made sure of that.
