The Misfits - American Nightmare

The song is a little bit Elvis and a little bit rockabilly punk.

That so much for Rodriguez. It is an amazing story and great music. Much more to learn, thank you!

Considering there was another tragedy on 9/11 - the overthrow of the gov't in Chile - here is to a man who lost his life fighting for the people...

Dangerous times 1973 in another SA...

The Bolivian Def Leopard angry with the man...listen to the jam at the end if you can't get the rest.

Thank you.
Wow so much great new music!

Rodriguez - Crucify your mind:

I'll leave Rodriguez at that, because after so many years the world has changed, and maybe people wouldn't understand.
His story is different to ours; but somewhere in music we intertwined.
I have a feeling however that future generations in the Americas will come to understand his music.
I'm enjoying it all, and love what you posted.
Gonna listen again...

Have you seen a documentary on him or anything? I mean, this has the makings of an amazing film!

No, I haven't seen any documentaries.
I know he did spread to places like the UK, Australia and New Zealand - or where ever there were significant South African expatriates or refugees.
He did tour Australia.
The last tours received mixed reviews, but the man was into his 70's by then.

I just wonder who cashed in all that money while he was a major star without knowing it, and had to work as a construction worker.

I mean record labels are international, so they must have known it from 1970-1997.
So that really makes it a global story of exploitation.
If you Google, there is a biography on him however (I think), but that too is geographically limited.

I see now they did make a film based on his life, but we haven't seen it here, and I guess it was made for TV.
en.wikipedia.org...
Oops - there was actually a documentary on his 1998 SA tour titled Dead men don't tour.
www.sugarman.org...

That's new to me, but all I know is we grew up with his music, and you went to a party with The Doors on one side of the tape, and Rodriguez on the other.
And we thought he was dead from a heroin overdose, or that he was electrocuted on stage.
And then came the big surprise!

Sixto Rodriguez live in Australia last year:
