Just a thought: On Dec. 21, 2012 dont you think that because of the alignment of the planets at that time that it will have a gravitational pull on earth's oceans and cause havock. That is what I think will be devastating or the polar shifts it happens around that time.

Only Mercury, Venus and Saturn will be roughly aligning.
