ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Friday he would be willing to support limited additional offshore oil drilling if that's what it takes to enact a comprehensive policy to foster fuel-efficient autos and develop alternate energy sources.
Shifting from his previous opposition to expanded offshore drilling, the Illinois senator told a Florida newspaper he could get behind a compromise with Republicans and oil companies to prevent gridlock over energy.
Republican rival John McCain, who earlier dropped his opposition to offshore drilling, has been criticizing Obama on the stump and in broadcast ads for clinging to his opposition as gasoline prices topped $4 a gallon. Polls indicate these attacks have helped McCain gain ground on Obama.

news.yahoo.com...

The candidate of change!!

(changing his mind)

This is killing me! This is how Obamiacs will defend this...

"He's just revising his positions..."

Tell me, if he keeps revising which ever way is politically safest, then what do you really think he beleives or won't change?

Here's another flip flop...

Sen. Barack Obama's chief strategist conceded that the Democratic presidential candidate was referring to his race when he said Republicans were trying to scare voters by suggesting Obama "doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills."
A key strategist for Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., says the candidate's reference to faces on the dollar bill was indeed an acknowledgement of race and its role in the presidential campaign.
The comment had triggered a charge Thursday from Sen. John McCain's campaign manager that Obama had "played the race card... from the bottom of the deck."
Playing the Race Card
Obama's camp initially denied the remark was a reference to Obama's race.
Obama is poised to become the first black man to be the presidential nominee of a major political party when he claims the Democratic nomination on Aug. 28 -- the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech.

I am flabberghasted....

HOW CAN ANYONE VOTE FOR THIS GUY????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UNBELIEVABLE!!!

He always does his MASSIVE FLIP-FLOPS on a FRIDAY going into the weekend thinking Americans will forget about it. He did this before with his backing out of public financing and Iraq war stance.

He saw the polls are dead-locked so now is conducting this rediculous FLIP-FLOP!

If you're an Obama supporter, it's really time to get off the bandwagon. This guy is no good.

Funny - he's doing what my signature suggests!

I think he was worried that there would be no recess or there would be a vote for the drilling, and he would have to play sides...

See jetxnet, THESE ARE THE ISSUES you should be bringing up and researching to death.... Figure out how to make them as catchy as the crap talk radio brings up. This stuff is the TRUTH.

Well, at least they used the term "shift" rather than "flip flop"
So what if he is having second thoughts??? Any good politician should be like that. They say no to something...the people cry foul...the politician changes his/her/it's stance to appease the people who elected them into office...REMEMBER, these politicians are here to serve US not THEMSELVES! Although it is rarely that way

DAMN...I just invested in a Tire Pressure Gauge because Lord Obama said low tire pressure was the cause of high gas prices.

Note to Lord Obama....if you are right in the first place....you never have to flip flop. That is going to be tough on him because he is seldom right on anything.

Oh yeah, it's the truth but Obama supporters forget it as quickly as when they see it. That's the problem, they don't pay attention to facts and figures, only the "Hope, Change and Unity" Mantra.

Alot of my posts are insight into his true character, because it's his character and beliefs that determine his decisions.

He cannot be trusted and this, yet again, proves this fact.

You'll hear how some Obamatrons are "disappointed" but then make excuses that it is for the best.

Trying to convince a strong Obama supporter that he's no good is like trying to convince an abused house-wive to leave her abusive Husband. It would take something drastic.

So your response to this issue is to tell me what I already said you would?

Care to retry? There are some things that you can't flip flop on. Not when the supposed heart of this issue is environmentalism. How can you even suggest that?

Obama is a lying opportunity seeking elitist. Get over it.

Well, how can you say he is a liar? he hasn't gotten into office YET! But I am certain that he IS a man of his word! He has given NO REASON to believe otherwise!

You beat me to it. Maybe we can get behind a comprehensive package of offshore drilling and tire inflation. The line he had on tire inflation was just ridiculously dumb-headed. Yeah, I will save the $20 per gas tank by checking the ole tire pressure once a week.

How can you say is not a liar??

Firmly opposed Patriot Act -FLIP-FLOPPED - voted for Patriot Act
Supported Public Financing-FLIP-FLOPPED - and backed out
Opposed Iraq War .......... -FLIP-FLOPPED - and now supports it
Opposed striking Iran .... -FLIP-FLOPPED - and now supports it
Opposed Offshore drilling. -FLIP-FLOPPED - and now supports it

There are more than those mentioned above, but these are some of the major issues and stances.

Are you joking?
Are all of you doing this as a sick little joke to pass the time?
Obama does not believe in change, unless it is to change his mind! He doesn't need to be in office for these position changes to matter. Or did you forget that he is a voting senator?
oh! And don't forget the recent telecom immunity!

Serously, what's wrong with you people?!

Changing your stance is NOT lying! PERIOD! His constituents told him how they felt and he LISTENED! PERIOD! What would you think if one of YOUR elected officials voted against YOUR (and the majority of the constituents) stance on an issue? Would you be angry that YOUR elected official did not listen to the majority of the people? Or would you stand proud knowing that YOUR politician stood his ground, despite the wish of the majority?

Properly inflated tires do ensure better gas mileage. It's a FACT! It is something that everyone could easily do and should do (it will make your tires last longer too). Don't knock it just because you may be too lazy to check your tire pressure while pumping the $4/gallon (Thank you GWB & the republican party) gas!

so voting democrats want to expand offshore drilling?
Or just the middle ground voters Obama has not locked up yet?

I KNOW a lot of dens here in Cali. After all, the modern anti drilling movement was founded here in Santa barbara, so I know the core issues behind their movement. Gas prices don't change their minds, and they are his main supporters.

He is trolling for votes, and using his "values" as chum.

Ahhh...so he is being a TRUE politician then...I can't think of ONE SINGLE politician that has EVER ran for office that did not make these kinds of "SHIFTS" in their platforms to try to pull the "swing votes" their direction. Nor can I think of a single candidate that did EVERYTHING they said they would do once they got voted into office.

I said this in another thread about this, may as well say it here...

He is a politician, pandering is required in that role.

People, you can bitch about Obama all you want, but remember the fact that the only other viable choice we have is McCain.

Some choice eh?

The United States of America is F'd either way.

An already indecisive congress awaits which ever of these two boneheads wins the election.

Mud slinging will make no difference, you can bring one down and elect the other... and what the hell have you accomplished?

I can't think of a single one that has made these kinds of shifts. We are not talking about small flip-flops here. Obama makes John Kerry look stable.

These are massive flip-flops that very few, if any, other Presidential Candidates have made in the past.

Please enlighten us with some equivalent large issue flip-flops by other past Candidates.

Keep in mind, Obama has at least five MAJOR flip-flops now.

so who is lying to? The libs or the centrists? You can't have it both ways my friend, and you even admit, like BH does, that it is by any means neccesary, right?
So tell me, what really is his stance?
Or can you even tell anymore?
