I know that I may be nitpicking, but what they said was "followed it", not chased, and although English is not my mother tongue I think there is a difference.

Locals have started speaking, it seems..
From www.walesonline.co.uk...

But Terry Phillips, a neighbourhood watch coordinator, who contacted 101 about the sighting, said there was no doubt in his mind that the sighting was an alien from another world.

......snipped

MoD community relations officer for Wales, Peter Sinclair, said he was baffled by the incident.

“Nobody from the MoD was at the base at the time it happened,” he said.

“We couldn’t find any information about it. I would really like to know the truth of the story.”

.....snipped

South Wales Police Control Room Inspector Ann Johnson confirmed the air support unit had spotted an unusual aircraft.

“This was reported to the relevant authority,” she said.

So names are appearing which means this thing must be taken seriously.

Just some snippets from the BBC.

The helicopter was above St Athan, which is home to an RAF base and close to Cardiff International Airport.

But three-man crew could not capture any images before the object vanished over the Bristol Channel on 8 June.

South Wales Police said the helicopter did not give chase and described the crew as very experienced. The sighting has been reported for investigation.

A police spokesperson said: "The crew are very experienced and responded in a professional manner in relation to what they saw.

"In today's skies, there are a wide variety of aircrafts which come in a range of different shapes and sizes and in all probability, this sighting has just confirmed that one of these was in the area at the relevant time," the spokesperson added.

A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said it had heard nothing about the incident.

Meanwhile, a Cardiff pensioner says he also saw something "peculiar with lots of flashing lights" on the same day.

George Withrington, of St Mellons, said he reported the sighting to police and was given an incident number.

The ex-RAF glider pilot said he was sitting in his garden reading a book on 8 June when he spotted the object at around 1620hrs.

"I was looking at an aeroplane overhead when I spotted this thing was in the corner of my eye.

"It shifted direction very quickly, in the blink of an eye.

"I looked at it for quite a while, I was watching it for at least 10 minutes. It flew off towards the east, towards Newport."

So...if you saw a UFO closing in on you at a high speed, would you have the fortuitous ability to move out of the way, or would you soil yourself, and take the hit...

Actually I would like to hear actual accounts from the members of the police crew, other than they would be dead if they had not moved...I doubt we'll ever get their description though...

Many UFO chases follow similar patterns. They will sort of mock the chasers, staying just out of range, or zooming off and stopping when jets get close

All police choppers have cameras, without the traditional Out-Of-Focus
pictures it's just hear say. No proof of event ever happening or even if the
people actually exist. It's just a story, there's not even anything to
debunk.

BBC reported it on their national Ceefax service yesterday. This is the governments own propaganda channel that usually leaves any mention of ufos to the independents. Then again the BBC did have the Ministry of Defence on in June 2006 admitting that UAPs exist and are a plasma type thing. I was quite struck by this as it was the leading headline on a Monday morning, step by step disclosure maybe?

Here is the Swedish newspaper "Aftonbladet" reporting the story on the web today (21st). They have their own illustration of the sighting:

www.aftonbladet.se...

There is no ridicule or jokes in the short article, just a report of the sighting. Great, I think.

The poll in the end of the article reads: "Do you believe in UFOs". Right now it's Yes (62.1 %) No (37.9 %) ...

Oh yeah that pics cool, good to see the Swedes have an open press concerning ufos. Do you get many reports in Sweden regarding ufos? Are they seen in your north which seems very remote? I follow those in Hasselden in Norway very similar o ones around here in Stoke on Trent.

The Swedish media do report on UFOs from time to time. I can write a lot about the UFO subject in Sweden but that's a bit off topic to this thread. I promise to return to it in a later thread.

I think sightings which emanate from military environments are especially interesting. As is those from pilots and the police. I think (but please note: I do not know) the risk is far greater for these men and women to have their life altered in a negative way (loss of job, ridicule, harrassments) than for the average person with a (video)camera. I believe any UFO sighting that goes public from these military/pilot/police-environments is - and should initially be - of great interest.

HI, been following this board with some interest for some time but have never posted.

I live near Cardiff and it seems to me that there is some weirdness going on around here. My mate works for the police previously a cop but now in another department, both of us have been watching the skies for quite a while mostly in concern with what seems to be the sudden and excessive appearances of sky blanketing contrails.

We were discussing this Police chase UFO over Cardiff report last night, and it seems that there are a couple of versions of this event being reported, from what I can see some type of denial.

I asked my mate why the police would on one hand claim to have pursued the UFO then on the other deny it and with all the amazing gadgetry on board the helicopter why not record the event.

According to him, if the police offically record a pursuit be it in the air or on the ground they have to file a full report which would have to be investgated fully and available for public scruitiny.

Some of the other weirdness going on -
back last summer I was on a camping trip near the airbase where this event took place. I was on my bike following the cliff tops on a very clear warm morning mentallt noting that there were no contrails begining to blanket she skies to spoil the day with haze again, even though this was near the airport and the military air base.

I spotted in the sky a silver object, allthough I couldnt figure out (it appeared to be the size of my fist from where I was) what shape it was I got the definate impression of it being angular and box like. I only saw this thing for a second or 2 as it just winked out like a light going off.
I know this could have been anything but it was most definately not an ordinary aircraft.

Recently my mate came over one evening to show me what he'd fikmed on his mobile phone. He lives on a hilltop not far from cardiff. One early evening he'd gone outside because there was a very large helictopter very low to the ground hovering around the hill top within feet of his house. He'd had the impression the occupants were looking for something on the ground and it was definately not a police helicopter (he is the ex cop), prior to him going outside he'd been on the pc and his connection played up the completely shut down. He'd tried to call me on his mobile to tell me about this but couldnt get connected. He then tried to film the evet on his mobile and said the man in the helicopter was watching him focus the camera at them as they were that close.
I have seen what he managed to capture on his phone and it is quite bizarre. allthough you can only decern the lights and noise because of the lack of light he'd somehowe recorded more than what he saw with his eyes.
The video shows the lights and sound of what is obviously a very near helicopter hovering around in the dark, but there is in our opinnion a most definate droning noise in the background. Then suddenly from above and to the side of the helicopter appears 3 lights in a triangle shape heading down directly toward the chopper which was no more than the height of a house off the ground and they then dissappear . My mate is quite adamant that there was definately no other craft there only the chopper but this other vehicle is definately on the video.
I have another mate who lives within 2 miles of this area who has seen 3 lights in triangular formation hovering over the area and just suddenly dissappearing, all he could say was, that whatever it was it was huge.

weird

Here is the link to The Sun

UFO sightings over Wales..

HUNDREDS of UFO sightings over Wales were reported yesterday after a mystery craft threatened a police helicopter.

A little bit over the top if you ask me...

Dawn Williams, 45, feared an Independence Day-style alien invasion when she spotted a sinister shape in the sky above Aberdare Country Park hours earlier, on June 8.

Well, actually they have in a fashion. In the Radio Five news report I heard they played the voice of one of the crew describing what happened but distorted his voice so his identity is concealed.
