First off as a member of the Vancouver 3rd Ward I did not hear about that. And since any message sent out by the Prophet Thomas Spencer Monson is to all the members of the church, it would have been read out by the Presiding Bishop during Sacrament Meeting. Secondly my parents are member of the Coquitlam ward and they did not here anything either. So are you implying a major church conspiracy.
And I never heard about the White City Prophecy so explain in great detail so I know you actually know what you are talking about.

I have received new information. The memo that was read to us in Sacrament meeting came from our Stake President and not Utah. It seems our Stake President feels it necessary for us to have the 72hr kit ready by July 1st.

Well I'm glad I wasted all that hot air on something one person in your church said. Maybe next time you can check your facts a little more thoroughly before you come on here trying to scare us with some supposed top secret Mormon church information. Shame on you!

The thread heped me figure out if it was church wide or not. As it stands it still emcompasses two states, Mississipi and Louisana. That involves thousands of church member.

Well not to worry, if you are LDS you will already have a good stock prepared in the event of anything that may come our way.

It never hurts to be prepared. I am glad the Mormon Church Is trying to help I just hope the flock isn't wasting their money on premade 72hr kits as a previous poster mentioned. What are you supposed to do with a dozen used water pouches?

No, attacking someones faith is NOT the same as attacking their race or gender. You are stuck with your race and gender. You do not choose it, it does not reflect on your judgment or your personal opinions. Religions are choices. You may grow up indoctrinated in one faith or another, but as an adult you choose to stay, you choose what you believe. Your religion DOES make a statement about your judgment, your personal opinions.

Last time I checked, some religions treat certain genders, and even races, differently. They hold them to have inherently less value.

When in America have we ever held cults such as the Moonies, or the Hale-Bopp cults and some of the other Waaaaaaaaay out there groups sacred and beyond reproach? I dont think we ever have. Surely you must realize that some people find a religion originally read out of a hat that claims Native Americans are of Jewish origin not much more mainstream than those waiting for a comet to take them to paradise.

The difference between a "cult" and a "sacred tradition" is only ones point of view. I see tons of adherents to "mainstream" religions happily bashing on the "New Age" and "Pagan" spiritual traditions. The members of those groups hold their own beliefs as sacred as you do yours.

I am curious, however, as to why the LDS would all of a sudden be pushing for 72 hour packs. If it were a collapse of society in general issue, they would be pushing the one year supply thing. I suspect they are anticipating more raids in the wake of the Texas one, or like another poster pointed out, more mundanely it is simply preparation for hurricane season in some areas.

Indeed. I just use regular Desani water bottles, they'll keep forever.

I think the point some were trying to make is that the arguments pro or con religion have nothing at all to do with the subject of this thread. Most people on ATS seem to do a good job of keeping to the debate threads if they want to have a debate, but taking it to a thread like this that has nothing to do with that is against the rules and annoying. We all have to remember that we can choose which threads we read and reply to.

I still think this is an interesting thread, even if the "warning" turned out to be regional. Perhaps the other poster was right in saying it may have to do with hurricane season.

I am not Mormon, however their call to prepare is interesting.

I have been intuitively sensing the need to stock up lately on some staples and water, moreso than usual. I do not intend to live fearfully, however I do want to make certain I am prepared.

I do admire their emergency preparedness. As everyone should have a kit. If there ever was an example of a people not being able to rely upon their government for disaster help, (in the U.S.) it would be the Katrina victims.

If I can help it, I will never be that person stuck in a superdome at the mercy of those who have the food, shelter, water, and...security.

i'm a member and i live way over in vegas and i have not caught word of this July 1st deadline. But that isn't a surprise to me, i didn't attend church that Sunday. I will however ask my Bishop tomorrow about it, i'm interested who the memo is directed toward. Even if it wasn't read in Sacrament Meeting over here doesn't mean it's not important.

I would like to ask stikkinikki's offense remark (i think everyone knows which one that is) to be either edited or removed. That was off topic and offense.

And to the remark about that memo being borderline terrorism...woah. haha that was incredibly stupid. Did it ever occur to the person who said that that they don't entirely know why a 72 hour kit is needed. Maybe the First Presidency (that's who said it right? remember i have yet to hear about it in Vegas) only know that something disatrous this way comes and don't know in what way it is.

Think of it as how Glenn Beck (LDS) is handling the nation's economy i guess. He's trying to get all his viewers prepared for the seemingly unknown disasters of a failed economy that has high chances of rocketing towards the US. (I say seemingly only cause we can predict what can happen but it's not set in stone).

BUt maybe Glenn Beck isn't a truely great example.

I would like it if the offensive remark were removed as well. I'm pagan, however I still don't care to read such puerile commentary.

Thanks!

I was stationed with a Mormon while the military. He was from Utah, served as a two-year missionary in France, and was sanctuary approved with that one piece, buttons on the back side, underwear. He was a great guy and certainly not a wacko. From him I first learned of the one year supply of food that all Mormons were told to build.

Since then I have acquired a booklet that the LDS puts out telling what is needed. I actually never read it, but it shows the seriousness of the issue for them.

I put together what I thought was a good one year supply about three years ago. For the last 3 months I have been working real hard at trying to consume the can goods that have reached their 'use by date.' I was aware of rotation, but I just did not use that much can goods because I preferred fresh for daily consumption. So you have to pay attention.

Water is the greatest concern in my mind. I was storing about 150 gallons in those four or five gallon resin containers. I have worked on this for several years now and each year I learn I have to reduce the quantity I store in each container since it freezes and breaks open the containers in winter. I also put about a ¼ cup bleach in each container, but still green fungi or something like that will show up. I thoroughly clean the containers but it is a problem. I have a 55-gallon drum, but I am not certain that it was safe since I bought it from a rural farm supply that sells them used. I am not at all certain that if I filled it with water that it would not also freeze and burst during winter. I keep it to gather rainwater in if needed.

I also maintain at least two months supply of toilet tissue. I think Water and toilet tissue are probably two very easily overlooked supplies.

Besides everything mention already, I think dry good legumes and peanut butter are two great basics. When they recalled peanut butter last year I turned at least 20-lb’s of the stuff back to the store and now only have a few pounds on stock.

I always think of the story about the two friends camping in the woods. Each night Joe would put on his tennis shoes and tie them tight before going to bed. His friend Mike asked Joe why he always wore his shoes to bed. Joe said there are bears in these woods and I want to be ready to run if necessary. Mike laughed and said, “You can’t outrun a bear.” Joe replied, “Mike, I don’t need to outrun the bear, I only need to outrun you.”

In a true, natural, global crisis where massive numbers of people are trapped in place, in short order many people will die. Imagine Katrina but worse, say a Super Volcano, like Yellowstone, erupting, the Big Quake striking the West Coast, a Nuclear War, or a major asteroid hit, and we have Katrina in multiples and probably affecting the entire globe. Many will die due to food shortages and or medical needs within the first two or three months. After that there will be massive scavenging going on; it won’t be pretty.

I come from some very SERIOUS Mormon stock...........the LDS church still holds my records and counts me as a member.
I call myself a Pagan but I am telling you the survivalist mentality I was raised with is very STRONG in me.......
Because of this very thread, today I went to this place called Recreational Outlet and bought 2 large duffles as BOB's for my son and I. I am always planning to 'do this' but the time has come to NOT put this off anymore.
I looked at water purifiers while I was there and got schooled in them. Looks like I can have a good set up for 100 dollars that will do 1500 gallons.....I have the cool no batteries needed flashlights. I have tarps.....
I have a good supply of awesome camping gear that can double as the emergency gear.
Now that I have got our designated BOB's we are going to get it together. I cant afford the water purifier yet, but here are lots of things I allready have that need to get organised and placed in the new BOB's.

No more...'gunna get this done soon'.....its gunna
happen within the week.
Some very good threads on stocking the BOB right here on ATS.

EDIT: to add.... that I have now done 5 on site searches and come up EMPTY. Is it just ME the onsite search function NEVER friggen works for?
I am using key words:
bug out bag
BOB
72 hour kits
emergency kit
emergency bag
every single one of those searches told me the SAME thing......that search does not match anything found an ATS please make sure your spelling is correct......
the ATS search function sucks the big fat one.

In 4 YEARS it has only worked ONCE for me and that was only because I knew the EXACT thread name......

"I have been hearing a lot of rumors about August-November of 2008. Of course, I come across a lot of dates to watch for on ATS. You never know though. What is really curious to me, is the 72 hr kit. I would think a years supply of food/water would be the focus for most kinds of disasters if they are large scale in nature. Perhaps there is some rumor of something smaller-scale drifting around. "

You are really close here prehaps I could fill some blanks and then add some: Please forgive the Missspelled words...

Hope you can read between the lines; The Mormon's are recruited by many different intellegnce agencies, Why because they have no record, spend two years in a social role interacting with people all over the world. They Dont use Drugs. So many Mormons work for the FBI, CIA etc. And yes prehaps they might have some intelligent circled with valid information that something is comming down the pike. Do you think they might send out a memo saying "Terrorist factions in the mid east have purchased from unknown Russian sources three major biological agents to effect a tri-attack senerio across major US cities......" The Tri attack is where you hit the target with at least 3 viraul agents in a major populated area in order to over whelm your opponants respose agency's, IE Center for dieses control and local Bio reponse agencies. (Oh my need I go on) No they might know something like this is going to happen, so they put out a church memo, something that the every day joe might not get. But us Mormans, well we read between the lines, when the church speaks we listen. We know what they mean, and no it is not fear factor tactics. It is Prepare. Simply put we should prepare (Good Advice). What side do you want to be on... Something major goes down and you cant go to the store, there is virus in the air, people dropping like flies in a bug trap, you would endanger your family by just going outside. So would you be on the side of the prepared or the side of dropping like flies? Easy choice, only now it is getting somewhat harder to prepare, Dont you think? Money is getting tighter, Food rations, and food riots across the globe (they Blame us here in the good ole USA) it all starts small and maybe never goes no where, but if it does.... Its the little things I appreciate, I love the smell of unsuredness. Yes August thru November interesting they almost have it down to a date Hmmm I vote for Augest 21 sounds good anyways. I have probably said more then I should, one can get in trouble for that you know. One might think that the 72 hour kit is complimentry to the year supply of food and water also the Garnades , Guns and ammo come in handy to protect ones food, family etc. Although you wont hear that from a Mormon is kind of an unspoken law, read netween the lines law IE "Be PREPARED" means Guns and Ammo. You still don't get it well thats good.

Some have a special gift to see the future, its called profecy kind of like this it comes as a rant, dont always make sense-

These views are not the views of others any interpretation is for gone and not the views of Brothers. A word is spoken but none can hear , time so spent time so dear. Many fall at the gates, it time my dear don't be late. Heavens Charitots blaze fire thru the skies it time my dear its time to die. Your ready, your not its all in vien time of lot, These days we lone these days we pay. Ring around your rosie wit5h pockets full of poise, ashes ashes we all fall DOWN..... The Government has its Bunkers time to dig time to hide, when it goes down others follow and the virus spreads, seeds of pain many others dead. It was gave to us by those we trusted another day we were busted, to population they grew smaller from the top we can holler. Yell and shout your words of pain none hears them no ones sane.

May I suggest you send an 'Alert" about the post in question? That is the way to be sure to get a mod or admins attention and discussion on the matter as far as rules and whatnot.

I have a feeling it was my post which you have described as "purile". Consider it a satiric commentary on the intrinsic nature of blind faith and puzzling traditions that emanate from state religions.
