The strangest anomaly I have encountered with Google Sky is the fact that people think that it is useful for anything even close to real research. Entertainment, maybe, but thinking you can look at Google Sky and do UFO research is displaying complete and total ignorance in my book. Those that know their butts from a hole in the ground know what I'm talking about. Those that don't...well the biggest problem with folks like that is that they don't know what they don't know if you know what I mean

Sorry to sound like some arrogant prick, I know I will get flamed from those that don't understand...but it is what it is. Coddling this kind of ignorance by giving it multi page threads with thousands of responses is only encouraging further ignorance. If your interest is peaked from something you see on Google Sky, then you should pursue it properly by....never mind. I'm wasting my breath on things like this around here.......

No Flame job here unless you'd like one - The only thing that ever burns my butt is a flame about 3' tall,lol.. Entertainment - were having some fun here along with figuring this out, so go get your yellow helmet and the yellow bus has shatter proof glass just for you... Plus these ARE images from OUTER SPACE!! why wouldn't you ?? If you have an opened mind then pry it apart and peer into it if not shut and move on....

I HOPE i know what you mean:
well, as i've stated before, this is not my cup of tea.

But i find that this thread may become useful especially if will be able to come across some explanations about the formation of such things, as it happened in the past with Clementine. Of course, if this becomes a compilation of "anomalies" then i don't see how it may help.
I find the excitement always positive, but if self-limited: in my humble opinion, all that we're seeing here is originated by some issue encountered during the development of the project, but i'd be interested in knowing exactly what.

If we don't discuss it, then we don't have many chances to find out more

I dont think anyone uses GS as a means of research...
but research is COMPLETELY different from stumbling across something unusual..
I, myself, would simply like to know what it is because it is unlike any other camera glitch I've seen...
Either way, I'll be more knowledgeable for it if we do find out what it is.
If not, then ok, nothing changes...

and yes, you sound very arrogant...

Yes I agree. It is great that you stumbled on something like this. This made many of us very curious to what the anomaly was. I am eager to find out explanation for this. In the meanwhile, Im having fun hunting for more on GS. No harm in doing this.

I found this video. Its the same anomaly as yours.

Wait a minute. Take a look at this video near the end it looks like a borg cube! Im curious as to what caused this. I am deaf so I can't hear what the person on video is saying. I'd like to know where that one is on GS.

Nice find,s&f.I am going to take the picture to my astronomy professor tonight and see what he thinks. Also is it possible that Google sky and Earth just put these "anomolies"in there for lke a game to generate attention?

Hey everyone. i had to register and reply to this thread. I have been a long time reader, but not a contributor. i build websites and studied Interactive Game Design and Multimedia and Industrial Design, and have extensive knowledge of graphics software such as photoshop, illustrator, maya, and many other 2d/3d software appz.

also, being a super big fan of googlesky for some time now, i have run across these, and they definitly caught my eye.

BUT

Yes they are only image artifacts. there are different kinds. reflections in the scope itself and streaks that show up looking like laser beams.

what you have found is the laser beam looking ones.

When they take the images from hubble and whatnot, they have to do so on a slow exposure (to get the brightest image possible). many times satellites and asteroids will pass infront of the scope and this is the streak you get. Its mearly a mess up. its not alien at all.

sorry for killin your buzz. besides if anything was truely amazing in anything google related, you would be sure that it would be erased before it made it to us. google is just as much a part of the gov as nasa and gm is. they dont want us having full access to anything either, even if they claim to.

also you cant see GRB (gamma ray burst) with your eyes. they dont show up like a laser beam like the HULK would have you beileve. and if you did see it, you are probably dead, becaise you just got zapped with immense radiation. not cool. so much for turning green and giving the military hell

Hey, you could be right. I could see how in these two anomalies we found could be made by a rotating asteroid going across in front of the camera. Looking at those images, I could see how likely that is. That would explain it going from bright light (green) to dark then back.
The green color could be a result of it being so close to the camera. Im no expert with cameras.

Here's an anomaly like Odessy's originally posted, and HotelRomeo's second find. It's in the same area of the sky. This one lacks vivid color, though:

Dec -14* 11' 47.00"
RA 13h 17m 54.00s

Or copy/paste this into GS search field:

13:17:54.00, -14:11:47.00

thanks for taking an interest everyone!
I think we can write this off as an asteroid, time exposure, or some sort of glitch.
not as fun as a UFO, but at least now we know.
I hope you all have fun exploring GS, since this thread seems to have nudged some people into downloading it!

good work people!
