Uh Oh, you're in trouble now!

Now that that's out of the way, in all seriousness, it's quite easy to accidentally click on a link, especially with so many people using notebook 'touchpads'.

Also, it's only a matter of time until the honeypot urls are found/leaked. After that, instead of people getting "Rick Rolled", people will be getting "FBI-Bustin'-Down-Your-Door Rolled". This is not a good solution for dealing with the issue of child pornography on the net.

Just because someone clicks on a child porn link does not mean they meant to.

It may sound like a good idea to begin with however how do you differentiate between a person who wanted to download the content or a person who might have 'antecedently' clicked on the link or by a freaky kid who wanted to watch child porn?:-)
The main question is however, is clicking on a link that does not lead to any Illegal content enough to warrent an arrest or does the fbi scan the suspects computer and only arrest him if such content is found?

You misread, I never claimed or IMPLIED you are/were/or advocated child abuse, that is called buying troubles. I said "it makes as much sence AS IF", wich is not the same. You MIGHT have a court case that I did impliey a soft bigatery of lowered expectations by questioning your knowledge of the definition of libritarian, but that wouldn't be very anarchist of you would it?
U2U sent to further discuss the subject not OT.

I can't spell but I do have 100% reading comprehension, a rare skill among even geniuoses. Please re-read what exactly I wrote: "Its makes as much sence AS IF you said your a child-rights advocate/ childmolester!" Please show where I claimed your were a molester.... In a u2u please.

"Deny ignorance" is a catchy phrase but it cuts both ways. This thread has become all personal attacks, and personal polotics, wich is what the enemies of liberty- namely the powers wich head the FBI- WANTS!

We as Americans (since this story happened in America, even though the ideals behind it apply to all people) must put aside our petty diffrences and agree our liberty is more precious than gold, more precious than peace, yes even more precious than life its self! OR, geuss what? The enemies of liberty WIN! Were as good as reptoid food here people!

How will you live in a Libertarian Socialist world with out the liberty to do so in the privacy of your own life there Lucid Lunacy? How will you be alowed to gather just compinsation without liberty ANOK? How will you keep your faith in government alive without liberty there Raist?

How will any of us get to post our thoughts here on ATS or any where without liberty? Lucid Lunacy up there thinks they have the right to freedom from slight of feelings, AKA political correctness, wich we all have too much of to stomach true gut-wrenching liberty!

There are 2 ways this is all gonna end, in liberty and love, or fear and tyranny. Take your pick now, cuz the teams are foriming already!

Well you nailed it!

We anarchists Love fear and especially TYRANNY! And loathe, absolutely loathe this liberty yuckiness you keep talking about. As a libertarian socialist I declare a jihad against personal liberty. eewwww, don't want none of that.

You just now in this thread even discovered that my political ideaology even existed!!

I have been reading political theory, especially on the libertarian and anarchism end, for years and years. Countless time spent on books and online sources and discussions with educated friends. Yet you already know enough on these political philosophies to continue to belittle and undermine me. Humble yourself.

As for the personal attack you threw at me. Let me give you an example I think you just might understand. Let's say you're heading and subheading read as such:

HellHound63s
Military Vet
Promoter of Liberty

And then I messaged you out of the blue saying "hey do you know being a US military vet and a supporter of liberty makes as much sense as being a child molestor!?"

**just wanted to add that I don't care if you can spell or not, and I agree you can have a great vocab, be really smart, and be a bad speller. This has nothing to do with spelling. When I mentioned the fact you mispelled libertarian so badly I was just trying to bring light to the irony of your accusation

I am trying to not be far off topic, but I thought this was kind of similar, with a kick of humor! My male poodle had been nuetered and I had never had a male before, so when I noticed what looked like his missing you- know-whats showing up in his upper belly , and his ho ha was all swollen and red, very irrated looking, I tried to call his vet, no answer. So I did what I could and hopped on the internet to search for answers to releive my poor little poodle! So I google : 'red, swollen, canine penis, scrotum misplaced', and whoa Nelly! I got pop ups from every beastiality site out there, along with a warning that I was searching for information of an illegal nature and that it had been reported and an investigation would follow! Wow! I turned my computer off! Poor dog was gonna have to wait till in the morning!

Also, did it say who, why or how this investigation would take place?

I said no such things, what did you base that on? You have absolutely no idea what I think and feel. Nor would you care or be open to hear it. You automatically, without talking to me prior, said my political belief made as much sense as child molestation. Please don't spread disinformation about me. I have done none of that to you.

It looked like a Microsoft warning, forgive my computer illiteracy, I just remember it looked quite official, and gave no option to explain myself! I actually don't even have that computer anymore, but I worried for months afte that someone was going to come knocking! I bring it up to show how easily someone can wind up on a site they never meant to see, wrong keywords and bam! You are looking at a donkey show and never paid a dollar!

This seam to me like the federal agents are trying to prosecute people for a crime they are about to commit, just like the case in "minority repot movie featuring Tom Cruise", if in the case they've got technology that can see people's future actions, and the agents couldn't take him to court over something that wasn't even there in the first place or even destroy his career or send he to prison. Just want you to see a different view.
Anyway that said, new to ATS and appreciate what you guy do here.

Well folks it looks like you better start documenting everytime you get redirected to a "questionable" site. The problem is some sites have rotating popups that can take you anywhere and then you are screwed. You have no proof where you came from and how you got there. I wouldn't put it past the FBI to use this to scare people away from sites like this. I know thay hate us ATS users.

The thing is I would not put it past the FBI or any law enforcement agency to plant evidence in your computer once they have it. When its in their hands what's to say they don't have a shadow element looking at the persons history and seeing they visit all of these ATS type sites and decide you need to go away...?

On another note I have also see chromatico on a few threads here. This person will take the other side of any argument and run with it no matter what. This person can not and will not accept reason on any topic.

Edit for typos...

I have posted on other threads how much i dislike paedophiles, i actually support that show "To Catch a Predator" as it caught the people who really were into this stuff.

The worrying part abut this is what if someone used a script to redirect someone to one of these links? For example i could write a small piece of code claiming to link to a picture of britney spears, someone would click it and be redirected to one of these sick links. What happens then?

What if someone uses a piece f trojan software on your computer, many of you may not be aware abut remote access software, this allows a user to control your compute as if they wer at your keyboard. I could open up your browser and click one of these links whlist you were making some coffee.

What abt kids exploring the internet for the first time? What if they accidentily found this site and clicked it? They would of course turn it off in disgust (i hope) but the damage is done.

What if someone has an open internet connection, i drive by with my laptop, access their internet and then use it to click one of these links. The IP of their service is logged and it would be hard to prove they didn't click it, if no cookies or history are found on the computer the FBI coud just claim the user cleared it securly.

This could be used to set up someone you don't like very much.

Sorry i don't like this method the FBI is using, the potential for abuse of the system is very real. Stick with the "To Ctch a Predator" programs, those were great and really catch the predatory paedophiles.

EDIT

Oh and what if someone searches for something inocent and it throw up this link? I have typed some seriously innocuous, innocent phrases into google only to be presented with some fetishes i would never have imagined existed.

This is not exactly the same thing but my Daughters School District is going to start random drug testing with parents consent. Some partents agree with this but I do not. I do not think that is what the school is for but I guess some parents are too lazy or just don't have the time to talk to their kids or see the changes to think something may be going on.

Link to discussion

Here is the rub... If you don't consent your child with no doubt be put on a "Big Brother" list. If you don't consent you must have "soemthing to hide." They will send out social services for an "in home visit."

This "link" the FBI has setup is just another one of those things that if you disagree with it you must have "something to hide." Be it true or not if you get redirected you are in a world of hurt and you have to spend thousandes proving you are innocent. That would be enough to drive someone over the edge that is truley innocent don't you think?

And when that person is proven inncocent but has lost everything what happens then? Are they made whole again? I think not. And that is where the "over the edge" thinking will come into play....

The more and more the "law" comes up with things to control us the more they will see fit to abuse this. Any hacker can get into pretty much any computer out there. Even the PRC is getting into our government computers.

What's to say the FBI or shadow people arent going to plant evidence against high profile targets? People that don't agree with the bankers but have power to make their voice heard... Spitzer is a good example but it seems he was doing the deed but once they lable you there is always those that will think its true anyway and refuse to do business with you.

Sites like this are in harms way because we question everything the government does. We will be the first to be weeded out when the crap does hit the fan.

Actually, no. I knew a literal tree-hugger actually. Actually two. Yes, they liked to have sex with trees, and involve trees in their direct relations to eachother.

EDIT to add: And the train one too actually. An ex of mine had a thing for trains, and always wanted to have sex with me while we were riding.

I have had my fascination/curiosity with porn. I attended a "fetish" ball at the Hollywood Athletic Club where people "presented" sex displays which included "mummification" where people get wrapped up like mummy's. One room this person was inside of a rubber duvet cover with a snorkel to breath and was writhing around (I still don't get what that was bout- it sure was strange to watch!). They also had these "little" girls dressed up like little girls- they were not midgets- these were actually women some over 30! They really did look like little girls. Then the weirdest thing I have ever seen was a video of a guy was tied up with chains, dressed in leather with a hood who had his penis hooked up to an actual dairy milking machine and it was played on the wall while naked women shot pool at a billiards table! Oh...I forgot... there was a room where people acted like horses while other people rode them- saddles and all.

Before viewing and of these staged sex exhibits- you were greeted by a person who explain what it was about the subculture and following. At the end of the exhibit this person would ask each person of their interest and if interested they offered free literature of how and who to contact.

After the "little girls" production I requested literature because I had trouble believing some of these girls were women. They had bios and families (some escort services) and it explained that this was a very big subculture and a way people could experience fantasies you couldn't dare do legally. My point is it was one of the most popular exhibits and no one during the presentation or discussions afterwards ever mentioned having sex with a real child and I did not see any freaky creepy molester types getting off- it wasn't like that.

All in all it was a pretty classy event. This entire show or ball was like a maze and you had to go through each exhibit to get to the end!

One thing I do to avoid clicking links that I don't want to click is keep the Status Bar of my browser viewable. It helps to minimize being redirected to sites that I don't want to visit. Many times the redirection URL appears along with the URL to the site that you want to visit. Copy and paste the link into the Location Bar, delete the redirection URL, and proceed directly to the site that you want to visit.

Having said that, I have clicked innumerable links through Google and have begun downloading stuff that I didn't mean to download. PDF and TXT files lead the list, but it has also happened with picture and video files as well. I just abort the download if I'm able to. Usually the files are so small that I can't respond in time. But if there exists such a thing as illegal links, then aborting a download doesn't even matter, the crime has already been committed.

However, there are tons of free porn sites on the web. And anybody who wishes to wage a war against porn, porn in general, could find those FBI links and redirect law abiding porn lovers to those illegal links and files. A law enforcement agency could do that on its own. Not that law enforcement agencies are so malicious that they would do such a thing. But one could. Especially since the FBI site doesn't necessarily have to record the referring site or search engine.

Far-fetched and unlikely? Probably. Still the risk exists.

Watch out for filesharers getting targeted with the same trickery. Sooner or later a site that seems to be a one-click site like RapidShare or Megaupload will appear, and it will be operated by the FBI. Maybe one already exists. Maybe the FBI will purchase RapidShare and not make a public announcement. Who knows? Seems like it's really easy to post a link to I Am Legend and have it lead to somewhere a Will Smith fan doesn't want to go.

Preventing and stopping child porn is something that has to be done. It should be done. But casting a net that anybody could fall in -- innocent or guilty, child or adult -- is not the best idea.

I must say that after reading the OP's article I am now thinking about changing the preferences of my browser and download manager so that it asks me what to do with every file type. I want convenience but I also want to limit my risk to exposure to illegal material. And because there is now such a thing as an illegal hyperlink, I hope that someone publishes a list of illegal sites and links to avoid. I'll use BlockSite to help ensure that my browser won't load such sites.
