Yeah 'China brought this upon themselves.' You said that twice. It still doesn't mean anything in the light of global politics.

But calling me moron one time is enough to warrant an ALERT. Take that garbage out of here

I get so tired of hearing the self serving, ignorant, anti-American garbage that comes from most of the people that visit this site, perhaps my initial post to you was a poor choice of words on my part, however, perhaps you could refute the points of my post, instead of ignoring them?

Okay folks, we have a good debate going here, and it is NOT a bashing US one. It's about the Olympics, sceduled to open in Beijing in less than 5 months.

So let's discuss that. Will the games be reduced, canceled, moved or what?

If such something should happen, how will China react?

To me it all resembles the fable of Esop about the oak tree and the grass leave. It won't be the first time that pride would be the cause of downfall.

Calm down pal. It's not anti-American to state the obvious: boycotting the Olympics and starting trouble with China is not a good idea. It may sound gung-ho and Mr. Action America to you or others - but this is global politics. In reality, it is not our job to shut down the olympics and start a whole political mess with China because we disagree with the situation in Tibet...

The Olympics are not being boycotted solely because of the Tibet crisis.

If you want a list...

A). Darfur genocide - The Chinese are trading oil for guns with Sudanese rebels and their government counterparts. The genocide is continuing because of their support.

China and Darfur - the Genocide Olympics?

B). Pre-Olympic roundup of dissenters and peasants in the "Olympic zone" - Anyone speaking out against the Communist government has been silenced. People living in the area surrounding the stadium and fields were evicted from their homes for construction to begin.

Before Olympic Games, China quells dissent

C). Their handling of the Tibet situation

Chinese security forces swarm Tibet

D). Their treatment of the environment

What the news doesn't tell you is that China buys our garbage and sells their "cheap goods" back to us for premium prices.

I don't foresee the Olympic games being moved or cancelled. Will they be "reduced" or boycotted by major players? It is quite possible. I personally would love to see the US and EU boycott the games this year, but we'll see what happens.

China will probably boycott US goods, although we buy more Chinese products than they buy US products.

It may hurt the Western economies. That may be too bad.

Maybe instead of relying on foreign goods for our basic needs, countries across the world should produce it for themselves.

I mean [Snip] , we buy food. FOOD from China. The food travels thousands of miles before it gets here. Talk about costly and unsustainable.

I would like to see a boycott. If our economy goes sour (worse then it is) because of it, so be it. China will go down with us.

Maybe then, the American way will come back. Maybe then we will start manufacturing to take care of our own needs. We have become to dependent on others, when we were perfectly fine being self sufficient. If it takes another depression, bring it on.

Manufacturing economy's are usually lower based economy's, the US has simply outgrown or matured past that point.

It does not matter. We need to be self sustainable. We should not be relying on everyone for everything when we can take care of it here at home.

We shouldn't boycott. We shouldn't provoke China.

If China decides to dump Americas debt we are screwed. Big time. If China went on an embargo with America our economy would be crushed.

We should not provoke China. Not over the olympics, not over Tibet... seriously... this is stupid.

The olympics going smoothly is something that makes the whole world feel at ease. If any conflicts arise concerning China and the Olympics I'm just gonna throw in the towel : it's all over.

Instead of aiming our political outrage at our own leaders we have people talking about provoking the red dragon. Seriously - think it through people.

1) [Snip] What as the USA to fear from a third rate power like PRC????
You are certainly nor American, we would destroy them without even breaking a sweat...that is if those commie cowards ever grew enough balls to provoke us!!!

2) The whole word feel at ease? Guess the thousands being killed, jailed and tortured by the PRC aren't part of your "world"...
If any conflict would even be able to break out PRC would just crawl into their rat hole, [Snip]

3) The "red-dragon"? More like the "paper-tiger"...

The USA should lead the world and let China hold the Olympic games alone, that way they could also get all that gold and silver that they had to spend to bribe the IOC with.

The USA should also kick the PRC from the World Trade Organization. Along with that boycott anything that the PRC are selling...

P.S.

We should, from now on, Provoke the PRC in any, and every, way possible!!!

Agree with most of what you said.

But no, Jimmy Carter is still the undisputed champion, not even Bush can be as bad, or stupid, as he was...though he does try hard...

Good for Germany...I was wondering when some countries would start linking the Tibet issue to the upcoming Olympics.

Sadly our own President has been completely silent on this issue. I think Nancy Pelosi is going to travel to Tibet this week to check out first hand what is going on and give the Chinese government a congressional backhand...for what it's worth.

Good post

Nancy Pelosi? Good, maybe the PRC goons will mistake her for a Tibetan...I'm an optimist.

We shouldn't Boycott? Or Provoke? What about them? Tainting our children's toys and the daily items we use?

That is our fault, better your fault, not the PRC's. I myself have never bought, consciously, anything "Made in China" or "Made in PRC". Suggest you people start doing the same.

Every time you buy something "Made in China" you are killing a job in the Western world, maybe the next one you kill is your own.

Boycott all chinese products!!!

That's a pretty shallow self serving motive.

USA and many western countries are screwed precisely because they allowed a flood of cheap imports from China and allowed domestic employment to be undercut by Chinese manufacturing.

Why do we allow free trade from a country that does not observe even basic human rights.

Are our own values paid for with blood in WW2 now just being pissed down the toilet for short term economic benefit ?

Obviously the people of China aren't getting the message and anything short of a war should be done to support the Tibetans.

Agree with almost everything except:

- Our debt, that they do own, as far as I'm concerned they'll never see a dollar of it.

- We got ourselves in this mess, by buying their #ty products, maybe it's time we get ourselves out and stop buying them.

- Short of a war? I'm dying to kick some chinese commie ass!

Great Post.

Noun: moron - A person of subnormal intelligence
Noun: Moron - A city in Argentina, to the west of Buenos Aires

Don't see the great garbage of using the language, lighten up...

At least he didn't call you Moron, a city in Argentina. In that case you would have a reason the be offended, since he would be wrong, you are not some small city in Argentina.

You just forgot to mention the fact that the city is so polluted many athletes, specially ones suffering from breathing problems, have already said they are considering not competing. China as assured that the air will be clean in time for the Olympics, guess how they will go about this task?

I did not intend to patronize anybody, I just didn't think there was any reason to consider the said word as an insult.

People aren't actually listening to me, they are reading what I am writing. And that was meat to be patronizing. Please stay on topic...
