After spending some time searching here at ATS and other websites. I think this might be the oldest UFO photo. this is a photograph of Mr. George Sutton, taken May 1932 at Paris, Ohio.

Do you have photos older than this? i'm really interested in ufology. show me where to start...

I think the first thing you might want to do is to decide whether or not you're going to be a gullible believer or a close-minded skeptic. That will determine how you approach all the UFO information from now on.

See, if you're a gullible believer, you'd see that this UFO is obviously pre-Photoshop, so the chances of it being faked are slim. You'd also note the similarity to Billy Meier's beamships, which adds further weight to it being real. That may be enough for you as a gullible believer to accept that it's really an alien UFO, and confirm your beliefs in ET life interacting with Earth. After all, nobody can prove that it's NOT an alien flying saucer!

Now, on the other hand, if you're a close-minded skeptic, you're going to note that this has already been analyzed and determined that it was probably an old-fashioned streetlight. It's old and out of focus so you don't see the wires suspending it across the street. Besides, there is no life anywhere else in the universe, so it's probably not going to ride in on a flying saucer like those photographed by that scam artist Billy Meier.

See how it works? Picking a side will save you a lot of effort later.

Otherwise, I believe there's a "UFO" photo taken sometime in the 1840s in France floating around out there somewhere. My memory escapes me.

I prefer common sense.

For example, I don't know of any street lights erected a hundred or more feet high

Well, it all depends on your perspective. Here's a photo of Main Street in Wadena, Minnesota in 1920. So this beats the above photo by 12 years.

OMFG!! There's a weird extraterrestrial UFO flying right over the center of town!!!

Anyway, OP, see what I mean about picking your side early? It saves so much time!

i can't find anything from 1840 but the oldest sighting i found was the 45,000 bc UFO like rock carvings in Hunan, China. but again, there's not a lot of info on this.
i haven't decided if i'm a gullible believer, or a close minded skeptic, mr. nuhop. maybe i don't need to, but i'm still here at ATS and i'm still waiting...

wow is that really 1920?

Maybe because they stopped to look at the UFO and wanted to get a picture of it. Why do you assume it should be centered on him?

First off centered on him is a bad photography no-no. Anyone that wishes to be a photographer first learns that.

Secondly it's not a picture of the person. It's a picture of the person and the disk. Just as if it were a picture of the person and MountWashington. It's unlikely the man would be centered.

Not fishy at all.

It's a well recorded fact that small towns use to string cables across buildings on main street for decorations. It's used in several movies. That's all that is going on in that picture. You crack me up.

if you look to the rigth of the photograph you can actually see the cable running across the building. Our Right over there >>>>>>>

Great picture! Awesome find. It doesn't seem like a hoax to me.

You ask "where to start?", but the "UFO" phonomena goes back past recorded (known) history.

There's more then photos. There's reports from well known and trusted figures in history. It reaches back to the cave paintings.

Honest...if I was the person taking the photo and saw this huge object I would focus the shot on the person and object.

Honestly that was the most dumb question. Probably the person taking it saw it? Ever think of that one?

[edit on 11-3-2008 by xweaponx]

Now there's no reason to be rude. As much as I've seen that's far from the "most dumb" question.

Actually it was quite a legal question in the context of not understanding the picture or photography.

Isn't it "funny" that common sense is used at everything but ufology? I would love to have you as my defense attorney when I get in trouble mate.
