Students attempt Citizens Arrest on Rove!

(CNN) — Former top Bush aide Karl Rove didn't get the friendliest of receptions at the University of Iowa Sunday, CNN affiliate KCRG reports.

Rove, who was paid $40,000 to speak at the University, was confronted with an at-times hostile crowd of 1,000, and was interrupted on several occasions.

At one point during the speech, Rove reportedly lashed out at some of the students, saying, "You got a chance to ask your questions later and make your stupid statements, let me make mine."

Police also were forced to remove two people after they tried to perform a citizen’s arrest on Rove for what they said were his crimes while a member of the Bush Administration.

At one point, a person asked Rove if he has ever shed a tear over the war in Iraq.

"I shed a lot of tears and I have been inspired by many of the people who feel their son or daughter should not have to die in vain," he replied.

Toward the end of the speech a member of the crowd yelled, "Can we have our $40,000 back?"

Rove replied, “No, you can't.”

YES!!! Although squelched by police, this is what it is going to take people! We are going to have to stand up to these thugs as a nation and let them know they are NOT above the law!! Kudos to those U of I students!!

Imagine they could have handed out a few tuitions at that cost . Sad . They could have had any crook off the street for 100$. Why pay this crook 40k ?

These Iowa students have my admiration, it's good to know that the Spirit of The Constitution is alive and well in Iowa, an excellent example set by courageous young people.

Well, props to the two students, too bad the rest of the room didn't come to their aid! I guess solving this peacefully by performing "a citizens' arrest" isn't going to work people. It's time to shoot to kill....start the revolt people!!! F U Bush and cronies, you Nazi scum.

Great post DD.

I really needed some good news today. It seems mine was not the only generation willing to risk something for personal liberty and freedom of expression.

I will attempt to identify and locate the two students and invite them to join ATS.

Assuming of course that they are not already members.

First point is.......it will make old Carl charge a little more for his next speech..lol

Second point is.....will any major news/media networks pick this one up.

No, this what "they" are going to do....

I bet ANYTHING, these students who tried to perform a citizens arrest of Rove were probably arrested. Now these students will have to get a lawyer, go to court, pay fines, pay court cost, etc etc etc. This will set an example to every person who saw it happen and it will teach them not to try it themselves unless they have plenty of cash to waste. This is how you control the population and teach them to simply accept what their government does.

How can you fight the government that is backed by police? They may not put half the population in a camp, but they don't have to. Just a few stuck in an already over crowded jail will do the trick to stop the rest of the population from rising up.

Bottom line is nothing will change until the people reach a point where they have no fear. No fear of police, jail, legal action. The people will have to reach a point where they have nothing to lose and by the time that happens, it will be too late.

They can always try and shoot the White House like that guy did back in the mid 90s.

I'm amazed there were only 1000 students in attendance. Maybe people will hear about it and whenever he speaks, more will attend just to be able to heckle him. Or, maybe other institutions will see how this went and not bother booking him. Now THAT might hurt him where he'll feel it..

Equally amazed only 2 tried to effect a citizen's arrest (I can't help but think of Gomer Pyle!)

I live in a college community and the apathy is disheartening. Most students are far more aware of the nights you can get beer for a nickle than they are of their disappearing rights.

No, McVay was a patsy the government led you to believe did that (singlehandedly other than one accomplice?). I don't see how a vigilante assasination attempt and government-assisted large scale attack are even close to the same thing?? Lee Harvey Oswald, Jim Jones, Ted Kaczynsk, David Koresh, Randall Weaver....

Bout time some of you Americans started standing up for yourselves. Well done guys on the citixens arrest try! Hopefully enough Americans will Rally together and go to the White House and arrest BUSH! And for those of you that think Hillary is much better check out youtube. Just type in what hilary doesn't want you to see. Very interesting. Great thread, Flagged and Starred. Americans, go ahead and arrest some more people. Show the bad eggs who is boss!
