I'm not saying that you didn't see what you saw, OP. I think maybe you were seeing a replay with time lapse, making the contrail seem to move
faster than it was. What I DO know about the U-2 and the SR-71 is that they fly above (as in above) contrail-producing altitudes and conditions once
the mission is underway. What I understand about Aurora (and Aurora derivatives) is that the engines burn with very little visible exhaust signature
and they fly mostly out of the atmosphere. Of course, I might just be full of shiite.
