Mel that is the basis of it boiled down and you know it.
Just he didn't give it the positive spin you would.

And then you quoted Tommy P.

You are on a roll my friend!

*edit to add:

May I counter with:

I'm running down a dream
Never would have come to me
Workin' on a mystery
Goin' where ever it leads

Another great one.
But I love Tool so I felt the need to use that which I did.

And they do address the whole issue head on and state their position on it, all the while making some damn good music.

Ah but if you are an atheist OR religious your not exactly following a mystery as you have already pretty much decided the right answer.

Tool is awesome. People whine that their songs are redundant, but that's what I like about them. I know I'm going to get a good intellectual song.

They tried to change their style on the last album, probably due to the whining, and I didn't like it nearly as much.

True! Luckily I'm agnostic, so I do neither. I just look for little bits of truth where I can find them

Tool rocks!

On Topic:

'There was a time that the pieces fit but I watched them fall away. Mildewed and smoldering... Disintegrating as it goes testing... Point the finger, blame the other, watch the temple topple over... Ive done the the math enough to know the dangers of a second guessing...'

Holy Testicle Tuesday, Batman! I think Tool wrote the song Schism about the theory of evolution.

How is it a non sequitur?

If your brain is an accidental occurrence of physics and chemistry, then why do you trust your thoughts to examine the laws of nature?

Where does the accidental come from? After 50 pages, has no-one suggested that evolution is actually non-random?

Anyway. Why a non-sequitor? Because it does not logically follow. Why must a god give us a rational mind? Indeed, in some instances the mind is not rational. That's why science is better than personal anecdote and experience.

If evolutionary processes are providing an organism with the optimal mechanisms to pass genes on for the next generation, it sort of makes sense to be able to determine threats and rewards in the environment, essentially the brain is part of a survival 'machine'. This requires the effective and efficient processing of environmental information. But it is much less than perfect.

In many ways, such evolutionary processes underpin the tendency to make false positive errors in the perception of agency and liking for promiscuous teleology. Thus, when we perceive something moving in a dark forest, it pays to view this as an agent, and respond like it is. If it isn't a threat, well we lose a bit of energy running or being vigilant in a F&F response; if it is an agent, but we ignore it, we might be bear-food.

The idea that evolution couldn't provide a degree of rational thinking is very Plantinga. And, indeed, there is good reason to not rely 100% on our senses, and use more objective methods - like science.

Yea I think its about the whole perceived science and spiritualism split and really kinda umm dunno a good word but I will say silly it is.

And jsut because I am a lyric posting mood.

Schism

I know the pieces fit cuz I watched them fall away
Mildewed and smoldering, fundamental differing,
Pure intention juxtaposed will set two lovers souls in motion
Disintegrating as it goes testing our communication
The light that fueled our fire then has burned a hole between us so
We cannot see to reach an end crippling our communication.

I know the pieces fit cuz I watched them tumble down
No fault, none to blame it doesnt mean I dont desire to
Point the finger, blame the other, watch the temple topple over.
To bring the pieces back together, rediscover communication.

The poetry that comes from the squaring off between,
And the circling is worth it.
Finding beauty in the dissonance.

There was a time that the pieces fit, but I watched them fall away.
Mildewed and smoldering, strangled by our coveting
Ive done the the math enough to know the dangers of a second guessing
Doomed to crumble unless we grow, and strengthen our communication

Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion

Between supposed lovers
Between supposed lovers.

Glad to be of service.

I just think it fits damn well to use the words of one atheist "Religion is D A N G E R O U S." Completely ignoring the fact that some great goods have also been accomplished in religion's name as well as bad. Like I said before blaming the concept rather than the people that do bad in a concept's name.

Of course, we all know the best Tool song for this thread:

Source

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this

Bullshoot three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless bleeping hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any bleeping time. Any bleeping day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your contract and
Fret for your car.

It's a
Bullshoot three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless bleeping hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any bleeping time. Any bleeping day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dip#s.

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will, cuz'
I sure could use a vacation from this

Stupid stuff
Silly stuff
Stupid stuff

One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.

Learn to swim
Learn to swim
Learn to swim

Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
Mom's comin' round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Learn to swim.

bleep L Ron Hubbard and
bleep all his clones.
bleep all those gun-toting
Hip gangster wannabes.

Learn to swim.

bleep retro anything.
bleep your tattoos.
bleep all you junkies and
bleep your short memory.

Learn to swim.

bleep smiley glad-hands
With hidden agendas.
bleep these dysfunctional,
Insecure actresses.

Learn to swim.

Cuz I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna watch it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.

Time to bring it down again.
Don't just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't
Welcome any change, my friend.

I wanna see it all come down.
suck it down.
flush ït down.

Edited to some bad words

"EvoLoLocopter" ha ha h a

Yeah, well, I made that for her because I think she is pretty damn sharp and has handled a lot of very tough questions here taking on 4-5 of you guys at a time all at once all throwing nothing but piss and vinegar. I know it was just facetious of you but I think one has to agree,, you may not be on the same side of the argument,, but you got to respect her for her work.

I know she's done a hell of a lot better then I would have.

Then again,, that's why I don't start threads.

Eh I look at "Armageddon" being more part of the cycle of life, death and rebirth on a larger scale. Not a ultimate end but just another turn on the wheel.

Besides destruction often helps life flourish.
Well after all the dying and etc.

Heh, tool sucks.

you such a dreamer
To put the world to rights?

I'll stay home forever
Where two and two always makes five

I'll lay down the tracks
Sandbag and hide

January has April's showers
And two and two always makes five

It's the devil's way now
There is no way out
You can scream and you can shout
It is too late now

Because!
You have not been
Payin' attention
Payin' attention
Payin' attention
Payin' attention
You have not be-en
Payin’ attention
Payin’ attention
Payin’ attention
Payin’ attention
you have not been
Payin’ attention
Payin’ attention
Payin’ attention
Payin’ attention
You have no-t been
Payin’ attention
Payin’ attention
Payin’ attention
Payin’ attention

I try to sing along
But the music's all wrong
'Cause I’m not
'Cause I’m not
I swat 'em like flies but like flies the buggers keep coming back and NOT
But I’m not
All hail to the thief
All hail to the thief
But I'm not
But I'm not
But I'm not
But I'm not
Don't question my authority or put me in the dock
'Cause I'm not
'Cause I'm not
Oh go and tell the king that the sky is falling in
When it's not
But it's not
But it's not
Maybe not
Maybe not

Guess thread's evolved into toolfest, ugh!
