reminds me of the grim reaper as well..

I would think its part of the heat shield maybe, that blew off b4 the parachute deployed, or the do-hickey that holds the parachute.. then blows off the chutes, so the thingy can inflate the big beach-ball thing-a-ma-bob , so the rover ( that's inside the bouncing inflatable rig, can be clear of getting all tangled up in the stuff.
Or, you found a "true" unknown" piece of hardware!!

Im sorry to be the one to do this but.....



I outlined what I think is the edge of a dune-type raised part of the ground.

The object in question is just a shadow from this thing protruding from the ground.

Haha. lol yea a was thinkin that too, didnt think it was that close though, thought the rover had travelled a lot further.

Saying that the side of this rock is another figure of some sort is about the equivalent of cloud watching. You can see lots of shapes in clouds if you look at them, some more evident than others. The truth is that it's just a cloud. Just as in the OP's image it's a plain rock.

Now that you had brought this image up. Now look like tar is shooting out of the ground, That might explaned why sand is being kick up. And why there is no skid mark.

Great find!1 as a photographer I have found a lot of great shadows but I tell man that's the shadow king and you just wasted 10 minutes of a bunch of peoples lives with it. A poke in the eye with a hot stick for you.DUHHHH
