Why do ATS Mods allow obviously blatant threads such as these on the site?

The threads where the OP submitts a BS topic and then doesn't bother to revisit to answer questions?

WHY HASN"T THIS THREAD BEEN CLOSED????

This video made the rounds on the blogs at the end of January. The Jawa Report has a great roundup of the debunking of this video.

Yes, I particulary liked his link to this:

We should all participate.

YOUTUBE SMACKDOWN HOW TO GUIDE

How to Flag (tag) a Video and Shut it DOWN!
Just follow these six easy steps!

1. Click on the first numbered video listed to the right.
2. If you see "Confirm Birth Date," click on it. This is your agreement that you are 18 or over.
3. When the video appears, STOP or PAUSE it a few seconds after it has launched if you don't want to watch. If you choose to watch, we can tell you that you need a strong stomach. These videos are offensive, graphic, and very upsetting to some.
4. Just below the video, click on "Flag". This will then open another view that gives you the option to "Select a Reason" as to why you are flagging this video.
5. Then click "Flag This Video" button to the right.
6. There will be an area now right under "Flag" that will then be highlighted saying "Thank you for sharing your concerns".

Congratulations! You have just flagged your first Internet Terrorist Video!

That's it!! Now, just click the back arrow to our site and notice the video you just flagged has changed color! It's a simple tool for visually seeing what you have or haven't done.

And please, if you would, go to the second video and repeat the same process as above until all videos are done!

We thank you! America thanks you! Our military thanks you!

I "alerted" the opening post of this to the mods. Doesn't look like they have checked it out yet.

I have 2 questions
1. How do we know this is a US soldier and not some clown pretending to be one?

2. Has this video been forwarded to the FBI and/or a Federal Prosecutor? Isn't it a crime to impersonate a US soldier?

My personal opinion is that this idiot is only a US soldier on XBOX Live.

Someone help me out here. The link to the debunk info offers dates and years. The alleged debunk comes into play most effectively on the last entry.
My understanding was an investigation originally started with the contractors. They got a slap and sent packing. Then the vids and pics were leaked. I assume that Congress got them first , they withheld the most damaging info ( per Congress) and the press got the balance. If this is correct, then the time frames do not let the drunk idiot off the hook.
To date, I don't think anyone knows if the tape is legit, or if people are still being tortured or not.
The thing I find most interesting is the link to slap down youtube vids that people don't like. I think it is especially disturbing that members of ATS would engage in this type of censorship. I thought that was the job of the mass media. You know, only let you see what they view as appropriate. It is 3AM,I am beat, so I am not actually certain if this makes any sense, but I think it might. Please feel free to correct any errors. Thanks

For what it's worth, you're making sense to me.

Here's where I'm coming from, in regards to some video smack-down; I'm glad to be able to go to that site and act on conscience. That's all.

Those videos I would censor....considering this is on open, PUBLIC viewing sites: videos depicting child abuse in any form, rapes, snuff, animal cruelty....and so forth ( acts that I deem as inhumane treatment manifested in any form).

What people do in the privacy of their own homes is none of my business, unless it involves one of the above atrocities.

Regarding soldiers and or faked portrayal of any military or LEO---I want the ability to give some smack down to "veiled" testimony and liars....Like the "unknown" soldier in the video we're chatting about. Bah! The last unknown soldier I paid attention to was at the laying of the wreath done in ceremony.

In the post 9/11 world I have VERY serious misgivings for cloaked, turbanned or other costumed testimony against honorable people/establishments. I know, I know.....there a few really bad apples, but that's not who I mean to defend.

If I have understood correctly the speaker in the youtube video has a lot of bad press. He can't be vetted. Actually there's lots going against his surreptitious testimony.

Anyways, I don't plan on punching any "block" buttons indiscriminately.

I do believe in freedom of speech just not slander and that's how I view this one particular video.

Thanks for listening to my rant

ENOUGH

If you can't debate the video in question, then don't post in this thread.

DEBATE THE POST AND NOT THE POSTER

If you have given your opinion, then fine.

ATS is an international board. What that means is that people from all over the world visit here and suprisingly not everyone sees this the same way

YOU may not agree with the sentiment of the OP, but that does NOT mean he does not have a right to express his opinion of the video in question.

If you think the video is rubbish, say so, and say why you think it. Then maybe we can have a reasoned discussion instead of a slanging match.

Courtesy is Mandatory - This is NOT debateable

Well, if this video was to whip up unrest, it did its job. Personally, I don't think it's real. I do know that our boy's over there are not as reserved about talking about killing people as some may think, at least the ones I know. It being on YouTube makes it about as credible as cracked-out bum with $100 in his pocket. Ever if it is true, people like that make their own prision.

In retrospect, I have to agree with you about this post being faked.

I have a problem with ATS ALLOWING this video in the first place...The video is obvioulsy meant to cause knee-jerk reactions among Americans that are patriotic. Some folks, like myself, are scrupoulous about our personal reputations....,, following in this vein we (me) loathe attempts to tear down our morale!

The mods here are, for the majority of the time, extremely fair. Just don't be calling other posters names like:

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

As you see, there are plenty of nationalists on this website.

They assume you are attacking them personally when they say US military.

We do some pretty bad things in Iraq. Face it, that's a fact.

Can this soldier speak for the whole military? No I don't think so.

Take a look at the history of this country. We love to invade other nations and then expect no repercussions. Well not this time.

We are to blame for the chaos in Iraq. Every single one of us. Most of us voted for Bush twice (how I don't know) and we got what we asked for: war.

manson,

apparently you struck a chord here so you're doing something right
.

People chill out. We're at war. We invaded a country and you think everyone in the world thinks its ok?

We bomb the crap out of Iraq and then think the people there love us.

What rock are you living under?

I appreciate your input here, biggiesmalls. Really

It's often hard to defend your country (whichever one you may be from) whilst dealing with the political baggage at home.

It's a terrible waste of energy...and the election is just beginning.

Anyways, I'm remorseful for having been baited.

Biggie....I take exception to your statement that Americans "Love" to attack other nations.

To me this can be deemed as an inciteful comment, at the least.

But I'm just not going to come to these threads because it's all propoganda to which I don't acsribe.

No hard feelings here.

Its a known fact that American soldiers are notorious for raping local women in a foreign country that they have occupied or visited. Rape cases, in Asia alone, have been reported against American soldiers since World War 2. And the numbers are nowhere near declining. In the Vietnam War, Vietnamese women, even children were raped and killed. Some are even referenced in films like PLATOON and CASUALTIES OF WAR. Today, there have been cases filed, a lot more go undocumented, in the Philippines, Japan, South Korea and Thailand. And of course theres Iraq and several cases of rape and murder. In the Philippines, four American marines were prosecuted, sentenced for taking turns raping a Filipina in a van which they rented. In February 2008 a Filipina was raped in Japan by an American soldier stationed in Okinawa. In 1995 after three US military personnel gang-raped a 12-year-old Japanese girl, setting in motion a process to reduce the number of troops on the small island. The list goes on and on, that no one can deny there’s an inherent sickness in the system of American troops occupying space in a foreign land. These are real cases. Americans can either be ignorant about it and snub it or face facts and do something about it. I wish some, I’m not expecting all, Americans would look at this from an outsider’s point of view, without bias and face facts. Conduct their own research and take an interest. Sympathize with the victims and their families. The pictures you see of American forces handing food and toys to local kids are meant for PR purposes. Of course in one way or the other, it’s gonna capture your heart. But there’s always the inconvenient truth when you delve in the US Army’s underbelly. If you scour the internet alone, history of cases of rape against American troops are abundant. British soldiers had their share of scandals but it would pale in comparison to the extent and frequency of human atrocities filed against American soldiers. The scary thing is, there are more cases that had gone undocumented therefore many American soldiers were never even convicted. That is why American troops are never always welcome to dock in foreign countries given their track record. There’s even a Filipino saying, translated to English, "Anywhere American troops go, are rape cases waiting to happen."

What are your thoughts on Blacks, Jews, Hispanics, Asians, etc...? You seem awfully good at stereotyping, so I'd love to hear some of your other views.
