US planes unleash 40,000 pounds of bombs in 10 minutes near Baghdad 10 Jan 2008 U.S. bombers and jet fighters have unleashed 40,000 pounds of explosives within 10 minutes on the southern outskirts of Baghdad, targeting what the military calls safe havens for al-Qaida in Iraq. The attack is part of Operation Phantom Phoenix, a campaign against al-Qaida civilians in Iraq that was launched Tuesday. The military says two B-1 bombers and four F-16 fighters dropped the bombs on 40 targets in Arab Jabour in 10 strikes.

Lets get the U.S. military to throw about 40,000 pounds of pillows. Kill them with kindness. Seriously people seem to get pissed off about dropping tons of bombs in an armed conflict. Wouldn't suprise me if people ask that the U.S. military to limit the magazine capacity to 5 instead of 30 rounds.

Why should I show concerned about insurgents getting blown up? I understand your feelings for insurgents' lives, but you need to get over it.

us planes unleash 40,000 pounds of bombs! Is that all? That's like a stroll in the park for the natives. Nothing more than a bit of drizzle.

First off I am against our occupation of Iraq, I think we have been there long enough and need to leave the mideast to fend for themselves.

However this is a double edged sword, if we sent troops in and suffered casualties on our side people would be crying about that. It is war and bad things happen in war, I dont like to think about people being killed over there on either side. But I would rather see them use what technology we have instead of sending ground troops in to be slaughtered.

It is a bad situation either way you look at it, and high time we get the hell out of there. But we wont, we will be fed the BS that, this is keeping us safe, we are fighting the good fight, all the while fighting an idea, fighting a boogy man that will never ever go away. I love this country with all my heart, but I loath the fools on the hill that run this government.

we should have done this in the beginning. i love the people in this country. I love people period. imo, the us is the focal point of much hatred from all points around the globe. we are being led to slaughter.

You make the grand assumption that these are bombs that only kill insurgents, do the US have bombs that are capable of making such judgement calls?

You should be concerned because this type of tactics is known to kill many innocent people, just because it's the easy way.

Know how to kill badguys? I would be open minded to your idea of such a weapon that can discriminate. Otherwise don't complain how the military should drop their bombs. Its not like 40,000 pounds of bombs just dropped right into the middle of Baghdad, because it didn't.

This is such a joke. It's pure genocide. "Insurgents" and "al qieda" are huge cop outs. The only thing that's there against us are native people who's lives have been ruined by our holier than thou meatheaded gi joes blowing up their homes and ramsacking what government they did have fir almost 5 years now. They aren't terrorists, most of them. You say that the Iraqis have the right to fight back, then the U.S. military AKA Fascist armies as you called it have the right to kill those that bring up arms. If you see the U.S. military killing insurgents aka Iraqis, don't cry or complain about it.

how much does your typical bomb weigh?
40,000 lbs sounds like alot...but well, if each bomb weight a thousand or so pounds, and the area was rather large, it really isn't alot is it??

and, ya, I'm wondering where they were at while the little iranian speedboats were harassing our ships. they could have at least made an appearance.

Some of us aren't sure who the Bad Guys are.

The majority of the Iraqi's did not want this war. They don't want us there and many of them ARE innocent of any crime.

I used to tell my 10 year old son after coming home w/teeth missing and black eyes the next time someone hits you "knock 'em down the first time" and they will think twice before doing it again. my point being, if you are going to wage war and fight knock the living daylights out in the beginning and quit slapping them around. it only serves to irritate and eventually they will snap and come at you w/ak47's.
