Well this is my first time in the paranormal section because I am bored at work and figured what the heck? I usually do not bother. Not really my thing

Then I saw this thread.

In 1995 I ran into a guy in downtown Orlando who grabbed me by my shoulder and asked me if I would still buy him "that " drink. I said "what?" He then went on to tell me that he was sorry he declined earlier and that he would love to take me up on the offer now, well I am straight so I said no, thanks. Maybe some other time. For the next 3 years I ran into people on a regular basis who insisted they had been out drinking with me or clubbing or dancing and they obviously were under the impression I was gay and I could get them coke. I am not and could not. So finally at work one day (I worked in Downtown Winter Park, a rather affluent area) a guy asked me in front of all my co-workers if I had been at Club Firestone the night before. Firestone is a part time gay club, maybe was full time I think. Anyway, he said I had given him a ride home a few weeks ago and we had bumped into each other last night and he wanted my phone number because he lost it. Well, I said "no it was not me but apparently I have a twin". I asked him what kind of car I had and he said it was a bright yellow Mazda. This was 1998 or 99 I think.

Well, in 2001 I was driving through north Miami on my way to Key West and there was this guy in a bright yellow sports car zooming in and out of traffic behind me. I had watched him in my rearview, (bright yellow cars zipping around the interstate and people honking and flashing their lights will get your attention even in the rearview) just as he was getting to a point where he was about to overtake me (I still think he was actually chasing me specifically) a U-haul truck on my left side changed lanes and the yellow mazda clipped him and just disentegrated. The body panels just peeled off the car and he spun off the side of the interstate. I was doing 85 and he was catching me like nobody's business. I slowed down when I saw it happen and many people stopped, from what I saw there was not much left off his car. It was completely clobbered. I go to my hotel in Key West and that night on the news, sure enough, a bright yellow Mazda RX-7 was smashed to bits on the Turn pike just north of Miami. The driver was from Sanford (North of Orlando on the St. John's river). No next of kin had yet to be notified.

Never heard or saw a thing about it again until a year ago. Some guy asked me if I used to drive a yellow RX-7.

I always thought it was strange...

The city I grew up in was pretty small, but we had two massive high schools, and when looking at my friends sisters year book there was a picture of a girl, whom we were all sure it was me, but she was in a palce I've never been, and with people I've never seen before, but wearing my same clothes, same glasses, and my hair colour and cut. Years later, I was working at a Deli nights, by myself and she and some of her friends came int o get sandwich meats. It was extremely weird, like, we didn't want to look at eachother, she moved to the outer part of the deli, by the door, and I rushed through the order, I've since moved away from there, and would not like to see her again.

I have a friend at my university who has a doppleganger at the same school, though in a differen't department. I always see the one I'm not friends with, and get confused everyday when he doesn't reciprocate my wave, to then realising it's not my friend. A few months ago I was in a cafe and my friendcame in, a half hour later so did his doppleganger. They saw eachother and bent in opposite ways so they would not see eachother.

I feel this is a common reaction, as poeple like looking in mirrors, but get really freaked out when they see thier reflection living and walking, like a doll coming to life. At least this was mine and my friends reaction.

I wouldn't want Brad Pitt to look at me, he might think I'm his doppelganger.

I am so sad that I ignored this thread and stopped posting in it. All of the replies that I have re-read tonight have been so damn intersting!! It may be because I'm slightly drunk right now, but I want to revive this thread and see if anyone else has other stories about their dopplegangers.

Personally, I've heard quite a few times from my friends that they've seen me walking around and it was quite "freaky". I even once got a text from a few of my friends in the same day asking if I was back in Canberra (I had moved to brisbane a couple of years earlier) because they had "seen me" walking around the shopping centre.

This situation, however, was easily explainable. It turns out it was just a tall, skinny guy (just like I am) who simply HAPPENED to walk like me and dress in a similar fashion. On closer inspection they all saw that it was major coincidence and he didn't actually look like me.

But that is the closest I have been to having a Doppleganger.

Also, just for the record, in my OP the word "doppleganger" was meant to be a euphamism for the word "doodle". It was meant to be funny and I hope at least a few of you picked up on that

Quite a few years ago, I had a friend I met on a weekly basis to tutor me for school and such. One day, on my way home, I saw a person who looked just like her - including the outfit. So I attempted to shout her name across the street to get her attention. Well, it turned out it wasn't her, and after an embarrassing moment, I apologized and went my way. :S

A week ago, I was in the city running some errands and at the train station, I saw someone who looked just like an online friend of mine. I knew it couldn't have been him since we both live in different countries. Well, a couple of days later, I told him that occurrence and he told me he saw "me" at his Uni the other day. Not only did we see each others' doppelganger, it also happened around the same time. :/

Now, having some experience with actors and auditioning, I can understand that there are people out there who bare a striking resemblance. But still, there are accounts of doppelganger sightings where the "double" even acts and dresses as the person in question. My theory (if you could call that) here is that we do have a soul twin; a soul that not only chooses a body with a similar genetic make-up, but also makes the same choices later in life in how to dress and act, hence inadvertedly confusing people to think that they are someone they know.

Another theory is that there are beings that can mimic us in shape, voice and behavior. Those beings, as I can only imagine, do research as the person they are imitating for who knows what reason.

About 3 years ago my best friend called me and left a message to the effect of " why were you skipping work and clubbing downtown?" in a joking manner of course. I called him back perplexed and told him I had been working, which I was, catching shoplifters at the mall. He then proceeded to tell me that as soon as they parked their car downtown to go to an Orlando Magic game they saw "me" and they called out to me by my nickname they gave me "Jumbo Shrimp" they said I turned to acknowledge them, smiled and nodded my head. Then they said I turned around and walked into a bar. they followed "me" to the bar and I was nowhere inside. It was weird becasue they described exactly what I was wearing that evening at work. A green Adidas shirt and black warmups. Still creeps me out. Not sure if this was my DG or maybe some sort of projection.

I have an online friend and we see "eachother" all the time! It's really quite strange. She's even sent me a picture of "me" and I truly did see the resemblence, but it was so obviously not me

Though, we were quite fond of eachother, so it is my opinion that we just happened to be thinking of one another quite a lot, so we started to see the other one everywhere we went. I saw her in so many different girls in my city, and not a week would go by where she wouldn't see me somewhere.

The mind is a strange, strange thing.

I have seen people around who I think look like me. Sometimes I spot someone and think, "woah, that guy looks like me...". It's really quite strange.

Anyway, keep up the awesome posts guys

Tinhatman.... that was an interesting story. Did you ever get to see a pic of the guy that died in the crash? Or, is there any way to look up any records on it now? Just curious, that is so strange.

I've been fascinated with dopplegangers since reading about them as a child.
I think dopplegangers are more than just someone who looks like you and not necessarily evil.

The story I remember reading had to do with a man who watched 'himself' go inside his house (be greeted by his wife or housekeeper) and walk upstairs. Unfortunately I can't remember what happened next but I think the house blew up or something and the idea was that this doppleganger seemed to save him from that fate.

Sorry about the sketchy details but the point I'm trying to make is that the doppleganger acted and was accepted AS him whereas a lot of the stories here have involved people having strong resemblances to others but living quite different lives. This is a feature I find extremely interesting but wonder if anyone has any more stories where dopplegangers acted/were the person in question.

I find the yellow RX-7 story very intriguing.

I try my hardest to not find my doppelganger and I know that its here in the city I live in. This city is the city of doppelgangers. Ive seen just about every friend I've ever had here(more then once Ive told friends "I saw your doppelganger the other day) and this has continued on for years. I've even seen my husband's doppelganger. Feel free to call me crazy but I am 100% convinced that portland oregon in the US. is doppelganger central. Just let me know what you look like, and I'll talk to your doppelganger for you ;-) (J/k)

My mum once saw the spitting image of her sister in another country.
What's remarkable about that is that my aunt is (or was at the time) such a striking beauty, quite extraordinary - and with a distinctive voice, to boot.

Not only did the other woman look so much like her that my mother thought it WAS her, but she had the same mannerisms and the same voice. Only, she spoke in a foreign language that my aunt didn't speak. And, of course, when her eyes met my mother's, the doppelgaenger showed no reaction.

Go figure...

I read its a bad omen and seeing one means death is near.

Another story is some kids saw the teacher moving and something behind him moved with him.. I don't remeber the rest of the story but...

Unreal..

That is an old idea; I think it would even be safe to call it a "superstition".

If you haven't seen Krzyzstof Kieslowski's film La Double vie de Veronique, do.
It deals precisely with that old idea, but in a very poetic and artistic way.

There's also a thread on Umberto I, the king of Italy, and his alleged "double" that you might find interesting.

Yep I have seen other peoples and my own. I had one lady one time ask me if I was in a certain area when I was completely somewhere else.

My little sister has seen me outside a house when she knew I was inside kind of blew her mind with that one. She kind of saw me in two places at once.

Dopplegangers are no stranger to me. I've seen several over the years, and I'll detail some of what I've observed or been told here.

My doppleganger first began to show up in the early 90s, probably back in 1992 if I recall. I was a year or so out of high school by that point. That was when people started hollering at me for not responding when they would wave or say hello out in public. Now I've had to learn to shut out the outside world at times to keep from being overwhelmed by the thoughts and emotions of large groups of passersby, so I chalked that up to me not paying attention to those people at the time. Not a big deal, right?

It got to be a bit more interesting when people began seeing me driving around my hometown, especially near my mother's home. The fun part of that was that I wasn't living in that town anymore, and I didn't have either a driver's license or access to any vehicle remotely resembling the black and red Chevy Blazer S-10 I was supposedly seen driving. I always thought the colors were interesting, because those are my favorite colors.

What made things more interesting was a night that I was stopped by police while walking along the road with a friend of mine. Someone matching our exact descriptions had just held up a local restaurant across town. Video footage was viewed by the officers and they immediately "knew" it was us apparently. Apparently the mannerisms and behavior of the criminals in question were close enough from the descriptions to make the officers on the scene want to see the tape to begin with though. According to the officers who came for us, they were dressed just as we were that night.

Luckily we also had video footage of us hanging out at the gas station/mini-mart down the street. That got us off the hook, but the officers who came for us knew us pretty well and recognized us immediately on both tapes. To the best of my knowledge, that case was never resolved.

I started to get curious at that point, but not long after, I moved away from the area altogether. I didn't give it much thought for a little while.

In '95 I was dating a girl who was living back in the area by my hometown, but I was living over an hour and a half away at that point, working nights in a warehouse. My girlfriend and her girlfriend went to a bar and ran into me shooting pool. I acknowledged them by name but was otherwise disinterested in talking with them. My girlfriend at the time was a witch and psychic and felt like something was wrong as soon as she saw me. Even before they approached me, she told her girlfriend to be careful. She knew I should be at work, two hours away, and immediately walked off to find a pay phone to page me. That was when people carried pagers instead of cell phones.

Sure enough, I was at work, driving a forklift that night. I got the page of the number of the pay phone she was at and her personal SOS code (4444) and hauled ass across the warehouse in search of a phone in a vacant office. So I called her to find out what was wrong. She was terrified when she heard me on the phone and after a moment she said she had to go.

Apparently when she got back inside, she found "me" kissing her girlfriend. She grabbed her and pulled her away, and then the two of them left. When I came back into town for the weekend two days later, she filled me in on everything. I told her not trust me anytime she saw me and didn't know ahead of time I was supposed to be there. To this day, I don't go anywhere to meet people without letting them know ahead of time that I'll be there. After that she saw my double around town a few times but she stayed away from him, as did her girlfriend.

A couple weeks later was the most disturbing encounter though.

I was at her place and we were alone. We were in her bed when we were interrupted by someone ringing the doorbell and knocking loud on the door of her apartment, over and over. We both felt a little weird about it. It was just a feeling that something wasn't right. She eventually pulled herself away and went to see who was at the door. I heard her scream and ran out into the living room and saw him running away as she stood there with the door hanging open. It was the first I saw my double, and he apparently knew where my girlfriend lived. Neither one of us was dressed enough to chase after him, so I just held her for a while.

My double had been dressed almost identically to me, right down to the black duster trenchcoat. She said he just had an evil smile as he looked into her eyes and said hello to her, using her name and speaking with my voice. I hadn't been paying attention unfortunately, so I didn't hear him talking from her room, but she said he sounded just like me. He never came near her again as far as I know. Maybe he knew I might be there. *shrugs* I don't know and to be honest, I'm just happy that he left her alone after that.

Since then, I've had people around the country tell me they have supposedly seen me, and I've usually acted like an ass toward them if approached. He's often disappeared just as quickly as he's been discovered.

So from my experience, I sincerely believe dopplegangers are real, and they're definitely a problem for people who aren't aware of their existence.

That's the general idea of a doppleganger. Is there some way you'd like to elaborate on this a bit? Examples of sightings, where, when, etc perhaps?

Tinhatman:

Has it occurred to you that maybe you were his doppelganger, and his trying to see you or chase you led to his death? They say it's bad luck to see your doppelganger, but what if from their perspective YOU are the doppelganger?

I think there are more than one type of doppelganger.

1. People who just happen to look like you. There is someone in this general area (region) who looks enough like me that I have been mistaken for her a few times, but then when people get closer and hear me speak, they realize I'm not her.

2. Ghost/echo/OOBE? This type of doppelganger appears briefly in close proximity to the person it appears to be, often to family members, and acts like the person except that it may not speak. It may otherwise have characteristics in common with ghosts such as semi-transparency, lack of color, and fading in or out of existence. It is my opinion that this is the type of doppelganger that gave rise to the "bad luck/ill omen" legends, although it could have also been the 3rd type. In some cases this type of "doppelganger" may be the spirit (soul?) of the person traveling outside the body. When someone sees a close family member and then later finds out the person had died prior to the visit, we don't say "doppelganger," we assume that the person's spirit (ghost?) visited. Really, though, it could be the same phenomenon; the only difference is that the physical body was dead when the "doppelganger" was seen.

3. The persistent doppelganger. This type pretends to be you, right down to acknowledging your friends and wearing the same clothes as you. Good friends or family may feel uneasy or get a feeling that "something is wrong" around this doppelganger. Sometimes they seem to be malicious, doing things that you wouldn't normally do which result in your getting in trouble, either with friends/family or with the law. I have no evidence, but I suspect that these are some type of shapeshifting entity which deliberately makes itself look (and be dressed) just like you, and its purpose usually seems to be malignant. These guys usually also seem to try to avoid being seen or met by you.
