Dopplegangers are no stranger to me. I've seen several over the years, and I'll detail some of what I've observed or been told here.
My doppleganger first began to show up in the early 90s, probably back in 1992 if I recall. I was a year or so out of high school by that point. That
was when people started hollering at me for not responding when they would wave or say hello out in public. Now I've had to learn to shut out the
outside world at times to keep from being overwhelmed by the thoughts and emotions of large groups of passersby, so I chalked that up to me not paying
attention to those people at the time. Not a big deal, right?
It got to be a bit more interesting when people began seeing me driving around my hometown, especially near my mother's home. The fun part of that
was that I wasn't living in that town anymore, and I didn't have either a driver's license or access to any vehicle remotely resembling the black
and red Chevy Blazer S-10 I was supposedly seen driving. I always thought the colors were interesting, because those are my favorite colors.
What made things more interesting was a night that I was stopped by police while walking along the road with a friend of mine. Someone matching our
exact descriptions had just held up a local restaurant across town. Video footage was viewed by the officers and they immediately "knew" it was us
apparently. Apparently the mannerisms and behavior of the criminals in question were close enough from the descriptions to make the officers on the
scene want to see the tape to begin with though. According to the officers who came for us, they were dressed just as we were that night.
Luckily we also had video footage of us hanging out at the gas station/mini-mart down the street. That got us off the hook, but the officers who came
for us knew us pretty well and recognized us immediately on both tapes. To the best of my knowledge, that case was never resolved.
I started to get curious at that point, but not long after, I moved away from the area altogether. I didn't give it much thought for a little
while.
In '95 I was dating a girl who was living back in the area by my hometown, but I was living over an hour and a half away at that point, working
nights in a warehouse. My girlfriend and her girlfriend went to a bar and ran into me shooting pool. I acknowledged them by name but was otherwise
disinterested in talking with them. My girlfriend at the time was a witch and psychic and felt like something was wrong as soon as she saw me. Even
before they approached me, she told her girlfriend to be careful. She knew I should be at work, two hours away, and immediately walked off to find a
pay phone to page me. That was when people carried pagers instead of cell phones.
Sure enough, I was at work, driving a forklift that night. I got the page of the number of the pay phone she was at and her personal SOS code (4444)
and hauled ass across the warehouse in search of a phone in a vacant office. So I called her to find out what was wrong. She was terrified when she
heard me on the phone and after a moment she said she had to go.
Apparently when she got back inside, she found "me" kissing her girlfriend. She grabbed her and pulled her away, and then the two of them left. When
I came back into town for the weekend two days later, she filled me in on everything. I told her not trust me anytime she saw me and didn't know
ahead of time I was supposed to be there. To this day, I don't go anywhere to meet people without letting them know ahead of time that I'll be
there. After that she saw my double around town a few times but she stayed away from him, as did her girlfriend.
A couple weeks later was the most disturbing encounter though.
I was at her place and we were alone. We were in her bed when we were interrupted by someone ringing the doorbell and knocking loud on the door of her
apartment, over and over. We both felt a little weird about it. It was just a feeling that something wasn't right. She eventually pulled herself away
and went to see who was at the door. I heard her scream and ran out into the living room and saw him running away as she stood there with the door
hanging open. It was the first I saw my double, and he apparently knew where my girlfriend lived. Neither one of us was dressed enough to chase after
him, so I just held her for a while.
My double had been dressed almost identically to me, right down to the black duster trenchcoat. She said he just had an evil smile as he looked into
her eyes and said hello to her, using her name and speaking with my voice. I hadn't been paying attention unfortunately, so I didn't hear him
talking from her room, but she said he sounded just like me. He never came near her again as far as I know. Maybe he knew I might be there. *shrugs* I
don't know and to be honest, I'm just happy that he left her alone after that.
Since then, I've had people around the country tell me they have supposedly seen me, and I've usually acted like an ass toward them if approached.
He's often disappeared just as quickly as he's been discovered.
So from my experience, I sincerely believe dopplegangers are real, and they're definitely a problem for people who aren't aware of their existence.
