Oh, and one of the possible deaths of one of the philosophers did strike me as somewhat ironic - the man of wisdom falling on the sword of impatience, or something like that.

a Hero has many faces...

the person who made an impression on me was
a person i seen 1st on NYC television, his stage/TV shows name
was Soupy Sales...another character he played was Philo Kevetch

Afterthought add:
i think he is the actor/comedian that ~as urban legend has it~
instructed the kids in the viewing audience to get one of those green
pieces of paper the parents use for money...and send those pieces of paper to his TV show.

Well....with the directions to the suit.

John Wayne was my hero too, as a young man, I played guitar in a rock band, and we named our band after one of his films, The Commancheros.
Wonderful memories,
Regards,
Horsegiver.

Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn. I lived on the lake (Lake Belton) and spent just about every single waking hour haunting it. We were pretty poor (just me and mom), and my desire to be a contributor to the household was a neat fit for the independant and bold Huck Finn, tempered with the quick witted and sly Tom Sawyer. So i kind of lived like the two of them.

I had a good childhood, even without dad around. Huck Finn didn't need one, so I neither did I.

Every time I hear this question, I actually have to stop and think about it... I had a slightly unstable childhood, and can't remember really having any 'heroes'... but there's ONE name that has always been close to my heart since I was a little kid, so I guess he is my hero...

WILLY NELSON

Kinda funny thinking about it... I didn't even know he was a pot advocate until I was in high school, and by then I was 'advocating' it quite a bit. The guy never ceases to surprise me. I don't think there is a single thing that I've heard about him that doesn't make me smile knowing that there is someone else out there like me
(I'm sure someone is gonna go ruin that for me, though... lol!)

EDIT: Gotta add that, although he hasn't really influenced me at all in my music, he has influenced me just to simply write music. Funny that I don't even care much for country music, can't even name a WN song, but I can point them out when they come on the radio, and have never changed the channel because for some reason, I actually DO like his songs. One of the absolute best country songs ever? The Highwayman... one that Willy was involved in. That song still takes me away to a trip through the ages and beyond.

I have a couple hero's actully. Elizabeth Glaser is one, she fought hard for her children and other children... to get the fact that AIDS just wasn't a homosexual disease... it affected everybody and more action needed to be taken to fight AIDS.

My Grandmother. She was a dear sweet lady who knew what was what and who was who. Piss her off and you'd be in trouble... a nurse and she was in the Army Corps as a Nurse. She taught me right from wrong and to always think... be my own person. She survived the Great Depression, her family having what they needed and sometimes wanted to having nothing at all, due to the family's kind heart. They owned a grocery store and during that time cared more about the people, their neighbors and friends having food on their tabled to feed their family. Later she married a doctor and they did a lot of pro bono work. She told me once that a man gave them a goat for payment. She was a good hearted lady, who had a fiery soul, a big heart, and tried her best to teach me the things I needed to know in the world today. I thank her... she let me be a kid, yet she opened my mind, made me think, and without her I would not be the person I am today. I just wished I would have listened to her cleaning tips a bit more... lol.(She was a neat freak and knew how to clean and clean good!)

JFK and the Astronauts, until I found out JFK cheated on his Wife; so the Astronauts. I obsessed on them from Gemini forward. I liked Dinosaurs a lot too, but I suppose they don't qualify.

When I was a litle girl I thought the sun rose and set on my aunt Sue. I thought she was so pretty, and she had the longest fingernails, always painted and the prettiest rings. I used to sit by her in church on Sunday and she always let me wear her rings

When I was little my heroine was Queen Liliuokalani, the last monarch of the last legal government of the Kingdom of Hawaii. I would pray that I would be as brave as she in facing the evil USAmerican companies and the evil children of the protestant missionaries.

I also admired Queen Emma very much and most of our dances in those days were either in her honour or in honour of King David Kalakaua

As I get even older now and frail, I find it difficult to speak or write of these things without weeping.

My hero is and always will be my father. A great man Who in my opinion Is one of the smartest person ive ever met. Never sheltered me as a child , always told me the truth about anything i asked him. No matter how many things i did wrong as a kid, I was always able to talk to him about it and he would guide me in the right direction.

I could write a book when it comes to my father and all he has done in his life. To me, He is the greatest person on earth and i look forward to the next stage Of this journey We call life. Knowing he will always be there to guide me in the right direction no matter how far i stray away.

Also, my Mom and Dad!
They helped EVERYONE around that they could and worked hard to give us a good life!
My Grand Daddy, too!
He boycotted local stores for carrying pornography and gave some of his crops to the poor!

He was always planning.

He had the latest technology.

He was always taking action.

He was always FAILING.

Just like me.
