Hi

I'm not sure there is any conspiracy here, but something strange is going on with my Dobermann and my neighbours dog. Four days ago he stop drinking water, no matter how i try and when i saw my neighbour he said that same thing with his dog. Now i took my dog in to the doctor and the vet said there was nothing wrong with him. So the dog got worse cause it was not drinking, then i decided to try milk and it worked, also my neighbour did it.

Well, quess what, now my dog only drinks bought water from our local store, same goes for the next door neighbours dog. Is there something wrong with the water we are drinking here? Now i'm afreid to drink it my self, i called the janitor and asked him to investigate, but he just laughed and said everything should be fine with the water.

My dog is not sick, just refuses to drink tap water, only drinks bottled water, whats the problem? Any dog lover here got any ideas?

I've noticed my dog has been picky about tap water lately, too. I thought it was strange also seeing that he'd have no problem lapping out of a mudhole while walking through the woods.

There are so many things that could be done to our municipal water systems. Ours (Anchorage) is supposed to be the best in the country as it is gravity fed from a glacial lake.

Of course, there are many additives to tap water. However, what of those would cause a dog to all of the sudden loose interest in it? As far as I know, nothing new is being added in the last few weeks.

Yes, there is something wrong.

I bet you dog is smelling something in the water.

Could buy a basic lab set, at a scientific store or online, and check it.

I think the source is in the air. Has your air been hazy lately?

Well my Rotwailer refuses to eat McDonalds ... he (actually it's a SHE) even doesn't eat the meat in a Cheeseburger.

Woah, your dog is up to something there. I suggest you buy him bottled water, even those that come in gallons or get like a professional deliver water to your house and stop driking the tap water..dogs can sense a many things.

Always go with what the animal is doing. They have instincts we aren't even privy to. If he isn't drinking the water whereas he used to then don't drink it yourself. Something could have leaked in that nobody knows about.

Just out of curiosity do you have a septic tank, or city sewer?

Don't drink the water dude. call your local water authority and ask the water be tested.

I agree with others on here. Stop drinking the water. Go out and buy distalled water or some type of bottle water and drink only that for now. At the same time send a water sample off to have it tested.

Hi all,

I must agree with other posters on here too, there is a reason a dog is a man/woman's best friend and with your neighbour’s dog refusing to drink as well does hint to some unseen extra in the water. Though it could be something as simple as a dead rat in the tank or where ever your main source of water is; check it out.

Peace.

agreed with all. animals(dogs) are tuned in man...big time.
their hearing and smell is off the charts compared to ours.

i heard someone kind of explain it like this.
say someone just made a cake. humans smell cake right?

well, the dog smells each individual thing. the eggs and the sugar, etc..

my dogs know when a storm is coming(sure all dogs do)..

if your dog i not sick as per what the vet said, and it will not drink the water, then i would not drink the water either.

your dog is always going to be tuned in to stuff you're nor privvy too.

kinda like if you look our your window and see every animal around hauling ass in an easterly direction, your best bet is probably to get going that way too.

my guess is also that he smells something bad in the water. i saw something on tv a couple of weeks ago. our smell sensors have the surface area equivalent to a postage stamp. a bloodhound has a surface area the size of a small towel. so yeah. i wouldn't trust it if the dog won't drink it. dogs typically aren't that picky about what they consume. they don't even care if it's not food half the time. =)

No, it come's from water treatment plant directly i think. I don't drink the water anymore, i'm thinking about calling the water company about this. I'm sure they will laugh right in my face, but if they get many complaints from pet owners it should change things. I fear even to shower in the water.

Yeah ours is actually pretty clean. I have a refrigerator with a water thing and filter in it and it takes atleast 7-8 months to get dirty enough to have to replace the filter.

You should have a lab test the water. I have used testproducts.com for a radon test and they seem to be a reliable company.

www.testproducts.com...

If something does show up and the water company doesnt do anything about it then your only option is to buy expensive filtering equipment.

You could also dig a well but that brings in a whole host of other possible water problems.

If it was me I would have it tested. You bath/shower in it also and who knows some chemical could absorb into your skin.

A Doberman is one of the smartest dogs and well known for their tracking and air scent abilities. I have a red male who just turned 13 and if he wouldn't drink our water I would have it tested.

Good luck.

I'm pretty sure the utilities are obligated to test if you complain, you may want to say you taste something or smell something unusual rather than your dog, just to avoid any skepticism

you can buy cheap swimming pool test kits to at least see what the pH and chlorine levels are, and you can of course get as sophisticated as you'd like over the net, depending on what you want to pay

Recently some city and county governments have made rulings that they are not going to purchase bottled water for use in their government buildings. Maybe someone will remember what I'm talking about.

Many officals are touting the purity of municipal water. Hmmm....could there be a connection here?

Ideas anyone? Does anyone remember the bottled water ban I'm speaking of?l

Yeah I do remember that. I know California was one of the states doing it. But I do remember reading a story about it.
