Thanks for digging all the important stuff out Zorgon.
The scale does look right. Wow. Fascinating!

We even get the hard hat guy for comparison.

Would be interesting to find out whatever happened to the SOAR project. I know they had funding cuts and all, but we all know that's the official story.

I got sent a link and this is what I found by searching on that creator/author:

the possibility of igniting a small fusion explosion of controllable size by this method is considered

www.osti.gov...

So now we know that there is a possibility of igniting a small fusion reactor by using this method.

Here is the best part, guess when this was written?

1964 Feb 01

I also wanted to point out something about the item that started this thread. The LLNL fusion reactor was doing research that might have influenced the start of the LANL fusion project. I listed info before that described what type of research LANL was doing and that includes hypervelocity research.

The link that I posted above is titled:

ON THE ATTAINABILITY OF FUSION TEMPERATURES UNDER HIGH DENSITIES BY IMPACT SHOCK WAVES OF SMALL SOLID PARTICLES ACCELERATED TO HYPERVELOCITIES

So this only points out that they were looking into ways of starting a fusion reactor by a hypervelocity particle. We know that LANL took this idea and created their own equipment to study it. How far did they get? This research can also be used to make one hell of a rail gun but I think that was an offshoot idea since they were looking at ways to start the fusion reactor with a hypervelocity "bullet".

I wanted to mention all this since a fusion reactor has to have a starting procedure. This is the first step and we have some research that shows a possible idea to make it happen.

I am sure that other ideas have been thought up and tested, but this was done in 1964 and redone in the 80's by LANL for the DoD.

There are lots of those 'alleged' conversations.... I heard some of them when it happened... had I known back then that they would need to be save for posterity.... I guess I will have to start a search through old magazines and newspapers of the day see what was put into print...

Funding cuts is the easiest way to make a project go 'dark' Say you haven't got any more money and people will believe it... say you don't want to waste anymore tax dollars people will call you a hero...

BUT if they ran out of funding... well how did they progress to the next stage and device? As I said the SOAR was halfway up that list...

And whats really bugging me is that..
The Russians invented the Tokamak in 1950's
As NJ just showed that project was 1964
I have a document on electromagnetic shielding on OUR space craft dated 1964... Its no wonder they don't worry about radiation...

Scientists are still shouting teleportation is impossible (though some are getting results) yet I have DoD/LANL/AFRL documents talking about Stargate wormhole teleportation that not only goes from point A to B, but to other dimensions, other universes AND back in time

And they talk about it like its common place and point to naturally existing gates...

Then you have LANL papers on gravity shielding (use THAT instead of anti gravity in searches)(think about it :cool
and even warp drives... and "Looking Glass" which seems to be a way of looking into the past

So how the hell do they keep all the universities from spilling the beans?

Now tons of these papers ARE in public domain... It is true that very few even here at ATS even follow the links and read it all or follow up on it... So in that sense it really is 'hidden in plain site'

It seems to be that we have small portable fusion devices... running on HE3... The significance of this is that is EXACTLY what you need to power an anit gravity (gravity shielding) device or a star drive...

Seems Ben Rich of Lockheed wasn't kidding in his retirement speech...

"We already have the means to travel among the stars, but these technologies are locked up in black projects and it would take an act of God to ever get them out to benefit humanity. Anything you can imagine we already know how to do." - Ben Rich

All the Power of the Cosmos in a teeny Weeny little Package

MIT
Levitated Dipole Fusion Confinement

Fusion research has focused on the goal of a fusion power source that utilizes deuterium and tritium (D-T) because the reaction rate is relatively large compared with the rate for D-D or D-He3. Furthermore, the D-D cycle is difficult in a traditional fusion confinement device such as a tokamak because good energy confinement is accompanied by good particle confinement which leads to a build up of ash in the discharge.

Previous studies [1-4] indicate that a levitated dipole would be favorable for a D-He3 fuel cycle based power source. The D-D cycle is the most promising because of the availability of deuterium. Recently we have considered utilizing a levitated dipole for the D-D cycle based power source. Fusion reactors based on the deuterium-deuterium (D-D) reaction would be superior to D-T based reactors in so far as they can greatly reduce the power produced in neutrons and do not requires the breeding of tritium. In a recent article titled "Helium Catalyzed D-D Fusion in a Levitated Dipole" we have proposed a fusion power source, based on an alternative fuel cycle which we call ``helium catalyzed D-D". We have explored the application of a levitated dipole as a D-D power source and found that a dipole may have the unique capability of producing excellent energy confinement accompanied by low particle confinement. Additionally a levitated dipole device would be intrinsically steady state and extract power as surface heating, permitting a thin walled vacuum vessel and eliminating the need for a massive neutron shield. We find that a dipole based D-D power source can potentially provide a substantially better utilization of magnetic field energy with a comparable mass power density as compared to a D-T based tokamak power source.

The last item you posted should give you an idea of what they are up to. They mentioned that the massive neutron shielding isn't required with this newer design.

As they make things simpler they will become closer to a model that will be more affordable by other research labs, or for a possible production scenerio that will change the way we get our power.

Just thought I would mention what happens when things are simplified.

Design? Never mind Design... lets talk SUCCESSFULLY TESTED WORKING MODEL

The latest on the LDX project can be found on this page.

February 9, 2007: First levitation tests were sucessfully completed. The launcher was withdrawn about 2 cm and the floating coil was levitated for approximately 40 minutes. The floating coil has 5 degrees of freedom for position and tilt. The real time digital control system utilizes an occulting position detection made up of 8 laser lines. The the coil position was maintained within 0.5 mm of the desired location.

On 11/8/2007 we completed our fourth experimental campaign with a levitated dipole and, for the first time, with all supports fully removed from the plasma. We gathered data covering a range of parameters, heating, and fueling conditions. First results will be presented at the Orlando APS meeting on 11/14/07.

Levitated Dipole Experiment's floating magnet passes first test

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--A major milestone was achieved in the construction of the world's first levitated dipole experiment. The high-field superconducting ring, which will be magnetically levitated for several hours in a large vacuum vessel, was successfully tested to a total ring current of 1.57 million amperes. Once levitated, the superconducting ring will confine an ionized hydrogen gas, or plasma, at an (electron) temperatures as high as one billion degrees.

The floating coil must be suspended several meters away from the walls of the vacuum vessel and from the external magnets that counter-balance the force of gravity. When this is achieved, the magnetic field of the experiment will resemble the fields of the magnetized planets, like Earth and Jupiter, that confine hot plasma within their magnetospheres.

The floating coil, tested July 20, was designed by the Fusion Technology and Engineering Division of MIT's Plasma Science and Fusion Center.

Just a heads up to you heavy duty researchers. A lot of things that can tie in to find over in the FOIA Documents here on ATS. You'll find things that might help with dating.

Not that kind of groping in the dark dating, real dating.

Yes I know someone already posted a paper on antimatter drives (though its not really an FOIA but a publicly available tech sheet.

I have been digging up stuff on that when they 'scooped' us... but while that document is the 'apetizer' we have the 'meat and potatoes'

Coming soon I am only a week behind

Incase some of you want something new to read before Zorgon gets back with his info try this.

en.wikipedia.org...
en.wikipedia.org...
fti.neep.wisc.edu...

This info may be hard to understand at first, but please read it since this is a possible direction that the plasma community is heading in instead of using what is currently popular.

I will give you an easy version of these 3 links right now, so please read.

The first link deals with magnetohydrodynamics. Yes this is what subs can use as a silent propulsion, but it works on fluids and plasmas are fluids just like water. I hope that got your attention.

Since we know that we move onto the second link. This deals with making propulsion from a plasma. It uses magnets and an electric source. So we know that we can use plasma as a source of power that will turn into propulsion we will move into the last link.

This is mostly about a timeline that was thought to be further out, but there can be a working fusion propulsion system capable of carrying heavy loads by in demo form by 2014.

Guess what fuel they are talking about for this reactor? Helium 3. They also talk about how there are only a few known engineering problems to work out. That is a major sticking point between the D-T reactors that many are working on today and the D-He3 reactors. Tokomaks get hot since the heat diffuses and concentrates on an area called the divertor or gets spread over the reactor first wall. The spheromaks use these excited particles to convert their energy directly to thrust or electricity at high efficiency (60-90%). This will affect the design and make things easier for the shperomak compared to the hotter tokomak.

The D-T reactors are easier to ignite, but with the research that we already discussed on this thread they are able to ignite the D-He3 and that makes things interesting. This was one of the roadblocks that was discussed in this link.

They also talk about design. The more popular tokomaks that many are researching with today aren't the way to go for many reasons. The old school spheromaks are coming back, simpler and easier to maintain. The spheromak design is what started this thread so I hope this is all starting to come together.

1. We know that we have the tech to start a He3 fusion spheromak type reactor, that is all the talk on hypersonic testing mentioned in earlier posts
2. We have suffecient quantities of He3 on Earth to test this out, this info comes straight out of the above link btw, yeah that one got me too
3. We have designs for a magnetohydrodynamic thruster that can use this tech
4. We have a company that will test a rocket next year that uses some of the ideas mentioned here, en.wikipedia.org...
This next link goes over it in better detail and mentions the design I talked about on this post
www.techbriefs.com...

I also read in the above link that they can get plenty of He3 on the Moon, that isn't new, but what is new to me is how they explained the process. They said that this mining can go on without anyone on Earth knowing. Hmm, that is interesting if you ask me.

I will let you all play connect the dots since I got some studying to do as well as cook dinner. I hope this makes sense since it is bringing many threads and other ideas together for me. We got the tech so let's build something and see if it works. Luckily that will take place next year. I can't wait.

I hope this doesn't trump what Zorgon was going to post but I think this will cause another shock moment for him. I like dropping by and giving out info like this.

Thank you very much. Your reply defines why I put out factual info. Denying ignorance isn't easy if you listen to the crowd that doesn't base their opinions on facts. I like facts, and I like looking for them as well since that is part of the adventure.

I have been looking into this a little bit differently then some members, but that is because of the way I think. I like seeing the technology tested, repeatable, and controlled. This case has been made for the systems of a fusion reactor. The test flight next year will be very interesting since it deals with the idea that we are discussing.

Some have wondered why I post the way I do. I am a human like the rest of you and I need to see this species move forward. If anything I post makes a single person want to learn more and try to help out then I did my job. I would also ask them to get a job in these areas and make a difference. You don't work a day in your life if you love your job. I am lucky in that sense. Too bad it doesn't deal with stuff like this, yet...

I just haven't figured out how to list you 'officially'

You know what gets me before I even look over those links? Most of it is already on Wikipedia... yet I recall only a few weeks ago in some other threads the mere mention that there is fusion going on got us numerous attacks...

Times they are a changin...!

Here is a statement from the PDF that has me wondering... All those billions poured into fusion research and they say this?
