That said, you are correct that overdevelopment is a contributing factor to the size of the fires, and the main reason the fires are such a problem.

ENVIRONMENTALISM is the main cause of those fires!

Environmentalism and overdevelopment are nearly polar opposites. So who are you going to blame, really?

I believe my rudeness was called for. Your first post on this subject was pretty much a typical "blame the librulz" statement. Harry Reid bad! Environmentalism bad! Two legs bad! It was a paean to the gods of ignorance.

In your hurry to condemn environmentalism, you never stopped to think that perhaps the cause of the problem are people like you. And yes, I mean you personally. You have a home in these fire-prone areas. Do you want to have to deal with the county coming out with their chainsaws and big machines to haul out the deadfall every few months? Odds are you live where you are to get away from the sound of heavy machinery and exhaust. In the construction of your home no doubt a lot of trees were cut and dragged away to make room and to give you a nice scenic view, giving you less windbreak. Have you considered the fact that your home is nestled in the center of fire-prone environment is a primary reason why there are no controlled burns done? After all they have to be a certain size to be effective, and need to be some distance away from homes to be safe.

Now multiply these conditions by a couple thousand, for all your neighbors, and all the people in similar areas, etc. I suppose it's still the fault of some woodpecker or owl, though, right?

You cannot, however, deny that the fuel load in the area helped the fires to get out of hand. While the main problem in putting these fires out IS the wind, the reason they got to the point they did is the BIOMASS in the area.

It's a small contributing factor, one that is inevitable - short of paving a place over, there will always be stuff to burn, no matter what. No amount of logging is going to solve that problem.

Dead, dry timber and shrubs. Stands of small trees. Dry grass. These things all contributed to just how out of hand these fires got.

I suppose ENVIRONMENTALISM is to blame for dry weather, huh?

Who is Glenn Beck?

The guy who insists that you are America-hating scum who deserves to have your house burned down because you're a liberal hippy squirrel-f&*^er because, of course, you live in California. You know, the sort of person you were blaming for these fires? You've honestly never heard of the guy? I figured you would be pen-pals.

There is no one single cause, so polar opposites can both contribute.

I believe my rudeness was called for.

On ATS it is never called for.

your first post on this subject was pretty much a typical "blame the librulz" statement.

Really? So you think I am a conservative then? I don’t play for any team, thanks.

Harry Reid bad!

Harry Reid is bad. I live in Nevada, I know the crap he pulls around here. The man is quite possibly the most corrupt person in Washington.

And yes, I mean you personally. You have a home in these fire-prone areas.

I inherited the house. I have never lived in it. I don’t buy homes fire prone areas, tornado zones, hurricane zones, earthquake zones.

We were actually trying to sell the house.

You know where you can stick your assumptions?

You are so full of hate. What is your problem?

You figured we would be pen pals? Why?

By your description of him I can assume he is at the opposite political spectrum of you. So you think something I said sounds a little like something he said so we must be best buds? Is it all a conspiracy against you?

You need to take a break, go sit in the corner and cool off or something.

So both are the "main cause"? You have yet to back up your own claims of environmentalism's fault with any actual facts, instead just going on about woodpeckers and owls.

If you knew squat about environmentalism, you would know that environmentalism is in favor of clearing excessive deadfall and controlled burns in places like southern California, the everglades, the pine barrens, etc. This is because long-lasting tall fires that these conditions feed are - get this - bad for the woodpeckers and squirrels. Perhaps if we had fewer people seeking to marginalize environmental concerns in favor of slathering California hillsides with ugly houses...

You're not a conservative, huh? Looking at your post history (war good, military weapons in civilian hands good, environmentalism bad, Republican good, Democrat bad, climate change fake, and my favorite "no such thing as an innocent Lebanese"), it turns out you're right, and I have no idea where I got this zany idea of you being conservative.

For real. Harry Reid is the most corrupt man in Washington? Ever met a Murkowski? Hell, have you seen the Mayors DC ends up with?

You weren't especially clear where you lived before. Even so, the point stands. That house you inherited and are looking to sell is part of the problem, as are the hundreds of thousands through California just like it.

As for your pen-pals, I figured you got your talking points from somewhere. You must be the first non-conservative pro-war anti-environment Bush-loving Arab-hating gun-nut I've ever met who has never heard of Glenn Beck.

And it's not hate, it's disgust

I have stated at least ten times on ATS that I do not support the war or those who choose to go fight it. I said it years ago on ATS, I said it weeks ago on ATS. War is always bad, always wrong.

military weapons in civilian hands good
Yes, I will defend that. The only way to keep the republicrats you support from walking all over us is fear of the population.

environmentalism bad
No, extreme environmentalism is bad. Not everything is black and white.

Republican good, Democrat bad
Nope, you are so off there. I have even started threads about how they are BOTH bad. I don’t like Republicans any more than you do.

climate change fake,
Again, you are wrong. Climate change is natural, but we arent helping.

and my favorite "no such thing as an innocent Lebanese"

You are absolutely right. There are no innocent people left on the face of the Earth. The Lebanese were begging to get attacked just like the US was begging to get attacked.

That said, the attack against them was wrong. The attack against us was wrong.

War is never the correct solution.

it turns out you're right, and I have no idea where I got this zany idea of you being conservative.

Any person who doesn’t agree with you 100% is a conservative?

Funny thing is, I am a voter. I always vote. I have never voted for a Republican. Ron Paul will be the first.

You weren't especially clear where you lived before.

Yes, I was. It is in my mini profile, always has been.

Even so, the point stands. That house you inherited and are looking to sell is part of the problem, as are the hundreds of thousands through California just like it.

I AGREE. They shouldn’t be there.

Bush-loving
Where are you getting that from? I cant stand him, I never voted for him, I think the man should go live on his land in Belize and never be allowed back into politics.

Arab-hating
I have several Arab friends. I made my wife learn to cook Arab food. I love Arabs.

Do you want to know who I am still pen pals with? Two IRAQIS. Over the years I have managed to keep in touch with two of my Iraqi friends. The minute I judge it safe enough, I am going back to Iraq to visit them, bringing my wife with me. I love their country, and I hate mine for what we are doing to it.

Glenn Beck.

Yeah, I Goggled him. Have to say, the man doesn’t look like anyone I would ever give the time of day. IF I DID watch TV, he wouldn’t be on my set.

I am sorry I don’t seem to fit well into your left-right world.,

You can go around hating people you have never met and know nothing about because a few things they said go against your party line, but do me a favor and stop spreading lies about me.
