I'm sure most of us have heard of the horrible truck accident that occurred on 10/12/07 in California. Normally accidents of this nature don't bother me as vehicle accidents happen every day across the country, but this one seems a little odd. First of all 31 vehicles were involved, 23 people have been identified. Eight drivers are missing. Where did they go and what has happened to the story in the media.

I have spoken to several people about this incident, mostly truckers, and have come up with only three possible answers.

1. The drivers were either illegal immigrants, or drivers in the new Mexican Trucking Pilot Program. If it were to be true that the drivers were illegal or part of the Pilot Program and made a run for the border then we will never hear it from the media.

2. Possible terrorist attack. Pretty lame attack with low casualties, 10 injured and only 3 fatalities, and no serious loss of infrastructure. Only a lot of traffic delays. Nothing new in Southern California.

3. Abducted by aliens. Not likely since I've never heard of spaceships saving people from traffic accidents, not to mention no reports of a spaceship around the accident site.

Second of all I must ask what was on any one of those truck to cause such a fire/explosion. Most trucks only hold 150 to 300 gallons of diesel each. I just can't believe that the fire burned uncontrollably for 2 days. Just about all accidents I have seen involving any vehicle never result in that type of fire, and there were no reports of any tanker trucks involved, although Hazardous Materials are not uncommon in dry van trailers, yet to my knowledge none were reported.

So hears my question, What is the media hiding, and who are covering up for?

By now DOT and CHP surely have the VIN numbers from the eight trucks missing drivers. They should know who the trucks belonged to and who was driving them, yet not a word from the talking heads.

Please comment on this I'm sure some you have some very valid opinions on this issue since this could happen in any major city in America, and most of you drive.

I'm more inclined to go with number 1. HeavilyArmed. DOT and CHP should have VIN numbers if they were there. I'm no expert, but could VIN numbers be Wiped-out somehow? They probably wouldn't mention Hazmat Placards either Huh? That is if the Mexican Trucking Pilot Program even use Placards.

A lot a times in accident situations a drunk will vacate the scene, but all 8 drivers? Sounds like their covering-up something.

Yea I would go with illegal truck drivers, because it would make sense that the left wingers would cover it up.

Yeah I'd go with No.1 also, but that's kind of scary when you think about it.

Out of 31 vehicles almost a third were being driven by people who, for whatever reason, have chosen to not be identified as having been involved.

What are they hiding and how soon will the CHP learn more?

Dude you're in the wrong forum, you want AbovePolitics.

I don't see a cover-up, I see a lack of interest by the media, who are simply playing to the short attention span of their core demographic.

Ok let me take this one step further, imagine this happening in all the tunnels and on bridges leading into NY City. Could this be a test? The damage caused by the fire is absolutely astounding. The entire part of the tunnel where the crash happened collapsed from the heat, (concrete crumbled and fell, steel structure is still in tact). That would be an easy way to cut of NYC from the rest of the country. The biggest question I have is where are the drivers, they just didn't call a taxi and drive off. No one has reported seeing them leave or run from the scene. Even among all the commotion someone had to see something.

Maybe, with all the Commotion & Explosions nobody noticed what 'others' were doing. Maybe... they were more concerned about Saving their Own hides and those of their loved ones. It was probably a Pretty Scarey Situation.
If you see Joe Blow running.... Who care's at that point? Terrorists would count on that type of reaction, causing so much fear including diversions hoping no one will notice.

Yea, it is really odd.

When this first happen i was think... 'what just happen here'

All the poele were saying that 'it wounded like an explostion'

And now the missing drivers... something is not adding up... could they have just burnt away??? From the fire, and there is no evidence left of the bodies...

If very crappy reporting counts as a cover-up, then mabye

I just dont know what to think about this case, are we supposed to belive that the trucks were driven by remote... or what... i don't get it.

Hey.. perhaps the 8 drivers.. Died?

i dont think it would be possible for 8 people to die.. and disappear like that.. but i imagine maybe one...

maybe they got thrown from the vehicle.. and crushed between trucks/cars/ or anything.... you gotta figure.. if the vehicles can get smsahed together and almost be obliterated... im sure a person could have too

[more

Even in cremation the bone does not simply burn up. If the drivers have died in the fire where are the remains.

See thats my point. Most trucking companies have GPS tracking to keep tabs on the drivers and the freight they haul. The few true owner operators that are not leased on with a company often dont have the GPS tracking system but have families that would miss them, and brokers that would be missing freight. When a load is picked up they just don't give it to you without taking some info, drivers license, name, hell I've even been fingerprinted before picking up a load. Even the Mexican trucks rolling in the US are probably tracked. I believe that was part of the deal with Mexico. All trucks have a black box that records everything that happens to the truck, when the brakes are applied, what speed at what time, what angle was the truck at etc...
If the drivers fled for legal reasons the companies that employ them would report them to the authorities. No owner operator would walk away from a truck he/she paid $60k + without an insurance check. This story just doesn't make sense.

OK I'm in Cali, and I've driven the I-5 corridor through that section of freeway you mention. I'm having a little difficulty finding any references to 8 missing drivers.

Do you have any links to stories with this information? I'd like to read up before I make any statements about opinion.

It doesn't make sense that they are missing. Do you have source for this claim? Then again, maybe they were incinerated in the fire.

Nine drivers, whose trucks were involved in the fiery chain reaction crash, in a special truck-only tunnel on California's Interstate 5, are missing. Over 30 vehicles, mostly trucks were involved in the crash.

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

Okay, my questions:
How do we know that the missing were driver of trucks as opposed to other vehicles destroyed in the crash? If this is a trucks only tunnel what other vehicles were involved?

Were all the vehicles moving at the time of the crash or were some of the trucks parked somewhere inside the tunnel? I'm asking this because I wonder if these could have been loaded with explosives, driven into the tunnel and the drivers left by other means. One truck which seems rather suspect to me was the one loaded with nails per the above link.

Hate to say it, but that is hardly a credible source. Where did that person get the information that drivers were missing?

Is there any more mainstream news service carrying this information? A local paper, perhaps?

www.freerepublic.com...

Here check this link, I first heard this on 700 wlw xm radio news.

There were 30 trucks involved in this crash and one car.

CHP looking for missing drivers from I-5 truck accident
ABC News ^ | 10/20/2007

California authorities are trying to determine the whereabouts of at least 9 drivers involved in the deadly I-5 tunnel crash.

Ten people injured in the crash were taken to area hospitals, another 10 escaped the flames uninjured, three others, including a 6 year old were killed in the crash. That totals 23 people, but the CHP says 31 vehicles were involved in the crash which leaves at least 9 drivers unaccounted for at this time.

Warren Stanley of the California Highway Patrol, "We have to identify all the vehicles and determine who they belong to and based on registration we can move forward to identify those drivers".

The CHP is hoping the missing drivers will come forward. They think those people might not have driver's licenses or could be illegal immigrants. The tunnel remains closed indefinitely which means more traffic on the southbound lanes of Interstate 5.

I've added addtional sources telling of the missing drivers. I'm at work right now which doesn't give me more time to research further tonight.
