The 80's, lean, lithe, and no worries. The 90's, much of the same except for some temporary setbacks. 2003 saw the loss of my most cherished loved one and it's been sh*t from there. I don't like the 00's. 'There are people for that', I know. Just hate to open my head to strangers. I'm funny like that.

I am there with you. Lost my beloved in 2004. Within 2 months, I had 2 emergency surgeries, lost my job to out sourcing and my brother died. Lost all my faith in this "reality".

So sorry kd65. Loss sucks. Be it a family member or a beloved pet.
Jasus, just feeling really lost tonight. I pray things go better. For us, for the world.

So the irony of saying this to an anonymous board is rather ridiculous. I don't know why I felt compelled to do so. Insanity perhaps. I guess I was just thinking how many of us have experienced great loss, great uncertainty to the future, and great untrust in the current path of our world and its leaders with constant threat to life, liberty, and happiness. That's it, I'm done. No more on the subject from me at least.

I am in my mid 40s. And while it might not be exactly what you're talking about...I have noticed that we've already forgotten the past. There's a song lyric that says, "Time turns everything to fiction." And it's true.

No wonder it's said that our greatest fear should be that we repeat the mistakes of the past.

When I was a teenager, I was fairly convinced that we were headed towards nuclear war. I had zero confidence that the sorts of people that were in power about the world, would have the smarts and compassion to avoid it.

I cried when the Berlin wall fell. When the Soviet Union broke apart. I never thought I'd see that happen. I never thought that we could have the chance to escape the inevitable war.

Since the turn of the millenia, every ounce of faith that I had has been taken away.

I fear for the future. Where will we be in 2 years? 5? 10? I fear we are at a major crossroads.

The more things get different, the more they stay the same.

The Cold War is over, sure, but the elites have declared for us a new "enemy" to have a standoff against-militant Islam. But is not the enemy within the gates not more dangerous than the enemy without the gates?

A change that I think everyone on this thread can feel thankful for is the Internet. How could we be having this conversation now without it?

I wished to have a little bit more insight than that. Maybe I'll have more later.

I lied. I have more to say. Uber you rock and nailed it. Control cannot be garnered without threat and fear in this reality. Unless someone or some thing is able to wrest the reigns from this runaway horse who has great integrity and social prominence.
Dahli Lama for world emancipator.
I can dream. And only with a dream can new realities be.
I will fight to my last breath to disallow humanity be exiled to the sewage heap by a handful of neoclastic pirahnas.

I am sorry for all of your losses. I can't say I have felt the same, but I did lose both my grandparents to cancer this year. I am 21 years old, and my life has spiraled out of control. It is like I have bad luck. I have had legal issues, so it took me about 3 years to get out of debt, and now I am in as much debt.
I am currently trying to get through college, and have debt collectors calling everyday. It seems like life has it out for us, and it gets tougher with everyday passing. All I hope is that you make it through the tough times alright.

99. I was in the top 5 percent of my class. Thought I'd be a surgeon or lawyer. Honor roll. Got cocky. Young and dumb, and the 70's were 'some interesting times to say the least, and I'll say the least'. Stay in school and get your stuff quickly no matter what.

Add me to the "Post-2000 Sucks" crowd. I'd like to go back to 1999 and start over. Life's been brutal to me since the turn of the century.

Things will get better!!!

It's how we envision our future that counts.
Do we let the oppressors oppress?

For me, what would suck would be sitting around
and doing nothing about it.

Yes, the fight for freedom and liberty has always been difficult.

But didn't stop our forefathers whom many of gave their lives so we could live freely and peacefully.

The time to stand up for freedom, liberty and justice for all, is now!

I think now, is the most important time ever, to make history.

Peace be in all of our houses.

Courage, be in all of our hearts.

Treat your neighbor well.

Love God.

Don't believe in God?
You will soon.

The Prophecy of Revelation is currently in progress.
The Prophecy of Jesus has occurred.
We are in the time of Tribulation.

Be prepared to defend in beliefs that you think are right, with your life.

Our rights have been stripped, and control is now completely in the Presidents hands, who is just a puppet on a string.

A very scary, dangerous puppet indeed.

OK, rant over. Thanks for a thread with a chance to do this.

I expected a much different post than what I read.

I'm sorry to hear of your losses. Things will get better.

Somewhere in the Bible there is a quote I use more and more. "God doesn't give you more than you can handle." It keeps me sane.

Still about 7 years away from that age range JPM but great thread.... living in the 90s through college and into decent jobs seems like ancient history to me, I think about friendships that have spanned 10-15 years like it was yesterday, some of which are doing okay, others are worried about foreclosures and too early home purchases/credit debt.

War totaling almost half a trillion yet Rummy stole 2 trillion prior and we can all do the math on that one. Still, think Putin and China will stand up to anymore mid east war, hopefully. Kind of sick of hearing about it even in alt news forums like this one, almost seems to promote war at that point.

edit: economic prosperity seems to be a thing of the past and even though Billary is a shoe-in for prez, she's not good for the country, need someone we can trust like Ron Paul. Either way, she'll "use force" against mid east and probably will pick the worst cabinet. Prior to that even, we're in for "fiscal reckoning" and she'll then serve as the "recovering" prez.

Between "peak oil" and America's service economy, where we don't produce anything aside from credit debt and waste as our top two exports (!!!), housing bubble/subprime fallout soon, credit/deficit/savings rates are at depression levels, anything else to point to economic disaster?

Apologies should you only of wanted 40 plus people posting in here..... the world's youth need to think about everyone's future, engineers is what we seem to need, discover fast, alt energy sources.

I'm only 26, but I'm in the same boat. I lost my father, who was my best friend and the most important person in my life, suddenly in the summer of 2001. He was such a great man and loved by so many people. He would give you the shirt off his back and did so much to help those who were less-fortunate. I almost think that God took him, a month before 9/11, to spare him of what has since happened and what is still yet to come.

Since my father's passing, I've lost two uncles as well as two of my dogs who meant the world to me. My life has been slowly falling apart ever since. I have a very grim outlook as far as the future is concerned. I think we are at a huge turning point for humanity.

Not only have I felt like things have been getting worse, but it also feels like time is moving wayyy faster than it used to. A day and a week flies by in the blink of an eye. Time is just moving so rapidly and everyone I've discussed this with pretty much agrees. Something big is going down and I don't know what it is.

The longer you're around the wider your field of vision becomes. I'm in my mid 50s The older you get the more loss you suffer --- mainly because you're around longer to accumulate that loss.

We've had some good periods and some not-quite-so-good periods. I'll echo what others here have said. In my view, as a child of the Cold War, we are at a dangerous crossroads unprecedented in my lifetime. I mean that sincerely. I've lived through the Cuban Missile Crisis and the rest of the 'we will crush you' threats of the Kremlin. This was a country --- a country with nuclear arms on a par with us -- that was openly hostile to us. Any accident or missinterpretation of an event could have resulted in an unimaginable nuclear conflagration. Remember, back then we were talking megatonnage, not kilotonnage (not that that should be much of a comfort now). We were lucky. It didn't happen.

Since that time there has been a concerted, behind the scenes mission (by some unseen group) toward some agenda. This agenda has pushed the US into several wars of questionable objective, resulted in domestic and economic decisions that make no sense whatsoever and have slowly eroded our international standing, international valuation, domestic stability and quality of life. Things are decidedly sliding down the chute and it's embarassingly clear. Yet no one in a position of authority seems to acknowledge what is happening right before their eyes. Either they are too out-of-touch to see this or they simply don't care. Either way we're screwed.

Unless.

The OP made a particularly sage observation. The internet allows us --- the little people :: irrespective of our generation or social place or ethnicity or education --- to communictae one-to-one. Beyond their immediate control. We and (I believe) we alone have the ability and resources to thwart their plans. We can soooo screw them up if we put our collective mind to it.

That, I believe, is our only possible salvation. Sincerely people. I've seen alot in my lifetime. We're on the precipice right now. If we don't somehow find a way to pull things back I truly, truly fear we are about to see a change in direction in the world that we will all live the rest of our lives bitterly regretting.

Well said jtma508. The world has certainly changed for the worst. I can't believe how Great Britain has changed so much under New Labour in just 10 years. The younger generation today have no respect and are totally out of control. All they care about is reality TV, wealth, fame, and sex. Talk about being dumbed down. Crime is on the increase and there's no longer any trust or honesty within our society. Even the TV corporations are committing fraud on a regular basis and getting away with it.

What can you say about Great Britain under those cronies New Labour. They have completely trashed everything that was once good about our country and now there about to put the final nail in our coffin when they hand over our sovereignty to those fascist EU beauracrats without even a vote or a debate in the house of commons. New Labour has sold us all out and I can only see things getting worst, unless of course people wake up and take immediate action.

I wouldn't rely on the internet to thwart their plans either. New Labour already have plans to police the internet from next year and any conspiracy website that is considered helpful to terrorists will be immediately closed down. What's New Labour's definition of a terrorist? It's unclear, but I bet it's only a matter of time before it includes everyone who speaks out against the EU or our corrupt government.

The grieving process is not set in stone in terms of time and i appreciate your lack of willingness to speak to a therapist - it is a hard thing to do considering many people believe therapy is for those that are "crazy" or "really messed up."

I am concerned for you in respect of the fact your loved one passed in 2003 and you say your life has been "sh*t" from that point.

The grieving process requires 2 things for it to be processed properly -

(1) For your loss and your feelings around it to be communicated to another person.

(2) A meaning be attached to the loss.

For this purpose therapy is a safe place where such things can be discussed and ultimately, a persons "reality" can improve significantly over time. That being said and as i alluded to earlier, it is scary at first and remarkably hard work.

I am also of the opinion putting ones hand up and saying "i need to speak to someone" is one of the most courageous things a person can do.

Whatever you choose to do, i wish you all the best. And before you ask yes i work in mental health
