I was recently diagnosed with the BPPV version (Benign Positional) for which a good Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat doc an do a test for in his office.
I woke up one morning and could NOT get out of the bed - it was VERY scary. I suffered for 3 months - my regular doc put me on antibiotics, said there was definitely fluid on my right ear and it was giving me an earache - but once the earache cleared up - I still had the vertigo when lying down or sitting back up. Finally went to the ear specialist and he tested me and gave me the Epley Appington manuever to do and the vertigo went away within 3 applications. Sad to say it does come back periodically - but I do the manuever and it goes away for a spell. I REALLY wish I knew what exactly was causing this -but also over three years ago I had symptoms of Lyme disease and had a positive marker for Bartonella. Any link??????? Who knows?
I also recently got denied for an insurance policy - I am self-employed - one of the reasons listed - was vertigo!!!!!!!!!!1

It IS more common lately.
My feeling is that it is directly related to the outbreak of sinus/respiratory/chronic coughing issues of late.
I track these symptoms worldwide.

Probably due to chemical and other variables present
in the atmosphere -
as well as a general breakdown of the body due to an
abundance Electromagnetic waves.

Take a look at the trouble the animals are having.
Bats, Bees, Geese, frogs - to name just a few.
Remember - We are animals too.
Our immune systems are struggling.

This is actually pretty interesting.
I had an extremely bad case of the flu that turned to pneumonia as well.
I was bedridden from Christmas to January 4th or 5th.
I had vertigo for about a week.
I could roll from my left to right side on the bed and the entire room would spin in a circle.
I figured it was from thickening of the fluid in my inner ear.
I guess it is going around.

It is going around. Pneumonia is on the rise. People that do not normally have respiratory issues are having them. There is a higher incidence of exhaustion as well. It is also not so easy to get rid of. Sort of hangs around longer than you would expect.
This is a real thing. And it is not normal for us.

Well it sure wasn't normal.
I've never missed 2 weeks of work from being sick.
Boy did I feel bad. It was surprisingly bad.

I dealt with this with my mother last year. We also thought she was having a stroke.
While vertigo may seem simple, it is a horrible feeling condition.

I suffer from mild forms of it, fluid in the inner ear is not quite right sometimes.
vertigo is common. And the problem is, that it can attack at any time without notice. My mother has had to slump in the hallway at work before.

I am sorry your mother is dealign with it.

It is kind of a generic term like migraine.

It can be caused by colds, viruses, weather changes, infections, etc.

I actually fell over at work once, because I had a cold, which sets me up for vertigo, and then the pressure changed suddenly. Went from like 70 degrees to 50 degrees and raining.

Whoa that did it. *spinning and thunk*

went to the doc, he said changes in air pressure have a big effect too. Some people are just extremely sensitive. Which is why this occurs more in the fall and winter. That and colds.

What kills me is that they can do heart and lung transplants, but they can' cure vertigo.

That, yes.

I've seen a lot of posts around here recently that sound a fair bit like sinus infections to me. Those can cover a surprising number of symptoms including headaches, dizziness, fatigue and fever... even nausea and upset stomach.

Also, not everyone gets the coughs and sneezes we associate with sinus issues. A little pressure and an "overstuffed head" feeling, maybe a mild cough... that might be all the warning you get, depending on what's affected. We're just entering the season for that kinda thing, so...

Last week my wife had the same problem, after the third day she went to a doctor who sent her to the ER, They had her do xrays of neck and back then cat scan her head. They came up with nothing! It continued for a couple days after as well. I am surprised that her conditions have showed up with other people on this site though.
