When I was one year old, my parents heard me laughing in my sleep. They later discovered that the night I was laughing, was the same exact date of my dead great aunt. What makes this weirder is that I am the first born on both sides of my family since the 50s.

So did my great aunt made me laugh in my sleep because I was the first child she has seen in awhile? Or is this just a coincidence?

If anyone has a logical explanation for this, I would like to know.

My son used to laugh in his sleep all the time. It's common for people of all ages to laugh, talk, etc. in their sleep.

I wouldn't say this is proof of an afterlife. It's not really even good evidence. It appears to be just a coincidence.

Well that was the only time I laughed in my sleep in all of my 22 years of living.

It must have been a REALLY funny dream then.

Or maybe nobody has heard you laugh in your sleep because you sleep alone now.

It would take more than that to convince me of the possibility of an afterlife.

But, hey, I'm just one internet curmudgeon. You should think what you want to about it, right?

Yep i'm with MM on this one.. i remember when i was little my cousin would sleep over or vice versa and he would talk, laugh and make all sorts of noises when he slept

my uncle, different side of the family though, also talks a lot in his sleep

seems like this is just a coincidence to me, and even if it isn't it isn't i don't see where the connection between this event and the afterlife

That's the thing about humans, we all have different beliefs.

I'm glad that this isn't one of those fights like you and madnessinmysoul versus JesusisTruth.

Obviously, there must be an afterlife if you laughed in your sleep 22 years ago

I don't think that there is a "logical" explination for this. At least not one that's going to be believed by others. What makes this difficult for otherse to swallow is your lack of remembering what happened. It might be true but who knows?

Speaking of proof of an afterlife. Since there's not much offered here I give you

A Glimpse of Eternity
Ian was night diving off the island of Mauritius when he was stung multiple times by Box Jellyfish, which are among the most venomous creatures in the world. His testimony relates how he clung to life while getting to hospital, was declared clinically dead soon afterwards, and how during this time he had an encounter with God, which radically changed the direction of his life.

While some dismiss this a fanciful tricks of the mind I challenge you to view this and not believe that there is life after death. Of course you should make up your own mind, but do watch the video in any case. If nothing else it's better than most of the stuff on prime-time television.

NDE is not proof of an afterlife. It's how the brain works when it thinks it's dying, in order to ease the transition. Just like how some animals go into shock when caught by predators.

The brain releases '___'-like chemicals, which produce these effects.

But you knew I was going to say that.

And the winner is WIND!

I'll bet the farm on it. I always have a good chuckle to myself when I let go with a good air biscuit.

Wide awake or fast asleep. I chuckle.

Laughter Rocks!

And how does Darwin explain this trait? I fail to see how a trait that happens at death can be something that evolution favors. Animals that go into shock and lie still to be eaten are more likely to not pass on this trait.

There is no life after death, just like there is no light from your flashlight after you turn it off. But from who's point of view? The light continues through space and time forever despite what you see with your own two eyes. Just because we can't see the after life with science doesn't invalidate it. It's as if driving through Cleaveland disproves the existance of quasars because you didn't encounter any while you were there.

it could have been part of a complex of genes. those that carried this trait also happened to carry one that was incredibly beneficial to survival.

remember, the singular trait doesn't have to be beneficial, it's the total of all traits that the creature has.

Alot of these people were pronouced dead, but then after the NDE they came back. Also everyone who experiences an NDE is completely changed after it.

Not really evidence or proof of an aferlife, but there relly isnt anyway to say wether or not it wasnt her playing with you. It really lies in your perception of the event really.

Hmmmm... hey i guess this is possible you may have been visited by an aunt OR it was a dream. BUT, I know of a number of my family that have experiences - something when someone in the family has passed. Especially an uncle that could see "ghosts/spirits" yes SEE them - not "sense" them like all these other psychics one sees on TV. My cousin had an experience when he was about 3 with my grandfather that passed a couple of days before - that's almost 25 years ago - taking from it an item that he never had but was promised by my grandfather. My uncle had an experience with the other aunts in the car, after being at the hospital, when one of my aunts passed; his sister.

I have had an experience with my best friend passing about 9 years ago a couple of days after he passed. So i have to say yes, i do believe in the afterlife. Then it begs the question, why don't see see them again so far down the line - reincarnation maybe or they are now at peace where they are? Who knows (??) but i do believe in the afterlife or life after death.

Pronounced dead isn't really dead. If you were really dead you wouldn't come back.

So everyone who experiences an NDE is changed by it. That doesn't mean anything more than the fact that it appeared to be something so unusual and powerful that it changed their perspective.

Since NDEs around the world are very similar, no matter what someone's faith, it suggests that it is a function of the brain upon advent of death or near death, rather than an actual traveling to another realm of reality.

[edit to add] If it really was some sort of supernatural event, it wouldn't be reproducible under laboratory conditions (through use of certain drugs) or experienced by pilots under certain conditions. There have been pilots and scientists that have had NDEs induced -- they never were pronounced dead -- and their lives weren't changed by it because they understand it is a brain phenomenon.

Skeptic Dictionary states that induced NDE are different than natural. And it also states that they havent been able to explain why some people see the entire operation and what they are doing when they float above.

do you have any thoughts on this?

(pardon my grammer, arms torn from workout just now)
