This was bound to be a provocative thread, we would all love to distil out the good bits of America and discard the bad.
Wars aside though, those in agreement with the title of the thread should realise that America is a capitalist country, that is the very essence of it's existence.

As such, for it to 'live long and prosper', it continually needs to find new markets and avenues for it's products.
In time, ipods etc will find their way into Iran and other 'like-minded' countries.
It is human nature to embrace new technologies and 'those in charge' will not stop it.
Funny how all governments however bad, always crave the latest 'killing machines'.

The whole basis of this thread is very silly. The point about wanting Iran to have nukes is the most naive and irresponsible comments I have ever heard….and the reason for it…"because we have them"??!!??!?

The difference is simple. America does not "bully" other countries as you and others have said. We are not in Iraq to bully or police it's people. We are there because there was a ruthless dictator bent on genocide ruling it. We are there because Islamic fascism is spreading like wild fire across the earth. We are there because no one else will stop it from happening. The world has become pacifist and far too liberal. We can not sit idly by and watch terrorist destroy the world. We, as Americans, take it upon ourselves to defend freedom all over the world. Whether or not you can see that is a personal problem. As I said before, your judgment is clouded by hatred.

The other main difference is that while America does have nuclear weapons, it has no desire to use them. While if Iran had nuclear weapons, they would use them in a heartbeat; and not just on America. They would destroy the entire world.

We as Americans will not let that happen while the rest of the world sits back and pretends there isn't a problem.

There is no way Iran would use their nuclear weapons anymore than China or Russia will. They are not suicidal as a country. You can believe you are fighting the war of freedom if you like, and I guess thats what you have been told you are, but from my European point of view, your country is acting crazy.

Thats the kind of pacifist attitude I'm referring to. What difference does it make who "provoked this war". The fact remains that there is real evil in this world, and no one else has the guts to do anything about it. Most people would just stand by while their country was being destroyed, and still not want to retaliate.

Sometimes we just can't sit around and wait to be attacked first. Playing defense in a situation like this will only cost more lives.

I do agree United States have done alot of good things in the past, with russians they crushed Nazi Germany and for that i am greatful. Somehow i feel like USA is an aggressive and dangerous nation to world peace in these days. If Iran is making a nuclear bomb, we should first try sanctions and politics, not an aggressive strike. Also United States need absolute proof efore they attack, or it is not justified.

I think Iraq war was horrible mistake and only made matters worse for Iraq citizens. I think we can all agree on this, some estimates say that over one million Iraq people are dead. Why? Because saddam was evil and could have had weapons of mass destruction hidden away? If you ask Iraq people are they happy that Saddam is gone and with Saddams departure we see 1 million people of their country dead. If they could choose i'm sure that they would take back Saddam and 1 million Iraq people.

I'm not saying Saddam was not evil, he sure was an evil man and did lot of harm to Iraq people, but going in to war to remove him for Iraq's freedom was the wrong way, i doubt there is anymore freedom there now than there was before.

To the poster that said Russians could not take down Uk and USA, you are dead wrong. With Russians new MIRW nuclear missiles, they could take down the whole world with a push of a button.

America is hated throughout the world and even a large section of Europeans are anti American. I'm not going to have a go at the Americans though, I can't talk, England is pretty much hated for the same reasons. What can you do but stick together! I hate American policy but I don't judge the American people on decisions of afew crazy individuals. I think most of the world have a love hate relationship with the USA. We grow up as children watching the amazing films coming out of Hollywood, we listen to music such as HipHop and we dress ourselves with such labels as Nike and Adidas. There are alot of beautiful things to come out of the USA. I think what frustrates people is how beautiful things could be if America used it's resources to better effect. An argument we have here in England is maybe we should focus on our own problems at home instead of gallivanting around the world helping other people, because most of the time it's not appreciated is it?

Ahum. As an American it´s easy to feel offended by the OP given that the lobbyists, mainstream media and education in America is basically bombarding Americans with the fact that what "we" do is good. It starts in kindergarden or even earlier. You pledge allegiance to the flag every day.

No wonder that if anyone attacks those beliefs you get upset. Same goes for anyone questioning official stories with regards to o, say 9/11, JFK, IRAQ, Federal Reserve, (should I go on?).

Ofcourse you are upset. You are not being told the whole story and nothing but the whole story. Apart from mainstream media like CNN I have started to get my news from the english edition of the Arabian news network station AlJazeera because I simply want to see all sides of the story, not just the Israëli flavoured side of it. I highly recommend viewing the English edition of Aljazeera, and if you cannot get it on cable or satellite there is always the internet (english.aljazeera.net).

Yes I too think there is something wrong with the world, especially in America as it is most visible. This is not neccessarily the fault of Bush/Cheney, but rather the whole system your legal and political system is founded on. Which is: Money, Cash, Dinero. The true rulers of the United States are the powerful lobbyists who can steer any politician in any direction they want by picking and funding their favorite candidate(s).

It really does not matter which party the candidate is from, and it will not matter who is going to be in the White House next fall. Promises will be made, campaigns will be funded, and yes money will be made by the lobbyists - or those they represent - in the war(s) to come.

War is and has always been the single most profitable event in world history. Wars are created, and bankers and industrialists profit from it. They do not care who wins, as long as the conflict goes on for as long as possible.

Look at Iraq, war was created, and is dragged on. I need not remind anyone on ATS who is profiting from that.

So no, take it from a Dutch citizen: U.S.A. must NOT go, rather the system which is ruling the U.S.A. MUST go. The same system (call it N.W.O. Corrupt corporate politics and greed) applies to much of the rest of the world I might add, and it must go.

By whatever means available and the sooner the better.
