Orion, I apologise for one of the biggest screw-ups I've made! I owe you guys some casks of beer! So what's it about? Well, the pic I posted above seems to be a moon of Saturn named 'Atlas'. It's no UFO for God's sake, though it looks strangely like one!! I need to be clobbered hard for not checking it out before posting!

Mike, that Moon fooled me too the first time i've seen it: Heck, it has the shape of the classic flying saucer, pretty easy to fall into the trap: when i saw it, i've been able to track back the original from saturn.jpl and after reading the caption and comparing it with other Atlas images, i realized that it actually was Atlas. The best (and shorter) way is to post it, as you did, in order to gather more infos about it. So no apologies are needed at all, IMHO, and thank you for sharing it, my friend

yeaaahaaaa yea maan i want get me a ticket, really i cant wait to get of this primitive planet.... all i dream of from when i was 5 years old no joke is space ufos and aliens dont ask me how its possible but i know and remember those things and really i duno why, just read a bit about it when i was 10 more when i was 15 and even more when i was 22..... it always fascinated me. always hoping for an encounter, always hoping for exploring the universe, oh well i keep dreaming heh

I saw this photograph somewhere else, and it was much better quality, either at a NASA site or a hubble site?, I can no longer remember. Someone obviously wants it out.

First, please let me introduce myself since i am new to the forum. I've been an underground, closet case ufo/alien buff.... I've been lurking in the shadows here at ATS for a couple of months now and this is one of the stories that has me is complete aw.

The fact that the French are putting this in news papers and that our govt. has given their usual sketchy dismissals is upsetting. With crafts of this size so close (on the galactic scale of close to far ) you would think that this would be in the media. Multiple objects so big... whose to say what they could possibly be, and i'm not in disagreement about doomsday ships, maybe they are going to come here and evacuate the planet, or maybe they will play a part in our over all demise??? who knows?!?! the most striking thing to me is that except for the french and for the readers of ATS no one seems to have noticed.

you'd think more people would be interested in a few ufo's that are as big as our own planet.

I question the validity of this picture. Looks VERY SIMILAR to a shot taken of the broken shuttle tether floating off into space with an alien craft flying by it. I've seen the video of it on YouTube. This looks like a still photo from the video.

Nope! It's not the broken tether from the famous 'Tether Incident'. This pic was taken in infra red by the Russian probe, Phobos II on March 25, 1989 before it was 'destroyed'. Or shall we say malfunctioned and lost.

Needless to say, the Russians monitoring the probe insisted that it was destroyed, whatever that means!!

Without wishing to sound negative... it seems that some people don't let the actual facts get in the way of a good story!

The facts and evidence should dictate the story, and not the other way around.

With the OP clearly (and very helpfully) stating that the initial photo was one of Saturn's own moons, and the other showing a large white blob being approached by a thin white blob... (on a photo with no provenance to speak of other than being told it from a Russian mission, with no official links of descriptions), how we can have discussions about 'mining vessels', and all sorts of planet size space ships, and missions for humans to seed the galaxy amazes and saddens me.

I pray for more objective reasoning in the field in the future. I am a believer in UFOs, EBEs, and all sorts, but I am also a pragmatist that needs quantifiable evidence and facts that can be analyzed. I want empirical evidence that can determine things 'beyond reasonable doubt', not people's creative imaginations and fiction based on the slightest blurry images.

Until this new approach is taken, I fear we will always be in the dark
