Russian Leader Calls For Urgent Delivery Of Anti-aircraft Missile Systems To Iran

www.nasdaq.com

Vice Chairman of Russia's Parliament Duma, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, has urged the fast delivery of the sophisticated S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems to Iran to enable the Middle Eastern country to defend its air space, the Press TV reported. Zhirinovsky was addressing the open session of Duma on Wednesday.

The new generation anti-aircraft / anti-missile weapon system developed by the Russian Almaz Central Design Bureau is capable of detecting and destroying targets up to a range of 250 miles...

Would these anti-aircraft missile systems make much of a diffrence to a US attack on IRAN? Seems as if RUSSIA wouldnt just sit back and watch IRAN being hammered into the gground.

Well those missile systems wouldn't help at all if they were not there at all, but since they are going to be there, then I guess they will help some, right???

I don't think it would be in Russia's best interest to allow the "hammering" of Iran into the ground... What would you suggest, that Russia starts buying their oil needs from America?

The US can jam the whole country with one aircraft. The problem with a radar system is about the time they turn on the radar a cruise missile is inbound. Self guided missile are better but then they need to know somehow that there is a plane there.

I knew that name Zhirinovsky rang a bell, I remember that old nut job, seems he'e still around.

He is also well known for his boasts pertaining to other countries, having expressed a desire to reunite countries of the ex-Soviet "near abroad" with Russia, and dreaming of a day "when Russian soldiers can wash their boots in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean".[5] Zhirinovsky has advocated forcibly retaking Alaska, dumping nuclear waste in Germany, and using nuclear weapons against Japan.[6]

Source:en.wikipedia.org...

As can be seen the guy is a complete nutjob and his statements should be taken with a grain of salt.

Mod Edit: Proper sourcing of external material.

First of all, Zhirinovsky as vice chairman? the Zhirinovsky ultranationalist?damn i didnt know that this demagogue came so far! remember what this man told about Germany?..the US?

S-400 would be the sugar on top on Iran's air defence system[and why should the Almaz bureau not make money of this?], i wonder if those cruise missiles come through this defense, let alone aircraft..
Jamming the country before the missile assault would be a good idea if those new systems arent turned off..emp would be good if those systems arent hardened..
I think they'll spare some of these radars after the stealth and tomahawk bombings by turning it off so they could shoot down the "regular" hornets and eagles and whatever they throw at them afterwarts..
But damn if they supply these weapon systems, what kind of radars do these persians have [already] ?

I'm kinda wonderin' what's goin' on with Russia. They're 'testing' cruise missiles over the Arctic. Which they've taken a big chunk of, by the way. What's next? Will there even be a Treaty of Versaille to attempt appeasement?

They're running Nukes again, Cold War style. Have we resumed our flights? If we take out that fancy new Bushehr reactor, how pissed will they be?

I agree, there is definitely a cold war resemblance now except now the little guys have bombs too and its not just chess with two people anymore. There is another thread about a movie called Threads, it will disturb you but I think it is very similar to current events. It is about a cold war going hot.

Anyone else find it odd that this news report broke first on a financial news site?

None of the major news sources seem to have anything on it as of right now. Only financial news sources. The primary sources are Nasdaq

See for yourselves.

Seems like this should be major news on every outlet, but for now it is only a financial news story?

I thought that was strange as well as soon as I saw the source article was Nasdaq. Of course I also though tit would be major news, but instead we have the following. On FOX Bill O Reily is telling me the popcorn is not good for the lungs. On CNN Headline News we have Nancy Grace doing what she does best, spinning some story without having all the facts. On MSNBC Olberman is talking about that stupid dog that inherited 12 million. Helmsley's dog (I will never understand the rich, you will leave 12 million to a freakin dog but we can't seem to properly fund a homeless shelter or help people with job training) and on CNN we a re seeing a video laying the last chuck on The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco...oops wait, now they are running a promo for Larry King's interview will Bill Clinton.

Things in Iran are really heating up and by the time the public figures out what is going on it will be WAY too late to stop it.

For years now the U.S has watched Iran build their millitary, weapons programs and nuclear capabilities. Because of the war and other factors known and unknown, the U.S has been apprehensive to put a halt to Iran.
Now a clear message by Russia in amongst all the recent rhetotic, as well as what can only be described as a re-institution of the cold war. My friends ..it's not going to get any better is it? As UM Gazz stated this source came as financial news. This can't be a good thing. Please tell me I'm wrong.

Guess why Russia would love to take out US and America?
1)Alaska
2)So no one else can take the North Pole, I mean what are Canadians going to
do if USA falls? All we will say is "Meh North Pole was not that great anyway".

Russia, China, Iran, Syria, Venezuela, and Cuba vs America, Canada, UK, Israel, and maybe UN? This will be a catastrophic war, because of all the nukes each country has. Maybe Bush knew all along that Russia, and China were on Iran's side and that is why he has that many troops in Iraq.
This war will destroy many lives, and once it ends guess what! A few years down the road we will probably be ignorant and have another war until we wipe out 3/4ths of the planet. Then maybe we can learn a good lesson about fighting with each other rather then trying to advance in technology.

Maybe a war like this is just what this world needs to end the greed and help us not take life for granted anymore.

Well financial news is one of the few real news outlets left. So I'm not surprised. Unless The Duma had a statement about dogfighting I dont think the Yellow Journalism Cable news would care.

Russia is in no state to take on the vastly superior US military. Russia can help to arm Iran, Russia doesnt mind getting a few pennys and dimes out of Iran before gas and oil go sky high (which equals more revenue for russia). Honestly, i bet russia wants to see a conflict between the US and Iran for purposes such as that.

seems like we are on the eve of war.. another war that is

does anyone think we'll hit Iran before we are out of Iraq?

well normally i wouldn't think so but right now it seems very plausible..

i've said it before and i'll say it again, we're living in some very exciting times

I am a bit out to lunch on weapons technology, but won't it take some time to send, deliver, install and train Iranian forces to use something like this? I don't think an advanced air defense system is like installing a microwave oven.

My point is that if this is a direct result of Iran preparing for Israeli/US airstrikes then won't it be too late (assuming we are on the eve of war) for the Iranians to acquire such technology?

Or does this indicate that the Iranians, although they assume a air assault is inevitable, don't think it will happen for some time?

TruthWithin, that would at least explain the Russian call for 'urgent delivery' of this weapons system to Iran.

I'm not sure about the specifics, but perhaps it is a mobile system?

The most ominous part of the original report linked in the opening post:

Experts say the S-400 can tackle cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and aircraft made with low observable materials such as the American 'stealth' bomber.

It sounds like this could be 'the best' system Russia can offer Iran. If it could in fact bring down cruise missiles, and the stealth bomber.

If it has these capabilities... This is clearly a signal that perhaps Russian intelligence expects U.S. attacks on Iran soon. And is a clear message that Russia will help in the defense of Iran.

I'm still puzzled as to why this broke as a financial news report, after the markets closed for the day.
