I read a theory, many years ago (forgot who by, but I believe it was a biologist) who was adamant that asymmetrical lifeforms were unlikely to exist, as it is not the most economic form for life to take - i.e. it would have been "weeded out" under darwinian theory.

this would imply that only on an earth-like system or environment, life forms would be possible at all, which is, imho, unlikely to say the least.

Why can't they look like people? Maybe we are how intelligent life evolves or created. The human body is an evolutionary marvel. There may come a time when we venture deep out into outspace and find that many other intelligent life forms have developed in nearly the same way as us.

The fact that aliens have been reported as bipedal, humanesque in appearance may shed some interesting light onto the broader history of our planet.....or even where else "we" may come from.

I once watched a program, pardon me for not furnishing a link since it was some time ago, and I cannot recall the program or the person who was speaking to the camera, but whether he was speaking for or against the idea of so many similar aliens he said that for so many species to have deleped in such a similar fashion, they would have had to originate from the same place.

Maybe Earth has been the cradle for dozens or hundreds of "alien" races who find themselve now at home among the starts, based under-ground, or beneath the seas.

Still perhaps we are in a way alien to this planet.....Just because the human race (primative or present) came of age here....doesn't mean we originated here.

Aliens could have seeded this world.....Aliens could have grown up here....Those same aliens could have moved on, and in some place/fashion early man or its precursor could have been replanted here, only to develope into us (Either the elder races moved on leaving the planet to the animals so they could develope...Or maybe early man was on another planet in a similar situation as Polar Bears are today, and the decision was made to relocate the primitive populous to a fresh environment that it could thrive in.).

What I'd like to know is how will the world transition from one where UFO's and visitors are concealed to one where you'd swear you'd tripped and fallen into Star Wars...?

Why?

Uhhhh

because that's what they have?

Seems to be a pretty tidy and effective form factor.

I don't recall other types being ever mentioned in the literature. Could be. Just don't recall such.

Even the reptoid demonic monster types from hell seem to fit that form.

well back in Roswell it was to easiest way to fake a army video of a alien

and their are some theories about why they look simler

some think they wanted to play god so they made us

some think that back when we were just cave men we looked a lot more like our cousins the monkeys and when they first saw us they knew we where to stupid to survive long so they came down and showed us how to survive speek ect. but when they came down they saw that our females where extremely attractive so they mated with them and that's how we are today

I would venture that the aliens that may be drawn to this planet come here because the environment suits them, in so far as gravity atmosphere etc.

In our environment, the human form is the most adapatble, as the sensory organisation provides us with the best chances of survival. It makes sense that creatures from a similar environment would therefore take a similar form, doesn't it?

Other types may exist elsewhere, but ask yourself this question - if you could go to somewhere more suited to yourself wouldn't that be more preferable?

Well the most obvious answer is the theory of panspermia, which is that humanoid life-forms throughout the universe share a common ancestry and that planets are seeded by intelligent races--a bit like applying evolution on a universal scale.

Another reason about the basic scale of humans and ETs matching is that the physical structure of the universe is obviously universal--i.e., atoms are the same size everywhere--and that intelligence requires a certain brain size to manifest itself.

And finally symmetry is the most efficient means to promote locomotion and co-ordination. You need two eyes to have stereo vision, two ears to be able to locate a sound, two legs to walk--three appendages is not going to offer any advantages, one leaves you with severe disadvantages.

the simple answer is that they are psychic projections of our own minds and not physical realities; after all the odds that an alien life form's physical arrangements would resemble ours are very small.

The same way that people thought the universe evolved around the earth, this same way people think all inteligent life must look like humans.

Most people have a small imagination and find it hard to see anything beyond their dayly experiences.

What makes you think they are from another planet?
It's a big world and much lies below it's surface...

Which is, I believe, what I posted on the previous page - albeit in slightly different language.

Also posted the galactic seeding theory - or doesn't anyone read the whole thread anymore

no
there's a difference between saying that symmetrical (or humanoid, anyway) would be predominant/everything else rooted out by evolution, and saying that it would make sense to only "visit" environments that suit your species' construction

and edit, the seeding theory never made much sense to me, the intentional seeding anyway ... and if "ur" lifeforms (like bacteria or below) would have been the seed, then i think the outcome could/would be different depending on the environment.

i agree with neformore, but it depends entirely upon the level of ELE's and mass extinctions....

just to add to the thread have a look at this....the first 4 mins are pretty irrelevant but if you skip to 4.54 it becomes a whole lot more interesting.....it theorizes how dinosaurs would have evolved if the asteroid missed....similar to us.....

how would dinosaurs look

apologies if its rubbish, just thought it was worth a look

Nature works in basic templates.

I believe the idea is a called Morphic forms. If an animal is a predator the eyes are usually foward facing. It doesn't matter what continent it is on. If an animal eats from the tops of trees, it will have a long neck. If an animal runs alot, the feet, legs and hips will be geared as such. This is true no matter what kingdom the organism is from or where it is. There are basic templates nature seems to follow. Provided below are links for further explanation.

stewart ... again, geo/anthropocentric view imo.

edit (bah, i should wait hitting the post button a bit today, not a single post w/o editing) ... you're right for earthly matters of course. but why does earth's rules have to universally apply? what if there's no trees? what if it's dark, and there's no eyes? what if there's no terra firma, and running is no option? that's what i'm wondering.

i dont normally do this, but im lol'ing at some of the replies here. maybe if im not to tired to post when i get home from work, ill give my opinion on the issue, but it would probably take to long to nit pick at the post that make me got wtf, and then take the time to educate. im not the all knowing god of the universe, but this forum seems to be like most internet forums.
alot of honest opinions not based to deeply in actual research. each and everthing you say and say as if pure fact should always be checked, and double checked. im not very well versed in ufo stuff at all. not my forum, but i can speak on a few other things. i know everyone hates condescending post like this, but im not trying to come off like a know it all, just someone who recognizes when people say stuff thats not completely true, and thats just due to years of reading tons of stuff, and coming across solid arguments saying otherwise. thats why i post less, and read more. i only post this because i want people reading these replies to not take some things said as absolute truth, and run with it because it sounds good, and makes enough since to you. i guess in saying that, i am forced to reply with something worthwhile. i will try tonight. im tired. (yawn)

If that was the case then "beauty", is truely in the eye of the beholder! (LOL)

Who knows for sure. . . You could be right TBE. It is strange how accounts of their features parallel our own. Maybe evolution is universal.

Maybe they are us from the future-

At least that would explain why they still have lights on their vehicles.
