Ok the rules are as follows, post only the one cover song and the original in each post and give your rating of the cover out of 10. If there is more than one cover version by different artists for the song, choose the cover that you think is the best. When posting start by giving your rating of the previous posters cover song.

Not too many will agree with my rating of this song i'm willing to bet but i've always liked it.

Great white - Substitute, Cover: my rating 8/10.

The Who - Substitute, Original

Next, and dont forget to give your rating of the previous posters cover song.

Bla! you totally stole my idea!
I had a bunch of covers picked out but I figured I posted enough youtube stuff for tonight. Great minds think alike.

I'd give Great White a 3/10 on that one.

T-Rex - Bang A Gong (Original)

The Power Station - Get It On (Cover) Rating 6/10

Sorry Cug, if it makes you feel any better, great minds do think alike.

Dylan i think agreed that hendrix version was the best and Bob even started to do it Jimi's way later. 10/10 for that cover.

Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World, Cover: 7/10

Havent heard that cover before Cug, and if you dont mind i'd prefer not to ever again.
1/10.

Pink Floyd - Have A Cigar, the Original.

Primus - Have A Cigar, the Cover. 8/10.

I like the Primus cover, they havent changed it too much musically but their own unique style still shows through.

I think it's odd.. but way better than a Pat Boone cover 5/10 at least Johnny has some soul.

Gary Glitter - Do you wanna touch me (Original) Very creepy now that we know. ::shiver::

Joan Jett - Do You Wanna Touch Me (Cover) 10/10 You could post all day with Joan's covers.

7/10

Shakira, man where do I start? Well for the lack of a better term.. she is missing soul. Well maybe attitude is a better word.

I think it was Steve Allen who had a bit about presenting rock song lyrics the way one would perform poetry.. it's kinda like that. 5/10

Most people don't know this was a cover song.

Big Mama Thornton - Hound Dog (orginal) (Buddy Guy on guitar)

Elvis Presley - Hound Dog (Cover) 10/10 What can I say.. it's a classic.

The Blues had a Baby and they called it Rock -n- Roll

10/10 for Elvis.

The Kinks - You Really Got Me (original)

Van Halen - You Really Got Me (cover)

I give Van Halen a 8/10 for this one.

10/10 for VH, that one of (many) my fav songs.

The Sweet - Ballroom Blitz (Original)

Krokus - Ballroom Blitz (Cover) 6/10

Even though i'm a Krokus fan (eat the rich roks) i'll only give that a 6/10. Have you heard Ravens version of Hellraiser, now that really rocks.

The Beatles - Come Together, The Original

Aerosmith - Come Together, the Cover. 7/10

I really like the Soungarden cover of Come Together but i think the Aerosmith cover is probably more widely known.

GREAT idea for a thread.

You've really got to be a fan of maritime folk to like this, which I am:

But done better by Metallica:

BOLD remake. Metal does maritime(Irish) music? If this translates to a few metalheads listening to bands like the Pogues, well done.

10/10. Imo.

Nope I havent.

Aerosmith gets a 8/10 for that one.

Aerosmith - Mama Kin

Guns N' Roses - Mama Kin (Cover) 8/10 I always considered GnR to be the modern toxic twins.

::edit::

intrepid posted when I was typing.. I give Metallica a 10/10 for doing an obscure song!

I love that GnR cover, 9/10.

Black Sabbath - War Pigs, The Original

Faith No More - War Pigs, The Cover. 8/10. (sorry its a fairly long clip 9 mins but you get the idea after about 4 or 5 mins)

(can anyone tell if Mike Patton is brilliant or deranged or both )

I'd give soundgarden a 7/10 a good straight cover.

Kiss - Strutter (Original)

The Donnas - Strutter (cover)

GnR are the cover kings:

Live and let Die:

As good as McCartney, um NO. Do I have to post that song?

Hair of the Dog, I saw GnR as the new Nazareth, and they covered one of their songs. Who's better? I leave that up to you:

Nazareth:

Had a hard time finding GnR playing this song without Metallica or anyone else.

Don't get me going on Knocking on Heaven's Door.

Don't get me wrong. GnR were what was needed in a time that rock was dead. Their original stuff was GREAT. They should just NOT try to cover bands better than they are.

I'm partial to the Nazareth version. I'll give the GnR version a 6 - and there were bonus points involved for a shirtless Axel before he got really scary.

Here's more Nazareth, but this time they're doing the cover song.

Everly Brothers - Love Hurts (original)

Nazareth - Love Hurts (cover)

Nazareth gets a 10/10 from me.
