weird movie trailer (any hints?) Cloverfield

It could be BTS's official thread, so people know to post here rather than starting new threads.

When "Official" and "Unofficial" are next to each other that typically means it's not serious. I'm not even going to bother humoring your stuff about "clearance."

Perhaps if we put BTS in front of my suggestion that would make things okay? Like in the "BTS's Offical Transformers The Movie Thread." Would that pass your peeve test?

Also, I said Cloverfield/1-18-08...the slash means either or. And if this is going to be the only thread allowed on the movie a thread title a bit more proper should be put into place. Because unless we're going to just keep talking about the trailer here, and ignore the rest of the ARG thats unfolding around the movie, I think it's going to be outdated really fast. Especially after 8-1-07, when the next big announcement takes place.

Well, our very own Brax linked a new viral site to 1-18-08...Slusho.jp.

We don't know how it's related yet, but Brax's blog has the photographic proof from the film and an interesting tidbit on the codename used on production announcements.

New picture posted at 1-18-08.com. Not sure how it factors into the film, other than it taking place some time after the attack.

So far the ARG community has still only found the 1-18-08 and Slusho sites, but evidently there are a few more out there.

i promise, this thing is driving me insane.
i'm wondering where the 1-18-08 site is going with this. just releasing moveable pictures every now and then? ..all the way until january?
and personally, i can't really see the link to the slusho site.
or, i KNOW there's a link - the guy in the movie with the slusho t-shirt and jj abrams having "invented" slusho for alias, but.. i can't get a grip on the connection besides that. the history does nothing for me.
i hope someone finds more sites soon, or i'll just collapse in a puddle of drool. xD

and then i can't decide if the "demon" in the picture with the two (or one, as some claim) girls is a coincidence or not.

the only thing i'm sure about, is that it's not a godzilla movie. and i reeeally want them to say "i saw it, it's alive'n it's huge" rather than "it's a lion". i just won't be able to take a gigantic lion seriously.

They said "It's alive" not "Its a lion." There is a youtube video where someone disects the whole trailer to debunk some things. In a few parts they slow down the audio. Slowed down, it's much clearer that he says "It's alive. It's huge." In addition, they use the monster growl to contrast the Godzilla growl to show that, unless Paramount had a coup de eta and secured the rights to Godzilla, and they radically changed his growl, the two are not even close.

I thought Godzilla too when I first saw the trailer.

As for Slusho, I think this is sort of filler. JJ is going to use the whole traditional all giant monsters are from Japan angle. When you think about the trailer, and how they were wishing Rob "good luck in Japan," not to mention all the Asian influenced art and novelties in his apartment, you can see that there is definitely some connection to the orient. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a character from japan who breaks down what exactly the monster is.

I don't know if Slusho will directly play into the movie, but it's going to flesh out the "universe" so to speak. I think are more parts of that website are "updated for you" we'll be able to piece together how it connects more.

That being said, JJ mentioned that there were a few sites out there on the internet they set up. At the time we'd only found 1-18-08, and now we've found Slusho...who knows what else we need to find before this starts to make sense.

One other thought...this might just be a disaster film. Follow me on this...instead of a traditional movie about a disaster (in this case a giant monster attack) we see a movie that reflects back on the attack. Perhaps it's someone who is piecing together movies, pictures, interviews, of what happened that day. Like, the first Godzilla movie. It wasn't until the later movies that anything started to fight Godzilla. What if this just sets up the monster. Then, a few years later, we see our counter attack in some other movie/sequel. Maybe he's just creating a new "universe" with this film that he can introduce other characters and events into in the long run. Just some thoughts.

haven't seen the youtube movie tho, nice to hear it's final that they say "alive'n" instead of "a lion". really, if it had been a lion, i would just break down and cry my bitter tears.

i reckoned the slusho story was something you would need to break down and analyze, but that's not my.. thing, so i'll just leave that to someone else. i saw a comment somewhere that people thought it would be a giant whale, because "whale" is mentioned on the slusho site.
really. hahah. well, that i'd love to see. whale splashing around in nyc.

the thing i'm still wondering the most about, though, is the explosion and fireballs. i mean, it's a pretty big explosion - and those fireballs are flying pretty far away.. haven't seen many thoughts on that yet.

Interesting tidbit as to why a lot of people thought it was Godzilla. Godzilla in Japan is pronounced Gojira. This is a combination of Go, for gorilla, and jira, for whale. So, loosely translated Gojira means gorilla whale.

However, as I said, we know its not Godzilla.

The marketing behind this is brilliant. I too was on the edge of my seat as soon as the camera went to the roof top. It's funny because when this aired in the theatre, I could hear people saying how stupid that was, that it didn't even give the name of the movie. A few others were really complaining and saying that it was the most ridiculous thing they've ever seen. Then the same people were heard saying, "but I can't wait until it comes out!"

Oh man...have you seen that "fake" astronomy site that says, in messed up text, "I hope this reaches you in time. The monster in the image is on it's way to destroy your planet. We have sent our mightiest hero."

I read that and laughs my rear end off.

All those sites that are trying to look like official Cloverfield sites are ticking me off.
They are just trying to profit from this movie hype with deception.

Ethan Haas is a character in some table top RPG Alpha & Omega. Unfortunately, they got swept up in all the 1-18-08 hoopla.

ethan haas was the name of Jason Ritter's character in The Class. That was some crappy show that got cancelled after a few episodes.

I don't think jj was associated with it.

yes i knew that even before you said it, but yet the question reamins as to why this site is linked to all of the cloverfield clues, JJ said the HAAS sites were not linked to the movie, and some people said they were about a game thats coming out in the fall or something.

But i dont want to dissmiss it quite just yet since when that announcement came out they were still denying the movie existed at all over at Paramount. i just think the puzzle box seems like its in a crater in the middle of a city "could be NY" and we dont know what caused the explosion on the trailier so i'm ignoring that until i see something more tangible.

and ye it might be irrational on my part but i got a hunch on this.

On July 11, 2007 Wraith, a former writer for the now-defunct Total Gamer News, presented a theory (along with the following image supporting his claim) that Ethan Haas is a promo for the Mindstorm Labs game Alpha-Omega. (The beginnings of this theory, however, go all the way back to at least July 7, prior to Wraith's image comparison.)

OMGWTFEHWR?! which traced the Domain registration to the offices of Mind Storm Labs, who are producing Alpha Omega.

now about the line "i saw it its alive its huge" thats really the only thing that makes me think its godzilla cuz people dont know about surviving egg fromthe last movie, also it could be the smoke monster from lost they sound similar right

the sad part is that this trailer had me more exited than anything on the transformers movie
