one of my biggest pet peeves is "official" threads that are not official.

Only thing worse than hearing Godzilla is hearing people convinced it's Voltron.

Paramount and JJ Abrams have both stated Ethan Haas sites are not affiliated with this movie.
Ethan Haas is a character in some table top RPG Alpha & Omega. Unfortunately, they got swept up in all the 1-18-08 hoopla.
Alpha-Omega connection
On July 11, 2007 Wraith, a former writer for the now-defunct Total Gamer News, presented a theory (along with the following image supporting his claim) that Ethan Haas is a promo for the Mindstorm Labs game Alpha-Omega. (The beginnings of this theory, however, go all the way back to at least July 7, prior to Wraith's image comparison.)
If you finish all the puzzles at www.ethanhaaswasright.com, you can see the city in the background is badly wrecked, and if you look about an inch from the left, you can faintly see a similar image (including the tank) from the Alpha-Omega site.

Although not conclusive evidence of a connection, the solution for puzzle #5 "The beginning is the end" appears to be a slight variation on the biblical Alpha and Omega "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end." (Revelations 22:13)
The connection is further supported by
OMGWTFEHWR?! which traced the Domain registration to the offices of Mind Storm Labs, who are producing Alpha Omega.
