For one, anyone with a computer now a days could make ANY video they want. I could have taken the drone and made a viral vid for the new microsoft computer table, then you guys would be posting that all over. Halo 3?

If, and I repeat IF you are a company, and you want to sell say the Halo 3 thing, do you really think your time, energy and money is best spent spamming C2C and ATS with this drone? Common sense says....

The people on here buy books, videos, and fake moon rocks if anything at all.

Face it, there is no proof, contact, nothing to follow up on, no reliable witness to talk to about this drone, nada, nothing, zip.

WAY too much time and bandwidth has been wasted on this stupid thing.

Sorry to pee on your parade, but man. Not only do we have 3-4 threads on this already, a thread about deciphering the "language" lol!!, now we have two Halo 3 threads

Love you guys, but it's time we spent less time dealing with childrens pranks, hoaxes, and viral crap, and more energy on what's real.

My two cents.

Upon thinking about this a little more, I think I would believe this a lot more if they showed "new" footage of the drone, rather than just panning a shot of the pre-existing image. I would believe it 99% in fact, if it showed the drone "evolving" into it's fullest form.

I have to go
on this video. Sorry.

Yes, because:

See how that works? It's all about creating buzz. Getting people talking, which is exactly what these things have done, as you so eloquently pointed out.

Viral marketing isn't designed to be a mass market unit shifter, it's an attempt to get people talking about the product, before the product becomes available. It is low cost, and can potentially yield big returns. It's a wonder we don't see these kind of tactics more often.

Yet a few days ago, and for weeks prior, many people were absolutely and completely convinced this was a viral marketing campaign--for Transformers! I wonder if the Halo-3 guys and the Transformer guys have a cross-marketing agreement, or if maybe there's a third party involved and it ISN'T Halo OR Transformers, but is a long long lead in for "Indiana Jones 4; the drones of Area 51" where Indy will save us all from the New World Order Masonic Illuminanti Capitalist Pig Dogs! Hey, that's me! Maybe I can get a bit part!

I'm not saying it is or isn't. I'm trying to explain the motivation behind such a strategy. I know you have a better comprehension of English than that. Please try harder.

I found it interesting that the Transformers Sector 7 site had text written in Klingon. Do you think this is evidence of a "cross-marketing agreement" as well?

ok, no more posting of the so called halo viral marketing site folks. I have no clue if it is related to halo, transformers, chad or my aunt bessie but I do know that the site you were all referencing had about 10,000 links to porn (thanks for that by the way) and references to pedophilia, among other things.

As I'm sure it was all harmeless so you will see I went and removed it from all the posts (I think).

incidentally, on one of those chad drone threads, someone posted a link showing that chad is the name of a human in some transformer show. (first and last name match I think).

Actually in this thread, it doesn't matter if the drone pics are part of a viral marketing campaign for Transformers, Halo3, or anything else.

What would be good to establish here, is - Is this a real connection to the drone pictures, or is this someone jumping on the hype bandwagon with a hoax, trying to capitalize (for whatever purposes) on the buzz going around the internet about the drone pictures?

Not sure what the payoff would be for a hoaxer though, other than having the hoax spread far and wide.

For me, I'm not convinced this is truly connected with those responsible for the drone pictures.

three cents.

Try harder to do WHAT, Implosion? I doubt there is anything in my post that is not grammatical. If so, please tell me my dastardly mistakes of prose and I shall instantly edit them to your satisfaction.

The point is that if it is viral, it isn't working too well if the poor suckers trying to figure it out can't even agree on what it's being viral about. Maybe they have money to burn on this. After all, the sock puppet Super Bowl advertisement didn't work too well either. So far the only reason the entire idea of a viral marketing campaign is on the table is because no one here has a better answer. Lots of people jumped on the Transformer merry-go-round. Yay! It's Transformers! Now people are jumping on the Halo-3 merry-go-round. Yay! It's Halo-3! What's next? Yay! It's Indiana Jones!

I don't know myself, but it it does turn out to be a viral marketing campaign, it's a poor one.

It's not your grammar that is lacking, it is your comprehension. I wasn't saying these are a part of a viral campaign, nor was I saying they weren't, I was attempting to explain the motivations behind such a marketing strategy. Obviously this fact eluded you in your rush to yet again talk down to the people you are sharing web space with.

bs how can you believe that was even made by anybody related to halo3? a kid could of made that video in his basement for all we know....

You said I shoud "try to do better" and referred to the English language. Isn't that talking down to someone? I think so. How am I supposed to know you were referring to the content of my post if you won't come out and say so in a straightforward manner? Unlike so many people's claims here, I'm not a mind reader.

Believe it or not my original post was not directed at you personally, unlike yours to me. I stand by my post and the idea behind it. If this is viral marketing, it isn't very good. You can't be good at viral marketing if no one knows what you're marketing. That's the point that has eluded you in favor of taking it personally. If you can't handle my statement, how about this one?

Compared to that, why, I'm just a little pussy cat.

imo, this video isn't a "smoking gun" by any means. its a video someone compiled of a bunch of unrelated stills.....period.

this doesn't clear anything up -- rather, it muddies the waters even more.

Anyone ID that picture of the crop circle? I'm curious about it's copyright because if this were to be a marketing attempt they wouldn't use someone's images that are copyrighted unless they've bought them. Same goes for the drone pics, if this were to be official marketing then the drone pictures would have to be owned by the marketing people or at least have a contract for using them.

When you quote something that I have posted, and then proceed to misrepresent and mock the content, yes, I'm going to take it personally.

You seem to be missing the point with regards to viral marketing. It's not supposed to be a floating billboard. If it were, how would it be viral? It's something obscure; something designed to get people talking. If it was a big drone with “TRANSFORMERS!” or “HALO3!” written on the side, we'd all be saying, oh great, another damn advert. It has got to be more insidious than that. That is the only way you will create sustained interest until the motivation behind it becomes apparent.

How can you say a campaign like this wouldn’t work when we have thread after thread right here declaring these drones to be linked to Transformers or Halo3? It can't be both, so you know for sure that at least one of these productions is getting a hell of a lot of free advertising and if it turns out to be neither, then they both have.

Think of a marketing executive leafing through these pages, even if all this speculation is wrong. They are seeing a product, or in this case two, gain a hell of a lot of exposure, just through a few unidentified pictures appearing on a few websites. To generate this kind of buzz through traditional advertising techniques would cost thousands.

Why is it so hard to accept that this may be an attractive proposition to such an entity? They see the prospect of massive returns, through very little outlay.

This is exactly why viral marketing techniques are employed.

Didn't expect such a backlash...

Maybe i won't post such things in the future if people are going to be ungrateful. I can't mention the website where i found the link to this, because i have been told not to by the staff.

Just lock this thread up, it is obviously no use to us.

Fooff, it's definitely appreciated. I think the turn this thread has taken reflects the frustration this whole stupid drone thing has created. Everybody take a deep breath......and exhale.

Schuyler, the very fact we are discussing it makes it a successful viral campaign at this point. Like implosion said, virals NEVER start out with an obvious connection to any one thing, it's about BUZZ and these drones have BUZZ.

You would be shocked at the "money to burn" studios have if you think this is costing anyone any "real money".

This could be pulled off with

Do any of you actually read through the freaking threads?
I posted THREE videos on the first page by a guy who MADE THE DRONE VIDEOS!!! He eludes to the fact that he's made more but I'm not going to waste my time trying to find them - as the whole thing is a hoax! It isn't viral marketing, it isn't a spaceship, it isn't aliens, it isn't even REAL!!!

While you guys go off on one another about stupid viral this and that the freaking truth to the whole story has been languishing under your lazy noses! Read the freaking threads and you can avoid such redundant, pointless posts! JEEEEEEESH!
