It would not do any good for a person tainted with/by sin(you, me, anybody) to die on a cross. It would gain nothing for that person to do this. To have/gain eternal life a person must make a decision about Jesus' death on the cross. Only faith in HISsacrifice, for the remission of sin, can bring eternal life to that person.
