Well, I have a possible solution to our immigrant problem, which isn't really a problem at all..or shouldn't be as we are all immigrants to some degree. Barring of course the Mariel Boat Lift debacle from Cuba in 1980 (81) (large amount of criminals were released purposely by Castro and sent right to us, see movie Scarface)

Here's my idea, and please feel free to voice your opinion as i may be a bit idealistic:

I submit that the only way to solve this maddening issue is to open the gates up and allow any and all immigrants to access our country conditionally, the condition would be that they (if over 18 and healthy) join a branch of the armed forces for a minimum of 2 years with an option for a full term career in the military.

Reason i feel this is viable is that:

A. The alien would immediately prove without question that the reason for wanting citizenship is not solely to milk us for the American dollar

B. The alien would accrue monies to go toward a higher education and/or tech skill-set, thereby securing a steady tax paying income to support their families without un-needed hardship

C. A crash course in English language and American history

D. Earn the respect of US citizens as they illustrate a desire to lay down their lives for freedom

E. There's no way in hell anyone can prevent anyone from seeking liberty and freedom, as no one should deny it. So, stopping the influx of illegal immigration would essentially be and is a waste of time, money and resources.

Any thoughts?

Their status would be improved even more and could probably do as good
a job if not better as the current military planners are now doing.

Hell it's the only option that makes sense to me.

Illegal immigrants should go home and make a sweet country for me to go to. Then we'll just trade.

I have a friend in Apple Valley California who would be out of business if he didn't employ hundreds of illegals.

Same in New Zealand that fruit picking is so seasonal pickers can't recruit unemployed kiwis, so the government has had to amend the laws to allow limited employment of seasonal foreign labour.

In a sense free trade which Wolfowicz has thrust on the world community has allowed companies to base their production offshore in cheap labour countries anyway.

What really sux for me is that refugees come to NZ and immediately are given cheap housing and large grants to put them into business, or through education whilst local citizens are denied the same entitlements. The poorer locals have to watch these people being paid by the taxpayer to take their jobs.

Have you considered how your paper economy is substained by third world countries? China, Mexico, India, Venezuela, etc...
Of one thing you should be glad ,that the base of America were made with what you call illegal immigrants.

So, the person who buys the Nike product is being exploited and the person making the shoe is being exploited even worst.

The whole thing reminds me of the military, exploitation of the contained soul into a materialistic ideological reality that benefits only the corporate elites.

People fear immigrants because, who's gonna be the slaves when there is no more people to exploit from other countries....

After reading these statistics, I could cry. We have an invasion and no one seems to care. Worse, the "McKennedy" Bill (McCain and Kennedy) would give legal status to these law breakers. If we want to control murder, rape and vicious crimes, we may not need Three Strikes, what we need is to find and deport the criminals who are here as illegal aliens. The FBI already has a list of sexual predators here illegally. In May they, along with the Salinas, California police picked up 40 of them. Why not pick up the thousands of sexual predators that the FBI know are here in this county illegally?

Now is the time for crime groups, police and law enforcement groups to stop playing politics, stop endorsing candidates, and to start enforcing the law. Our public officials must act now, the citizens of Simi Valley, Ventura County, of California and of the nation are not safe. Read this FBI/ statistics and weep for the victims of our government not enforcing the laws.

I think it is a great idea. Back in the 70's & 80's I served with many soldiers from the Philippines who were given that exact same deal. While many served only 4 years, the majority made the military a career & returned to their homeland afterward and lived quite well on their retirement.

I'm not sure if you're replying to my post with the FBI Crime states pertaining to illegal aliens, but if you are, try to learn to spell. Your idiocy is showing through.

I think it's a bit rich to call them criminals because they are in the country unlawfully. As several members point out much of USA's economy relies upon exploiting their cheap labour.

If there is a co-incidence between crime and illegal immigrants it is because they are marginalised and cant ask for help in the normal manner. You push any people into the sidelines and they will act anti socially out of need or desperation.

Moving to an immigration policy based upon skills which the immigrant can offer may be a smart move. There also has to be some honesty by the host country that it does rely on such labour for it's factories and horticulture. Once you admit that and allow temporary working visas, then you can move past treating them all as criminals and render the problem much smaller.

I must ask, what part of the word "Illegal" do you people and our government not understand. If they are in fact breaking existing US law by entering the country, then punish them in accordance with established statutes. Or increase penalties to discourage infringement. I think it would be a good kick in the pants for US consumers & businesses to have to rely on their own internal labor pool & resources. Sure there would be an economic downturn. But it would be shortlived in my opinion. Especially if it was minimized by severe welfare cuts to force the freeloaders of the US society to work.

Mmm I don't know. Sounds like it may work, then again it can be seen as a little irresponsible. A lot of people would oppose such a thing, mainly liberals. And it would probably anyway keep a lot of people from wanting to come anyway. [I guess thats the idea. ]

But also really even if you made that happen it wouldn't matter as I mean most of the illegal immigrants who get here do it under the nose of the government and people wanting easy labor probably wouldn't turn them in to be conscripted as it would be better off for them to get well err like I said cheap labor out of them.
