In my native language we have several degatory terms using animal names. Most of them correspond the ones used in the English language, like 'sheep' for one who follows and don't have independent thoughts. But it hardly will get you into a fight. If that's what you want, you call them a 'cod'. Not sure if there's any correspondance in English using that term. Obviously it comes from the cod is easy to lure on any bait.

Others include 'cow' for someone slow to react or understand or 'chicken' for a person with lack of courage.

A degatory you have to be careful with these days is 'swine'. If you use it make sure it's not a Muslim you use it at.

Personally I've never encountered the 'sheeple' term and never used it. Often I fell like calling someone 'ignorant'. But you have to be careful or all together avoid it. Remember the motto of ATS, there are not supposed to be any ignorants on this board.

But it's a matter of judgement.

Ive given the issue much thought, and reread every post many times. Being the proud American that I am its hard for me to back down on a stance.

But In this case I must. I Do not think that disgusting word should be put on the censor list. It always has been and always will be a swear word to me. I tell my son you can change the word but it doesn't change the meaning. So if not that word they will just use another.

There will always be those that feel if you don't agree with them that you are following the crowd, there is nothing that can be done about that. I do ask however that to all who read this think twice when your in a loosing debate.

Loosing sucks there is no doubt about it. Whats worse tho is lowing the intelligences level of all of ATS by resorting to name calling and belittling as a debate tool. So before you hit that enter key walk away from the PC for a few and then come back re-read what you are about to post. Ask your self this question. "Is what I'm saying to them being said in a polite intelligent way? If it was being said to me would it help or hurt my argument?"

If your answers to those questions aren't satisfying to you re-write until it is then push that enter key. When we resort to name calling we become just another tinfoil waring cook site instead of a think tank of independent thinkers. The internet doesn't need another cook site there are far to many as it is.

ugh stupid spelling

How is this statement "tinfoil waring cook" [sic] not name calling?
Did you mean "tinfoil wearing Kook"?

See the irony here? You just did what you were telling others not to do.

Know what that's called?

Chissler, I must disagree with you on this. although “sheeple” has yet to enter the general population, in the conspiracy theorist world it is viewed as a derogatory term. And can be used to insult a whole group of people with an opposing view.

Mxyztplk, while I agree that "sheep" is a word that is overly used, I have noticed that you seem to be a big believer in political correctness. I personally think that is what is wrong with society today. Everyone has to be so careful about what they say, so, many who could bring something constructive don't say anything because they are afraid they may "offend" someone. It's rather ridiculous to me.

I have heard a person call another a "cod fish." A "cod fish," at least to my understanding, is an ugly fish, at least that is what it means in America.

Can't we all just get along, without calling anybody any names?

Um… not really, being PC is a waste of time.

ATS as I understand it has a code of ethics and a standard higher then many other sites of this type. On ATS one is supposed to attack the argument of the poster you disagree with, not the poster themselves. In this context I don’t see how “sheeple” can be appropriate.
Saying something like “only sheeple think Bush had nothing to do with 9/11”, insn’t that a kin to saying “only idiots think bush had nothing to do with 9/11”. If we want to claim that we have a higher standard than other sites don’t you think that we should prove it by keeping up to our own standards and disallow this behavior?
If you really need to let loose there are other sites that don’t seem to care about how people act, you can swear, act out and name call all you want and no one will do anything about it. Here the staff will step in and warn if not ban someone who acts like that.
