Hello! I would like to post some of my all time favorites here, and just say that I love music, and heavy metal, most of all. Music speaks to us in
so many ways.
When I was young, I was introduced to heavy metal. Up until that point I really didn't have any music that really spoke to me, as a boy. I watched
MTV, and listened to most of the popular music at the time, but mainly for the videos. Anyway, it was my discovery of heavy metal, mainly
Glenn Danzig, Metallica, and Kyuss, that fueled my passion for the genre.
My favorite band was Kyuss, and I think they are still legendary masters of metal in general, not just of stoner metal/desert rock. This can be
evidenced by these two songs, vastly different, but both have that groove that you get with stoner:
Kyuss - Capsized
Kyuss - Demon Cleaner
Of course, as I said above, I really got into Glenn Danzig's work. And, the Misfits, and Danzig were bands I really enjoyed. I never got into
Samhain that much, tried...just didn't click with me.
Danzig - Violet Fire
Misfits - In The Doorway
And we come to Metallica. As I look back on it, I realize that the band was really held together by Cliff Burton. It is quite obvious from what
happened to the band after he died. He was the real genius of the band, the driving force, and the one man who held everyone in check, focusing on
creating true metal masterpieces that have stood the test of time as some of the best metal music ever written. Anything from the black album on, I
do not listen to, but the old Metallica, is the best.
Metallica - Anasthesia (Pulling Teeth)
How can you not have your mind blown by the beginning solo, done on a bass guitar? My second video was going to be Call of Ktulu, but I decided
against another instrumental.
Metallica - Creeping Death
I have listened to tons of bands through the years, and while I can't list them all at this point, I'd have to say my favorite band right now is
Agalloch. If you do not know who they are, shame on you. They are an amazing band, with a unique sound all their own...a mix of death, black,
folk, progressive...it defies classification, really.
Agalloch - Limbs
Agalloch - Black Lake Nidstang
These are just some of my favorites, so many more to name...I will leave you with this, though. They influenced Kyuss, and are an amazing band
themselves.
Yawning Man - Stoney Lonesome
I hope you enjoy, and maybe I showed you a band you haven't seen before. Cheers!
