It is amazing the cars people own over the years and where it takes you when you think about them. My list goes:
my 1st was an 89 Mitsubishi Starion ESI-R
then a 82 chevette to drive in the winter so the Starion could be garaged
then I bought a jeep wrangler
then a brand new Sahara wrangler
a civic si to drive instead of the jeep for mileage
then I got my 1st VW when I moved to Germany..71 Super beetle(the 1st year for it)it had 29k (kilometers) Bought it off an old retired german doctor that walked everywhere and seldom drove.
then I moved back to the US with my car minus the wife(it was a good trade off)
bought a 2000 Monte Carlo and a 98 s-10
then traded the monte in on a 02 Grand Prix
then traded the truck for an 02 extreme s-10
now during the time from 2000 up until last year...I owned somwhere between 20-25 different VW's (yea it is a sickness)
got rid of the extreme and got an 04extreme blazer and bagged it
then bought an escort wagon for my sister
bought a 95sunfire for my work car
sold all of the vw's except my 71 that I brought home from germany(women I tell ya)
traded the grand prix for a new bonneville
sold the blazer...that thing ened up being a POS...everything was falling apart on it
Now I am facing a mid-life crisis and looked for months to find my first car...the 89 starion. Well come to find out Mitsubishi only imported something like 159 of these that year...yikes. So I had to settle for the Chrysler Conquest...Same car as the Starion but imported for chrysler.

I found one with only 19k on it and snatched it up...I know no one cares but I was extremely happy....It felt like Christmas to me when I found it. I am sure those of you looking for something in particular knows the feeling when you find it. My fiance would just look at me and shake her head and smile. The beauty of it was that she knew how important it was for me to get this thing. My oldest daughter will get the VW when she is of age and my boy (who is 2) will get the Conquest when he is old enough to respect it.

All cars have a story behind them (or atleast the good ones do)

Well thats my list

I don't have the memory to list all my cars, but i will share one car story with you.
In 1985 I got a yellow 1970 nova 4 door. (not the kind that was cool) It has 95,000 miles on it. For the last three years of hs I drove that thing like a tank. I didn't once change or check the oil. ( I didn't know better) I changed the tires once, and put a muffler back on it with a soup can to hold in. It never broke down, would go in the snow of Maine and always started in the cold.
When I graduated from hs in 88 my brother got it for his last 2 years of school. He at least checked the oil, and changed it once. It then went to my sister, she drove it her four years of hs. If she took care of it like she takes care of her bedroom, it probably never even got new windshield washer fluid. She used to joke that the thing only had 1200 miles on it.
Now it gets better, she sold the car to the industry arts teacher at the local high school when she graduated. (he was fresh out of college)
When I went back for my 18 year reuinion, the teachers high school age son was driving it. The only thing they ever had to do to it was change the wiper moto. lol they joke it only has 140000 miles on it.
now....they don't make em like that anymore

I myself, have not owned a remarkable list of great automobiles like in one of the big threads on this topic...but I have had the great honor of driving many a fine high performance car, on various Road Courses in my time. I read with great enthusiasm about the 1/4 mile times of everyone who posted in that thread and I was way impressed!

I haven't drag raced any muscle cars but I was able to get a time of 10.9 on a Mitsubishi Evo 8, modified of course, on the 1/4 mile...and the same car pretty much blew a lot of high dollar, trailered-in European cars off the track....

I have driven a series of Mitsubishi Evo 8's, modified etc, including the Sparco Evo, the Vivid Racing Evo 8 against high dollar Porsches, Dodge Vipers, highly modified BMW M3's, and the like, and I must say it's a big adrenaline rush to pass a Viper, Porsche etc on the strait-a-way, especially when you are passing cars that are worth twice the amount the car you are driving is worth.

Whew! Some nice cars in this thread. I am 54 years old, and have worked in the automotive field for over 40 years. As you can imagine, I have had a few cars in my time. My first was a 1948 Buick Fastback, straight 8. My uncle Fred took it from me so I didn't "tear it up," his words. His sons still have that car, although it's now in storage. I had a nice 1960 Olds 88, 394 V-8 4bbl, that car would fly. Had a 61 Mercury Monterey convertible. 61 Chevy Impala, 283 Powerglide, 60 Chevy Impala convertible with Continental Kit, 348 Big Block, 4-speed, that was one sweet ride! I had a 62 Pontiac 2+2, 421 4-speed, produced over 400 horsepower, custom paint, it's name was "Runnin Bare." I wrapped it nearly head on into a tree when I was 17, and nearly died. then i really got into Muscle Cars. Had a string of Chevelles, three 67s, a 66, a 69, all with the 396/4spd package, mostly SS cars. Has a nice 67 olds Cutlass, 455 motor, and a beautiful 67 Chevy Impala Convertible, buttercup yellow with black interior and top, torque thrust deep dish mags, headers and twin 3" exhaust, traded for a 55 Mercury Monterey 2-dr hardtop. I built this car up in two weeks, 455 olds power, lowered it 4" and it cruised wonderfully. It got taken out by a beer delivery truck who swerved into my lane. I guess I have had a few hundred cars. Writing this brings back a lot of good memories, this is what I did before getting hurt, and I loved it! Right now I have a 1990 Chevy G20 van, 5.7 350 engine with R4-700 trans. With Mallory Hy Fire and Accel ignition, I am getting 43 highway, 34 city. I am working on a HHO reactor for it, but haven't began building yet.

Good thread!

1. 1986 Dodge Colt - bought from my mother-in-law for
$300. Wouldn't pass smog so I junked it. My wife had a stereo
installed that cost $200, funny huh?

2. 1994 Oldsmobile Achieva - $3000 from the used car lot around
the corner from where I grew up. I drove that thing to Yermo one
weekend just to visit Peggy Sue's 50's Diner. The Place burned down.

3. 1994 Honda Civic - Most reliable Car I've had! Actually it was my
wife's but when I'm the one working and she's staying home....
Anyway, drove that one into the ground, too. Vegas to LA is
usually 4 hours, I made it back in 3 in that thing.

4. 1989 Isuzu Pup - P O S. Drove it for 3 weeks and scrapped it.

5. 1987 GMC Suburban - An effing tank. Damn thing wouldn't start
one day, spent 2 months messing with it before I decided to put
it out to pasture. My wife cried.

6. 1993 Toyota Camry - Cheapest car I ever bought, $200.
Driveshaft pulley split one night, fixed it. Then it too wouldn't
pass smog.

7. 1995 Ford Aspire - Stupidest car yet! I am 6' 4" and I take up
half of the inside! It's been pretty reliable so far, no major repairs
besides having to cut off the rear driverside wheel bearing and
changing the thermostat. Bought this one for $600 and own a BMX
Bike worth $400, go figure. Oh yeah, currently building a dash for the
7" monitor and stereo so I have a big hole in the middle, big enough to
fit my head in.

1) 95 Geo Tracker - my first car in highschool, bought the first car on the lot so I could go see a girl... go figure. Was a good car, blew up my first engine in it and rolled it a couple times

2) 76 Corvette - a gift from my dad when I graduated highschool, still have it even though I don't drive it

3) 98 Eagle Talon TSi - still have this one too, I bought it without a transmission from a guy in a bind, after getting one installed I found out he had many modifications to it and used it to race during my first college run. I ended up going through 3 transmissions myself. Still moves but the gears are "picky" at what RPM range the transmission will accept. Project car, awaiting funds.

4) 91 Mazda MX-6 - crushed

5) 96 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST - waiting to be crushed :bash:

6) 86 Subaru GL - bought it for $200 as a no run while working at a mechanic shop. $50 for timing belts and some labor... ran decent. Dumped about $100 more into it for regular maintenance and it ran like a champ. Not very fast but it gets the best mileage out of any car I have ever driven.

7) 95 Corvette - Got a nice deal on it, couldn't pass it up being in love with Corvettes

8) 07 Subaru WRX - My main drive now, got it a few months ago. My friend has the same year model WRX as the one I bought and after I rode in his I was very impressed at the handling. That coupled with the durability of the GL I was set on finding a WRX. I just hope it lasts like the ol' 86

I'll try and post some pictures later
