Interesting story. It was a topic of a lot of discussion earlier in the year when the cow was found up here in Canada and the immediate and swift
reaction of the US government to ban Canadian Beef.
Generally I think that things up here are okay so it didn't bother me and I don't eat a lot of the stuff anyways.
But the US reaction is not encouraging so far. They blamed us for the east coast power outage only later to admit that the problem began in the US
which most of us knew anyways.
Being a fair person and knowing that we have had it in this country already then I will allow for the change that Canada is still guilty in this case
and let sleeping dogs lie.
But I can tell you guys one thing if they do find it in the US there will be fallout. I know what happened up here. In the end the Canadian people and
industry stiffened their necks and supported the local guys and that is what saved our industry. Maybe in the end it was a good thing as the local
McD's were using Australian and New Zealand beef for example and then switched to 100% local product.
THENEO, I don't know about most people here in the US, but I could give a damn where the cow came from. All the media is so quick to start printing
how canada is to blame, when we don't have enough safety measures in the US to prevent any of this. They shouldn't have been shipping out possibly
infected beef in the first place.
The BSE is in fatty meats not muscle meats (ie. steak is ok)
And cows are slaughtered at 2 years old. The CIQ (cow in question) was older because it was a milk cow. It was considered "downed" which is why they
tested it and found BSE. The meat that made it to the plants was the offspring (yes, it had babies).
Why could the BSE problem NOT be known? Because BSE has an incubation time of four years.
But Zedd, you said we slaughter at two years? Correct. You do the math.
If it involves the U.S. government you can pretty much guaranty there is a cover up going on..you really think that if there was a problem they would
actually say it...when was the last time anything bad happened that the government didnt try to cover up in some way..or atleast place blame on
somebody besides themselves.
this is a serious problem, when the USDA only tests 25,000 cattle yearly out of 3 million slaughtered...we have a problem. i believe this will be a
serious economic problem in the long run. but if you think cattle is bad, you don't even want to know what goes on in the chicken industry.
the whole thing is now where the cow ate the infected food that got it sick ( at least i just woke up and thats what it was last night the us
might hve come up with something better while i was sleeping )
but as for bombing canada... goodlord man shhhhhh i wouldent even put it past that war monger bush .. hell i bet the crazy bastard has thought
about it too..
