OMG thats a kick in the guts!!

I thought you meant that he'd just stopped processing WUs but yes he's totally gone along with all of his units, and no warning at all.

G'morning, pantha. OK, I am glad it was not just me who was surprised. I thought I had really missed something while I was out of town, but I could not find any posts that would explain it.

Hi gang!!

Well, I *too* was a bit bedazzled, dazed and confused to see a whooping "deficit" in the teams score. I guess one should never assume anything as "permanent" and good luck to Publius wherever s/he might have gone - it was nice to have the "dream" while it lasted!!

Never mind, we're *still* crunching units and we've all effectively gained a place!!

I haven't rec'd any type of communication from Publius incidentally, though again that's not important in itself.

Let's go ATS SETI@home and BOINC teams!!

I had a search of posts that Publius has made and there was no indication that he was going anywhere, I have U2U'd him with words to the effect that hope it wasn't anything that we did , but good luck crunching where ever you are. Time will tell if we get any sort of explaination.
As you say Genya , the team is doing really well despite this, and I'm glad to see that you are still doing well spectre even with out your SETI suite

I'm sticking with SETI for the time being, I'll wait until BOINC is a bit more well established and reliable before you lose me from the team.

Hi pantha!!

Good on you!!

Yes, BOINC does seem rather "imprecise" at the moment and, as I've written before, I don't want to "abandon" the program until asked to do so by SETI itself, as I presume they still have a lot of data that can be crunched? (My current WU - on this machine - was Recorded: 23/08/2003 02:05:09 UTC
Position: 19 h 9' 50" RA, +11 37' 48" Dec, 0.583 AR
Nearest constellation: Aquila ).

Thanx for U2U'ing Publius - I can't think of any reason *why* s/he might be "upset" - unless it was "Points for WU" related????

Never mind, we'll just have to rebuild our totals once again!!

Welcome aboard, JRK! Nice score, too. Thanks for the boost. There is I thread I started where folks describe the rigs they have running SETI if you want to tell us what you have set up.

Pantha, I suspect that the guys at work have missed some computers and still have some running with my user info. Good on me!
They are still doing pretty well, over 2k I see.

echelon posted in another thread with a link to his rather impressive collection of computers running BOINC. I'm starting to feel "inadequate"!!

Welcome JRK!!

Very many thanx for joining the ATS SETI@home team - I'm sure evrybody will welcome your input - not just of WU's but in our discussions too James!!

We also have a BOINC team, as you'll probably have realised, as SETI@home gradually moves over to this phase of shared computing. Effectively, there's no difference between us - it's just that some are trialling BOINC whilst others of us are sticking (for now!) with what we know!!

Thanx again - it's always nice to have new members!!

Hey all,

I have swiched over to BOINC about 2 weeks ago, my 'status' on SETI Should still have my units contributed, however I have not crunched any WU's on SETI since converting 'Religions'
. I apologize for not posting in here for awhile, my time has been consumed by TA and ATSNN. I am still very much invovled in the Search for ET and am available for any help with SETI, but Genya pretty much has it covered.

Hi TMT!!

The "new" religion eh? Same as the "old" one really, but with extra debugging code added!!

Thanx for "saying Hi" to us - no worries Trick, good luck with BOINC - trail blaze away and we'll all be "converting" to the new religion too in time!!

As for me having things covered - well, I know that there are lots of people "out there" equally dedicated and much more knowledgable than I am - so I think the ATS SETI@home and BOINC teams are in "safe hands"!!

SETI@PDSEDC should be back to producing 100 or so work units a day. They had stopped sending in any results, so I stopped by the office to say hi and have a look. I was able to demonstrate that things worked much better when all the little wires are plugged into the correct sockets and everything has power running to it.

While moving a table, someone had inadvertantly pulled the power to the switch and disconnected the patch cable uplinking it to the rest of the network. That's why I get paid the big money.

BOINC is a no-go for them at this point. Nobody there wants to take the time to remove the old SETI and install/configure the new software.

Hi Spectre!!

Thanx for the "sitrep" on those work colleagues - it's nice to know that a "loose wire" can bring such devastation!!

As for changing over to BOINC and uninstaling SETI@home: sounds like a job for your good self, IMO
Simply tell them that it will be worth their while, that virtual drinks are hanging on this, and the kudos of being "Top Banana" will come there way!!

Give 'em Hell, Spectre - you *know* you want to!!

Hey guys, I just joined up. SETI is running right now, and I've got the computer to run it all the time no matter what I'm doing, so hopefully I can boost the numbers a bit. Cheers

Hi Dod

Excuse me, do you know that typing with Caps lock is the equivalent of shouting? I *do* have a hearing loss but not a sight deficiency - thank you.

As for joining SETI@home, please have a look at the FAQ's , the Tutorials and the Index

I hope that helps you Dod?
